Title: Google Drive's full system backup and sync tool is finally available
Post by: mozart123 on July 13, 2017, 02:30:13 PM
Google is doing all of us a solid and giving everyone the chance to use its free cloud storage to backup an entire computer's system files.

The new Backup and Sync feature will let you use Drive to automatically store files that you've already saved on your computer's internal hard drive or other devices like memory cards in the same format.

So, instead of having to create an entirely new network of folders to keep your pic, docs, and more, the tool will simply recreate your desktop folder ecosystem directly in Drive. Great news for anyone that wants to backup a huge swath of folders.

it's like handing over all your files - personal and very important files - to the public.

If I am technically correct, a ransomware needs an operating system to do its thing.
Cloud storage is just a storage. If google's architecture has an operating system operating the cloud storage, then it's google's responsibility to protect that.
If you have an external storage drive that hit by a ransomware, it's because the PC you connected that storage device with was processed by that computer with a ransomware.

If you are thinking backing up your whole operating system to the cloud, you are still putting it in storage. But it cannot be operated. So technically you are safe through the cloud against ransomware

Now if your statement is about  a ransomware was stored on the cloud, downloaded by anyone and got affected, then it's google's responsibility to scan its cloud storage with an antivirus.
So any virus uploaded there will be blocked.

I have not tried it first hand, but I think if you try to upload a virus to dropbox, it will get blocked. Im just not sure. But knowing dropbox, they should block viruses.
It would be same to all storage services.

Kung hindi, dapat hindi na buhay ung company na un

In my own observation din. (non IT guy here) Gmail and Google drive doesn't allow any .exe file to be sent or transferred using their platform. I recently noticed it when my friend try to give me a copy of ableton live software via email. He said that gmail doesn't allow him to attached it. Maybe google have already handled this issue a long time ago.
