Not all Gibsons sound good. Try and buy the one that speaks to you.

And I'll keep that in mind when I start testing the guitars Bro. Thanks man.

I'm at this point in my guitar life that I must say,

Man, I gotta have a Gibson. I want to know and feel what the fuzz is all about.

I'm done with other brands,

I just hope it's going to be worth it having/owning one.

I believe in Jimmy Page's words that, Only a Gibson is good enough.

And I'm about to find out if he's telling the truth.

hmmm... I think its the subconcious and years of marketing strategy, legendary brand label,  and every young boys dream image and favorite artists thats speaking to you..

tama si Gainsucker...

find a good deal, and try it out and inspect it... there are far better and more superior guitars out there for same or less amount of money..

but I agree, its good to have one at least once in your life to get the excitement..especially opening the case for the first time and having a whif of that pleasant vanilla smell..(which isnt nitro, but the glue of the case lining)

one thing good about gibbys is they really retain their value overtime...and are highly desireable pieces..

they really look good x10 during the honeymoon period..hehe

goodluck!

not all gibson guitars retain their value. the ones that retain their value are the vintage one...mostly the 50s-60s era, the ones used by famous musicians and customs and limited runs.
regular production gibsons which are produced by the thousands will not.
i read someone posted here that after buying a gibson from the store, it will depreciate by 20%. like a car. i agree on that.

I agree.. I mean, on the second hand market... (which is the best place to buy a gibby) on the second hand market you could buy a used one and if you dont bond with it sell it for the same price or if its a highly desirable one with a bit of a profit..
definitely if you buy new..the moment you step out of the store...that 100k gibby will be 80k or less..

so buy a used gibby for 50-80k you can keep that value range if you decide to sell it.. to many folks, guitars with "Gibson" mark on the headstock is still highly prized and desirable..and would still get a good deal buying used.

@Magus tambay ka sa My Les paul forums..to read abouts stories about your dream guitar..hahaha and how they bash even Gibsons CEO and his decisions...how every new year model release is junk.... and the countless  GIBSONS QUALITY CONTROL IS CRAP threads, but read at your own risk..
I guess its best to just buy a gibby and get it over with and play the hell out of it...

i bought a Gibson just to get it over with :)

kahit na masaya na ako dati sa mga Yamaha SG ko, laging nasa likod ng isip ko kasi yung bumubulong ng : "wala ka pang Gibson". tapos yung kabanda ko pa puro Gibson. so ayun, started with a '98 Gibson sg special...then a 2011 Gibson sg standard silverburst...and finally a 1982 flying V.

no need to try, just buy the pretty one!

@MAgus

i have seen 2 gibby trads with floating tailpiece, meaning the studs are not flushed down to the wood. there is a 4mm gap between the studs and the body. you can only see this if you remove the part that holds the studs. there is a noticeable effect on sound. im not sure if all trads are built like this.

Ok, dapat Galingan ngan talaga sa pagpili.

@ Gandy, tama ka ser, curiosity ma bakit andaming nagsasabi na ok ang gibson, at the same time, Iba kasi ung feeling and ung prestige of owning something your Guitar hero uses. Very fulfilling.

So 2nd hand ba talaga ang best option? Tapos pa refret n lng?

Gibson user here! Got a '92 Gibson SG Standard with battle scars enough to show its age though it still sings sweet!

By the way, can someone please enlighten me with my questions:

- What's the difference between SGs with a "batman" style pickguard vs those with small ones?
- Seems like I am not experiencing neckdive with my guitar, is this a case-to-case basis or is there a certain year where SGs are really prone to this one?
- What are the main differences between a standard and a reissue?
- My guitar is already 22 years old and still, the finish hasn't experienced checking yet. Aside from the "razor method" which is way out of my list, what are the ways to get that natural checking on the finish?

Thanks in advance!

Ive read about this a lot over at Mylespaul forums...should help with real checking...true..the razor method isnt that appealing to me either..

I do not have any freezer where my guitar will fit.  Plus the fact that it may warp the neck due to the sudden change in temperature, that's why I believe checking really occurs in places where there are four seasons a year.
