Car Audio Players
« on: August 27, 2010, 03:22:09 PM »

mga bro, I need feedback sana before I buy a new car CD player, I'm looking at several brands (Pioneer, Kenwood and JVC) that has a front USB interface, nalilito lang ako kasi iba iba sinasabi sa akin, mayroon nagsabi na hanggang 4 gig flash drive lang kaya basahin, yun isa naman sabi hanggang 16gig na flash drive no problem, while all of them advertises it will play your Ipod without any hitch, will it read yun mga large external drives? I was wondering about that part kasi since Ipod's are 120 gig max will it read similar sized external drives? yun isa seller nagsabi sakin kaya daw basahin large external drives though may tendency mag hang while another seller says no problem with large drives daw ... anyway, would love to hear real world experiences with car CD receivers na meron front USB interface (all models currently sold are USB 2.0)

here's what i found out so far;

4gig thumb drives ang ideal size for HU's with USB interface, it will still read 8-16 gig thumb drives but you'll probably experience lag in read times

it is primarily designed for ipod's and other mp3 players, no problem accessing those, even the large capacity players

it is not designed to supply power to large capacity external drives, but there is a work-around, just use a lighter adaptor to separately power your external drive and it will read 250 gig external drives

finally got to test one personally, works well with ipods so mukhang the best option is to buy an ipod classic, i'll get one this weekend, leaning towards kenwood  :-D

I have a JVC version of this.

Weird kasi it deletes all files except audio files in your USB. Na-test ko to mga (5) times, and still getting the same results. I'm not sure if it's their way of protecting it from viruses.

ang nabili ko sony ... for a few extra hundred it reads more formats kesa sa ibang brand (within the price range) na mp3-wma lang...i think dapat yun thumb drives walang ibang laman except music files, bumili ako 8gig na thumb drive, i stripped the contents down, pati picture files na attached sa albums inalis ko  :-D works like a charm, wala ako na encounter any problems like error readings, deleted files etc  :-D fast read times, extremely happy with my purchase and marami options sa sound customization, i was also planning on replacing my speakers, nagulat ako lumakas at mas okay sound ngayon labas sa kotse, mas malakas ata yun output ng head unit compared to my previous car audio, i didn't have to replace my speakers anymore

i also connected ipods and other music players via usb and aux inputs, okay yun response din, wala akong comparison sa ibang brands pero yun sony can flip thru the music folders at a fast rate, 1 or 2 seconds lang to go to another folder or search for music sa thumb drives or ipods

I posted a somewhat similar thread here - http://talk.philmusic.com/board/index.php/topic,206959.0.html
The photo you posted has an auxiliary in. Which is very useful.
IMO, it's better that USB type car stereos.
My friend recommended (forgot the exact brand) a head unit from 'banawe, QC' for only 2,600 installation included. Might get that in a few weeks.

difference lang naman ng kilalang brand and the lesser known ones are yun warranty (i just feel secure na may warranty in case something goes haywire, hehehe) , inikot ko yun banawe, yun kenwood model pictured goes for 4.5k and yun pioneer na same feature set goes for 4.3k ... based on experience, ang gastusan mo lang naman yun rear speakers, then the ones in front or any additional speakers pwede na yun nasa mid-price range, basta bring along any copy of your favorite music to test sa mga speakers
