Rage = for most of the first album and the second album, tom morello used EMG 81s for his main crunch tone with a stock telecaster for some songs. He still uses his mainstay JCM 800 Marshall head through a Peavey cab.
Pantera = Bill Lawrence pickups on the bridge position of his Washburn signature guitars. For a long time, Dime used a solid state Randall RG100 head until he switched to Warheads then Krank later on during the post-Pantera years.
Slayer = Kerry King uses EMG 81's in the bridge position of his signature BC Riches through a variety of Marshall amps.
Zakk Wylde = EMG 81 in the bridge and 85 in the neck.
I can speak for the tone of the 81, 85, SD Custom, '58, and the DiMarzio Tone Zones since I use them. The tone cuts well for the custom, the tone zone and the 81 without too much noise which is good since I get turn my volume and gain on my amps pretty high. The 85 and SD 58's soound warm and good for jazzy runs and warmer soounding guitar leads without the tone turning muddy. Hope this helps.
