what can you say about urbandub now??? gusto ko mga kanta nila ngaun sa bagong album.. although magaganda rin ung dati pero konti lang unlike ngaun.... ganda pa ni lalay... chobby nga lang..

bale pang 3rd na yun drummer nila ngayon, yung first left pagkatapos nung unang album na BIRTH, then 2nd was JERROS DOLINO (now pounding skins for SHIELA and THE INSECTS) played on INFLUENCE album then left before the recording of the third album EMBRACE, then yung pinakabago si JOHN MENDOZA (former drummer ng GLITCH <- prang "Deftones" sounding na banda from cebu na kasabayan lumabas ng HOUNDZ at SLAPSHOCK dati remember em'?)

Udub 4th - UPDATE!
Hello, Dubistas! :)
We were able to record 2 songs the other night. We recorded it raw for pre-production purposes, so that we can present something in advance to our label.
The label needs to hear the first 4 songs we made to be able to decide the 1st single on our upcoming 4th album. :)
It took us more or less 8 hours to record the 2 songs. We started around 8:30pm and ended at 4:30am. Tiring, but that is what we do, hehe. :)
I will be updating as often as I can. Thank you so much for the support.

solidong banda. mas gusto ko actually yung line up nila ngayon. medyo evolve yung musicality nila. and isa pa sa mga gusto sa kanila is yung originality. ibang iba talaga. parang sinusubukan nila lahat ng bagay. ayos tong bandang to! ayos! nakausap ko na one time yung drummer nila. sobrang bait. chaka merong nagbanggit ng GLITCH. ayos yun. i used to have a cd of glitch before. ok sya. meron akong favorite na kanta dun. yung "FLOWER". ok un. tapos nagkaron rin sila ng vid e. nakalimutan ko lang kung anu. napanood ko yun before sa UNtV. mga bagong vids nun.

well, nung una ko tong nakita sa IN the RAW dati sa NU channel. putsa, nabagsikan ako kagad sa bagsakan nila eh. :-D malupet tong u-dub... pero ang naapreciate ko nalang sa kanila ay yung first and second album nila... the rest, hindi na :-) sa album nila na BIRTH, may ibang tracks dun na may mapapansin kang sabit eh.. (sa palo ng drums)
pero overall, magaling talaga tong bandang to...

first off, i wanna thank all you guys for the support you've been giving us through all these years we've been active in the music scene! it's been awhile since we last played a gig. most of you know the reason for that, it's because we're all in cebu right now...being busy writing new material for our new album. it's great that we're back home in cebu cuz we're able to spend some quality time with our families during our hiatus. it's been awhile that we've been in our home town for this long. for us it's a much needed breather.
i know you guys have noticed as well that i personally haven't been active in posting stuff online in a very looooong time. i'm really very sorry. i've been going through alot in my personal life and i'm usually very introverted when i get into my "writing mode". kunwari "artist" daw! hehehe! but the good thing is my writing is what i use for my release. most of my thoughts you'll all probably hear on the new songs we're making. this album is probabaly the most personal yet that i have written lyrics wise. semi auto-biographical in a sense. hehe! i just hope that alot of you will still be able to relate.
i bet alot of you are wondering what the new album will sound like. well in my opinion, lyrically it's gonna be definitely 100% ME, i've been writing lyrics that are definitely DIRECTLY related to what i've been going through since the "Embrace" album. NO metaphors, NO artsy fartsy [gooey brown stuff], just straight-up lyrics about experiences i've been going through. lyrically, it's the most honest i've ever written. Musically, the band as a whole have been jiving pretty well in the studio, in terms of ideas and direction. it's gonna be more melodic and groove based. not as "pop" as "Influence" and not as heavy and moody as "Embrace"....maybe we can say we are trying to make the new album sound like a good mix of both "influence" & "embrace".
we're working really hard to come out with an album that will be memorable to all you guys. ofcourse we don't wanna let you down. we're trying really hard to come out with a very honest and straight forward album. a more mature album, an album not dictated by the current trend in rock music. an album distinctly URBANDUB. an album that the band and the dubistas will surely be proud of.
just for fun and for the dubistas only...here's a current tracklist of the songs we've been working on for the new album. here's the working titles of the songs we've been working on for the new UDUB album.(song names are subject to change 'till the offcial release of the album):

hopefully by august we can start recording already and we hope for an october release. a good two years after "Embrace"! i really wanna thank all the dubistas that have stuck by us and supported us since the beginning! we hope that once the album comes out you guys will show the same support you never failed to give.

charity event kac sha, so un entrance is a donation of 1 canned good, or 50 pesos...dala nalang kayo ng 1 canned good kac masmura :p
program starts at around 6, pero marami bands...i think urbandub is playing around 11, d lang ako mashado sure sa program details....
marami astig na indie bands, kaya pnta nalang kayo maaga :)

We've been recording for 3 weeks now and we're scheduled to record 3 songs this week. For this album, we're doing it in TRACKS Studio. It's our first time to record in a different studio plus it's in analogue so we're very excited on how this album would turn out. We're also honored to work with Sir Angee Rozul, who has been known to record a lot of OPM albums. It's really great working with a professional... everything's under control.
We also met up with our label last week to discuss about the album cover, what's gonna be the 1st single, what's the concept of the video, etc. The title of our 1st single is "GUILLOTINE" and it might be released on radio any day this week. Once it's out, we will also be uploading it here in our page for Dubistas outside the country. We already have come up with an album title; we call this one "UNDER SOUTHERN LIGHTS".
We're so sorry if it takes us too long to approve new friends, comments, answer mails and sometimes, even forget to update our gig skeds. We're really in a very tight schedule especially this month. The band's regular cycle has been record on weekdays, play on weekends, and lately, all our vacant time has been devoted to sessions, whether at home or in a studio just to finish arranging and finalizing the last songs to record which is due next week.
We're very stressed out at this point and the band's main goal right now is to finish this album. Hope I was able to explain everything clearly.
Thank you so much for being patient. Hope you'd still continue supporting URBANDUB.

hello to all the dubistas! the album is finished, the video for guillotine is about to be released, the single is already out on radio. we thank each and everyone of you for voting for the song and making it number one on nu107's stairway to seven. i hope you continue to vote for it and keep it on the charts. hopefully when the video is out you guys will like it and vote for it just the same. let's help make the "GUILLOTINE" video number one on all the music channels!
it's been a great two years leading up to the new album "under southern lights". all the touring we've done to promote the embrace album, seeing all of you supporting us all the way by being at the gigs, singing our songs, and buying the original copy of our albums! we are so blessed to have friends like you guys. you all make our music happen and a very important part of making the band what we are today. we wouldn't have even thought of coming out with a new album if we thought we didn't have your support. but because of you guys and the amount of love you've shown us gave us the drive to make "under southern lights" a better album. we worked really hard on this one. we only had a month to record the whole thing. but we were blessed enough to be given a great team to help us finish this album. we give all the thanks to sir angee rozul of tracks studio for helping us with recording, our awesome A&R russell from EMI, alex lim & the whole lighter management team and our video director pancho esguerra (he also directed the "frailty" video) for helping us put together a solid release. and ofcourse the dubistas...we always had you guys in mind while we were couped up in the studio, writing and recording the songs.
we just hope you guys will enjoy this album as much as we loved making it. hopefully it will bring us all together again. we hope you guys can relate to the music and the words and it can inspire you and move you as much as all of you have inspired us. we're very excited to take this album on the road. we've spent our last few days of vacation here in cebu to recharge and practice. we are really looking forward to give you guys great shows once we start touring again.
we wanna thank all the dubistas from any part of the philippines for making our little band from cebu what we are today. for putting our band and our music scene here in cebu on the map of pinoy music. with this new album we hope to not dissapoint and hopefully bring not just the sound of the south but pinoy music in general into new levels. pinoy music has always been great. lets just keep supporting all our musicians that keep pushing the envelope in making pinoy made music better and better. save pinoy music. buy the original albums. daghang salamat. see you all on the road.

Wow. Lucky for you guys that have been enjoying the album throughout last weekend. Hope someone can post what they think about the new songs in greater detail.
I've also ordered two copies of the new one, but I'll have to wait until it ships (maybe about a couple of weeks more)...I'm sure the wait's well worth it though.

Check the Phil Daily Inquirer's online site. They've got a blog called Soundtrip that has a 10-minute video interview of the band. They talk about their creative process and thoughts on the new record as well as their experience playing their first overseas gig at Bay Beats not too long ago.
The big reveal in this interview is that it's looking like there's going to be a documentary DVD coming out when it's ready. The doc includes material following the band on their live shows.

Im a big urbandub up to this date pero i was expecting sana this new album yung lyrical content ng mga songs na sana medyo magdeviate na sila sa mga love theme songs gaya nung last album, kasi medyo astig yung tunog pero yung lyrics medyo kalungkot, considering yung tunog nila ngayon medyo british indie rock like bloc party and interpol

astig urbandub..lalo n si janjan..astig idol ko talaga yan at saka ang bait-bait...kaso may problema ata si gabby sa voice nya ngaun...they have to cancel their gigs bcoz gabby had developed some kind of nodules on his throat that gave him diffculty on singing..kelangan daw nya muna mgaparehab to treat that..sad...hope he can recover soon and their band be back on track..sayang nagccmula pa naman nla ipromote ung new album nila. :-(

definitely best album ng urbandub ang under southern lights... imo they're one of the best bands here in the local scene... as far as lyrics and song writing goes they're one of the few na sobrang galing... everytime i see them live i still get goosebumps and after the gig i'm usually speechless...

gabby trains brazilian jiu-jitsu regularly sa gym namin (deftac/gracie barra parc house bldng., edsa) and naikwento niya sa akin na nanakawan pala yung bahay na tinutuluyan niya dito sa manila. kasama sa mga nanakaw is yung epiphone guitar niya. it happened daw while nasa cebu siya while recording their latest album. he's a real nice guy, humble and easy to approach.
siguro nga their latest album is about gabby's life. "guillotine" is a submission technique in brazilian jiu-jitsu, wich happens to be one of his passions now. :-D

Mejo konti na lang din po yung embrace. kasi andami ko ng napuntahan na malls wala lagi eh. pero yung 3 albums meron palagi. tumingin na ko sa trinoma, glorietta, sm makati, festival mall, atc, sm manila at sm san lazaro. lahat ng record bars dun sinuyod ko na. sabi nung mga natanungan ko dun sa record bars, out of stock na daw. tagal na din daw nila umoorder pero wala pa din dumating.
pero, pero, pero!!! di pa rin ako sumuko mga kapatid. naghanap pa din ako kanina. at may nakita ako sa wakas sa may sm southmall!!! woohoo!!! success!!! abot tenga ngiti ko ng mahawkan ko yung cd tapos di ko na siya binitawan. at binili ko na pati yung ibang albums sa sobrang tuwa ko. grabe parang naikot ko na buong ncr sa paghahanap neto kaya ang saya talaga!

woohoo!!! saya kanina sa eastwood! napasign ko pa yung embrace cd na hard to find! buti mejo maaga kami nakarating kaya nameet pa namin sila backstage. after kasi nila tumugtog ang hirap na malapitan kasi andami na tao. may tshirt din dapat na ibebenta kaya lang parang nagkaproblema kaya next month pa malalabas. sayang ganda pa naman sana ng shirt. lupet talaga nila! ang cute ni lalay! :-D

Compared sa Influence, Embrace at USL na halos LAHAT ng songs madaling pakinggan at magustuhan.
Parang mejo minadali ata nila tong album na to. Kadalasan na sakit ng mga signed bands kasi me timetable na parati. Siguro pinipilit nilang magiba ng konte ung tugtugan. Tsaka mejo nakakasawa din ng onte ung boses ni Gab.

Urbandub has their own sound. One na marinig mo na napakaraming mods yung sound matic na kanila agad yun. And yet I remember the first I heard their song back in 2005 or 2006 when I was still abu dhabi. I heard one of their song "Endless A Silent Whisper" I thought it was another foreign band but what I'm expecting was completely wrong hahaha! Pero pinakadabest parin saken ang The Fight is Over" lalo na yung bagong version nila nun.

It was about six years ago (grade 6) when I first heard their song "first of summer" and I could say that I don't like it. Maybe because I was too young at that time and my ears doesn't appreciate their music when I first heard them. But as time goes by, I have learned to appreciate their music and in fact this band played a big role in my music interest. Gab and John D. are two of my music influences. I admire them by how they use their effects and the way they write songs. Idol ko po sila. :) Among all the OPM bands, urbandub is my favorite. :)

Yeah heared that kuya john dinopol used a 7 string guitar for some of their songs I think.

:) meron pala nitong thread na to...I'm a fan since 1st album ,"birth" ..
isa sa nagustugan ko sa kanila, napaka plakado maglive ,noong meron pang ROCK RADIO CAFE bar sa Alabang Town Center, di ko pinalalagpas ang gig nila, mura kasi entrance noon..100Php lang. may red horse na .i think 2003 yata yun sila active dito sa manila ..yung una at ikalawa kong cd nila e pirmado nila hehehe...astig dyan si sir john dinopol..naalala ko sa gasoline alley sa robinson dati nakasemento pa yung isang kamay nya kasi dati nabaril, pinangsalag nya kamay nya , tapos pinilit pa din tumugtog kahit 3 songs lang..hehe ..astig..sessionista nila dati yung gitarista ng faspitch...apir! :-D

Malupet ang Urbandub. I mean from a band who came from the province, with almost no backup, nagrecord sa hindi naman sophisticated na studio pero nag come up ng malupet na album with really intricate production, great songs and a whole lot of guts. Props to Urbandub!

ang nabalitaan ko they are working on a new album sa tower of doom ata nag rerecord. So bago yun eto muna yung pasasalamat nila na album! sana pinamigay na lang na libre para talaga "Thank You" album :lol:

but accdg to Mr. Gabby Alipe, he and John Dinopol will continue their music career, maybe solo act or joining other bands like Mr. John Dinopol will join Fastpitch Band from Cebu also.
Mr. Gabby Alipe will pursue his music career
Lalay Lim will focus her family esp. her baby
Janjan not sure if he will pursue or not or will join also other bands
correct me if I'm wrong for this post coz I just watched recently an interview from Mr. Basti Artadi by Radio Republic

May 9 was the last gig with all four members, Gabby, John, Lalay and Janjan. Janjan's last gig was during Summer Sunscream in Cebu. Lalay will now focus on family specially after having a baby. Janjan will be leaving for Australia together with his wife next month and they might settle there for good.
Last night's gig with Pupil they already have Macoy Manuel of Sin at the drums. Russell Manaloto of Faspitch still covers for bass duties. They will still have gigs with this lineup until the end of 2015.
We still have months to enjoy Urbandub's music live. Although I do miss Lalay's backup vocals and her stance at the bass specially during the intro of Gravity and First of Summer. Macoy did a great job last night but there's still something about Janjan's style that I'll surely miss.
2016 will be a very different year for the music scene without Urbandub and also Kamikazee. Let's just enjoy and watch them at their shows while they are still here.

Kamusta na kaya ang Urbandub.
I got hooked with Urbandub when they just released their 2nd Album "Influence".
I never though Pinoy sila dahil sa iba ang tugtog nila, very different among the mainstream bands at that time. Urbandub was a different taste for me. I got their Influence album, put in my MiniDiscs, (then i looked for a friend who has the Birth Album). Everytime i go to UST from Pque, papalit palit lang ung 2 Album sa Minidiscs ko, until the 3rd Album came and also my iPad nano.
Ohh.. how time flies, its already been a decade.

I Got their album from BIRTH to ESOTERIC even if its illegally downloaded. :-D :-D :-D :-D it chills me every time i realize that the band will stop creating good music.
