I've decided to sell my 1965 Gibson LGO along with 2 other Gibson vintage acoustics. Here's the link to my post:  http://talk.philmusic.com/board/index.php/topic,115027.0.html

I wouldn't expect it to sound like what I'm used to... my acoustic is a Guild Jumbo (F50R) strung with mediums.  Even a lot of dreadnaughts sound anemic by comparison; hard strumming is known to register on the Richter scale.  Still, I'm kind of half in the market for a smaller bodied guitar that I could keep in open G or DADGAD to have another option around the house, and use for traveling and at campfire jams where people you don't know want to try your guitar (the Guild is pristine and I'm possessive).

Not in any rush, let me know when she's ready for a look... I live in Sagada and don't get to Manila often, but things sometimes work out.

Maxi, I'm not saying I'd pay 50, I wouldn't.  Some people are really into old stuff, though, and the Gibson brand has some clout.  I don't figure it would hurt him to run that number up the flagpole and see if anyone salutes; if nobody does, he can always drop the price down.

50 is not a half bad deal for an OM-03 in good condition, is that guitar for sale now?

Of course what I really want is a 12-string... GAS is a terrible thing!

I'm planning to use the sale proceeds to buy a high end Martin, probably the HD-28 or HD-28V.

Very nice. I just tried the HD-28V in Tom Lee Music in HK last week and loved it.

If you know anyone who may be interested in my Gibsons, let me know. I've already sold the 1981 Gibson Heritage, but my 1984 Gibson J-25 and 1965 Gibson LGO are still available.  Thanks

A Martin HD35 worth 1900 CAD just passed  my radar in Craigslist. Darn! I could have gotten it cos I had been looking for a nice Martin Dread.

Anyway, What are your thoughts about this Martin Custom 00018 with 12 frets? Selling for 2400 CADd but  I have no single idea if this is a good deal or what.No single review or price quote in Google. I am afraid to gamble. The only fact I know is that it is a CUSTOM with all great woods and  attention to details.I saw this Flickr Photos ( but not the exact guitar) of a Martin CUSTOM 00018.
Hope to hear some thoughts from those who are familiar with Martin Custom

hahaahha! I knew it! ikaw ang unang babanat. Thanks padre.
The owner told me the same thing. I actually played it when I was testing the Collings but didnt really pay attention cos I was looking for the louder dread in May. But when the OM attack hit me, I became interested with his mahogany Custom 000. Price is quite steep though. Is it worth it? Or just get a OM28V or even 00018..
Specs..

may tumatapat na sa acoustic GAS mo Doc.  :-D

@borgy,

have you performed an a/b between the OM28v and OOO18?  i think that's the only way to decide which is better.  :-)

Naku. Doc farseer is THE ULTIMATE ACOUSTIC GAS CHAMPION! Wala pa ako sa kalingkingan nyan. Santa Cruz pa lang nya uwian na. hehehe

Max,

I tried the regular 00018 vs 0m28v and clapton. Bright yung 00018 and warm yung mga 28. I havent tried putting the Custom 00018 against the om28v. I know for a fact that the custom 00018 is a notch louder than the OMs or regular 00018.

Thanks

believe me..i know about his acoustic gear.  :-D

i think he has been laying low on his purchases for some reason.  maybe because he's focusing on the vintage stuff.  you however, are picking up the acoustic GAS.  :-D

i was able to try out the Martins in Tom Lee HK.  yes the OM28v is definitely warm and not to bright.  however, i tried this smaller Martin (until now i'm figuring out what the model is) that blew me away.  i'm not sure if it was Marquis or something but it's decal wasn't like the ordinary CF Martin.  the only thing i remember was it was more expensive than the OM28v.  i just played away with that guitar, not even thinking what model it is exactly.  :-D

I tried a bunch of em in Singapore last year and I think the small one (parlor size?) was the best of the lot. Dont know the model either.

ikaw na talaga ang papalit kay Doc.  outgoing acoustic GAS God siya.  ikaw ang incoming.  :-D

congrats on the great purchase!  tapos na ang OM search mo.  my search will begin some time next year.

a friend actually recommended me some luthiers who sell their stuff at reasonable prices.  how does this compare with OM28v in terms of price?  malayo ba?

Thanks man. Doc Dave pa rin for President. hahhaha
Anyway, I purchased the guitar for 1400 CAD. Owner ordered one from Mcneill and paid 3000 US in 2006. LUcky me, again.

Sound is amazing man. Ang layo sa Clapton and OM21 special in my opinion. I visited Tom Lee and Long and Macquade about 5 times just testing these two Martins, with some Larrivees on the side. Buraot na nga ako eh kung tutuusin cos di naman ako bumibili. I just wanted to be sure about spending more than 2 grand for my OM.
You could see the attention to details and premium wood. The Sitka Spruce has nice silking all the way to the lower bout. I was ready to buy the Martin Custom 00018  for 2500 CAD but when I bumped into this guitar 5 hours ago in Craigslist, there's something that really caught my inner instinct . ASking price was 1500. Tried it. Darn! Sound is really nice. Best OM i heard was a Collings OM3 (6000 US)   This one comes very close. Mura pa.

with regards to OMv, that's a pricey guitar but very nice sounding though.
Nakalimutan ko lang yung brand na MARTIN  when I was playing the Mcneill.  :-D

Good luck sayo. Malay mo makadale ka ng Santa Cruz OM . Trade tayo. hahhahaha

question:  what is Craiglist?  pardon my ignorance.  :-D

very lucky you!  but that luthier has reasonable prices...$3,000 for handcrafted with master grade sitka spruce?  great deal even with the brand new price.  tinawaran mo pa yung 1,500CAD ah.  :-D

based on the pics, looks like the guitar is a little bigger than the regular OM.  the soundboard is bigger.  or is it due to the pictures?  if this is so, then it would sound boomier than the regular OM plus better volume.

just be careful with the electronics.  they should still be in tip-top condition.

i'm targetting an acoustic w/o electronics, and i will just get something simple...maybe an AER AK15+.

how did the Larrivees sound?  i'm actually considering a Larrivee OM first before upgrading to a Martin.  or should i go straight to the Martin anyway?
