LF: Bands for BBQ Boy, Ortigas on Thursdays for steady-steady gigs
« on: September 02, 2008, 03:56:27 PM »
We're trying to get our music exposed to more than the bar crowd (which is essentially, tayo tayo ring mga musikero).  We want to target the early evening dinner-steady-inuman crowd who are incidental listeners (didn't go to the place mainly to see a band).

So far, we're getting positive response from incidental listeners to our origs this past August. :)

If you think your band wants to be in the same direction, let us know. We're looking for a few bands to play at BBQ Boy beside Ortigas Home Depot on Thursdays this September. Set up is:

1) No more than 3 bands (kasama kami). 1 hour set each

2) Gig starts early, mga 8pm. Night ends early, before 12.

3) Dinner crowd and steady inuman crowd ang target, so low-volume lang tayo. Covers are OK to get the people to interested enough to listen to your origs.

4) No TF... yet. The logic is if people come because of the bands that play during that night, then maybe we can ask for TF. Right now, Thursday nights are nilalangaw.

Our band's included na, so, we're just looking for 1-2 bands to share the night. PM me or text me via 0920-922-2675.

Thanks,
Inigo

Kamusta naman ang band equipment and PA ?

They only have drums, bass amp, and PA.

Drum kit is a new-ish PDP entry- to mid- level kit (forgot the series). Medyo bago pa. Stands (two) are cymbal friendly. Drum pedal is a bit loose, but usable (improvised repair). Cymbals are a Meinl Headliner set (14 hats, 16 crash, 20 ride), good and useable condition.

Bass amp... malakas and clear. Forgot kung anong brand. Looks like some Raon brand.

PA is loud and clear. They have 4 mikes (I think) and corresponding stands.

Guitar amp... none. You can bring your own or use mine (I bring a 60-watter every time). Kahit practice amp will do, since we're low volume (i.e., pwede mag-usap nang hindi sigawan). You can also plug in direct (you need to bring your own direct box).

Yun lang ang drawback sa ganyang venue, di ka pwede tumodo sa performance... Hehehe... Most likely dapat ambient, alternative or any music na hindi "maingay" sa mga professionals [I've eaten there and most of the customers are professionals]

Ganun na nga, hehe. Masusukat ang drumming skills mo dito... kailangan kasi mahina (I still use my big rock size sticks... ang hirap!). Or use a light stick, a brush, rods, or pencils, or your hands, hehehe.

Sobrang unpredictable ng audience. All ages. Tapos, usually, 1 or 2 tables lang ang occupied. Fortunately, wala pa namang umaalis in the middle of our set. Buti na lang marunong mag handle ng audience yung front guy namin.

+++

Salamat pala sa mga nagpa-line up. So far eto tayo this month:

Sept 11 - The Haneps, Imprenta (one more slot open)
Sept 18 - The Haneps, Meja, 5ft Adjustment
Sept 25 - The Haneps, Meja, (one more slot open)
(Edit: the skeds above)

Steady nights. Masarap ang BBQ. Mura ang beer. Maayos ang paligid. Since steady lang at hindi maingay, pwede magdala ng date :)

Yup, malapit-lapit. Mga 10 mins walk. Walk to Exchange Rd, then turn right towards Tektite. Then walk towards the flyover to Meralco Ave, then turn left. Go under the flyover to Julia Vargas, and cross the street to Home Depot. BBQ Boy should be right beside Home Depot, and under the billboard. You'll see Reyes BBQ first... BBQ Boy is right behind that.

When driving from Pearl Drive, towards Tektite, turn right at Exchange Rd, then sa dulo, turn right sa Meralco Ave. Find a u-turn slot, then take it. Then go straight, go under the flyover, then right to Julia Vargas. Take the first u-turn slot, and down the road, you'll find Home Depot to your right. BBQ Boy should be at its far end, near Reyes BBQ, and under the billboard.

up!

Pstuy, bawal yan :D

Anyways, update sa sked natin for September... this Thurs, may open na isa, so if there's a band out there na interested, let me know.

Sept 11 - The Haneps, Imprenta (one more slot open)
Sept 18 - The Haneps, Meja, 5ft Adjustment
Sept 25 - The Haneps, Meja, (one more slot open)

If you're an acoustic act or a cover band, you can use this as an audition slot, because BBQ Boy regularly has a cover band for some days na matao. Let me know, so we can let the owner know that you're auditioning, so that he can be there.
