Post by: legnacilyz on July 25, 2006, 12:42:36 AM
sa snare.. hmmm.. u can use the "reverse dot" ng Evans... it is like the coated ambassador of remo.. ü

usually evans genera g2 is double ply and has oil inside the two films.. pra nde gaano mag bago tunog pag nagbabago ang panahon (tag init, tag ulan).. and it can produce a fat sound so if you want a punchy snappy sounding snare, i suggest that use one ply skins than double ply skins..

cheers!

I have them.  Makes the toms sing.  Depends on the sound you're looking for.  If you need more muffling, pinstripe na lang.

i've seen great comments and bad comments about these skins.
Title: Re: Evans Drumheads
Post by: daemonite on January 26, 2007, 01:26:10 AM
I've also experience them, and considering ang ginamit kong reso ko dati is yung stock reso ng lazer. ok sya if you know how to tune it properly. It was in 2000 when i first got these skins, and as far as i can remember, wala pa ata gumagamit nito sa Pinas, or hindi pa masyadong popular. Wala pa double-ply ang Lazer nun.

i've used both evans and remo. I prefer remo.

Evans Genera G2 is a very good head... we had this 16" Genera G2 head since 2002 at our school kit.. hanggang ngayon eh buhay parin.. after suffering from different pounding of different hands.. for me, easy to tune.. at pag nagseat na yung heads, no more overtones gaano.. which is mas madali itono than pinstripe..

pero which is mas makapal dalawang 7mil Films ang pinstripe right? how about evans Genera G2?

cheers!!!

I prefer Evans drumheads.  They may be a little more expensive than Remo, but it's worth the investment.  The quality is excellent, it's more consistent, it holds its tuning better, and I'm able to get great drum sounds out of it.  And these comments of mine are all based from experiences.

Evans heads are actually around for quite some time already here in our country.  When I started out back in the early 90s, Audiophile was already distributing Evans heads.

During that time, I had bad experiences with Evans.  But eversince the D'Addario company acquired Evans a few years ago, the quality of their drumheads dramatically improved.
Title: Evans Power Center coated head
Post by: wipeout on May 21, 2007, 11:59:22 AM
Hi!  I just like to get your opinions on the abovementioned head regarding its coating.  I have mine locally purchased (audiophile).  After getting it out of its package, i noticed that the coating is a bit sticky, it seems like the paint coating has not been fully dried up.  Opposite is true with Remo where the coating is really dry.  Due to this characteristics, it easily accumulates dirt.  I tried to wash it with just plain tap water and the coating just easily washed off!  Has anybody experienced this?  A friend of mine also has the same head and has had the same experience on it.  When I read opinions on some drummers in Pearl Drummers forum, they favored the Evans coating as it last longer than Remo.  Is it due to climate?  What I like in Evans is it consistency and ease of tuning but I'm having problems on its coating.  Please share your experiences on this head for those who had used this. Thanks!

Hi wipeout, long time dude....

Regarding the coating, it's kinda like wet, pero it's stable naman and the coating takes a long time before it chips off unless talagang ginamit mo sya rigorously. i had my g1 before tpos i forgot kung anong coated na head sa snare yun, pero i think it took about 2 years before naging transparent tlga yung middle ng snare. pero in fairness, maganda pa rin tunog nya. my power center - reverse dot right now is doing good too. if only my knucklehead p.a. didn't put the 12" toms when we travelled last february. yun tuloy parang may arc sya sa gilid, pero nevertheless, the impact points are doing great....

Thanks for the reply daemonite. I hope I could attend next time.  Hindi naman bugbog yung head when I tried to clean it up, actually intact pa yung coating sa buong surface ng head. I still have my coated reverse dot pero since nabura yung coating nya after ko pinaliguan, pinagtripan ko na lang pinturahan ng latex paint yung surface nya. Pag its time to replace the head, I would still get Evans pero hindi ko na paliliguan!  Hehe!  :-D

I would have to suggest that the most practical heads to get are REMO Pinstripes especially for your type of playing which requires a bit more on the heavy duty cycle..look at them as an investment..they sound great while providing you with quality heads that can last you quite some time..

Hello mga Kapatid sa Drums...he he he

Not the best recording, over head mics lang gamit ko.

well g2 isn't really an ideal bass drum head to begin with.

if you're looking for that solid thuddy bass drum sound, go with EQ2.

hindi ko gaano gusto yung maraming over-tones. Some drummers suggest na mag dry daw ako.

I've been an Evans drum head user since I got my first decent drum kit five years ago. At that time only Audiophile carried evens heads and since all they had at that time were heads for toms, I still had the stock Yamaha kick heads and used Remo ambassador snare heads on my kit. I agree that Evans heads make the toms really sing!

I recently got an Evans EMad bass head and I regret not having to change earlier. Sa tuwa ko, I just got a Generra Dry to use on a Chad Smith signature snare to replace the stock Remo ambassadors. Anyone have any experience with the Generra dry? Would this be appropriate for a steel shell snare? Would these eliminate the excessive overtones?

TIA for the reply.

Bukod sa SM North at Trinoma? Thanks

Permission to resurrect this thread sirs, I have a specific question...what Evans snare batter head can you suggest for a 5.5" x 14" TAMA SLP Snare Drum: 8-ply, 7mm Maple Shell, 10-lug Triple Flange Hoops, with Genera G1 Coated batter and Evans Hazy 300 snare heads? Genera G1 Coated ang nakakabit ngayon. I am contemplating on: Genera Dry, Power Center, EC1 or EC1 with Reverse Dot...I want to temper the openness of the snare a bit. Thanks! :-D

If you want to control the openness of its sound a bit, Genera Dry must do the action.. A controlled snare drum sound without applying moon gels or mufflers.. It has a built in muffler underneath the head that doesn't show visibly.. It also has tiny holes for a bit dryness.. Actually its pretty much for any genres.. I highly recommend Genera Dry.. I never tried and wasted money anymore finding my preferred sound when I have experienced this already..  :-D

Good am sir! Switching from Remo ako to Evans so kelangan ko ng mga advice niyo sir.
Yung mga nasa isip ko kasi na batter is EC Reverse Dot, EC, EC1 Reverse Dot, HD Dry or Genera Dry. Sa reso naman is Hazy 300. For 14x5.5 and 12x7 both maple shell.
Yung 14x5.5 ko pang All-Around then yung 12x7 is for Gospel/RnB which is gamit ko rin for side snare.
Thanks!!  :-D :-D

Ever since hinawakan ng JB ang Evans nagtaas sila ng price  😪 yung G2 nila cost me almost 800/head and yung 8" nila na parang pang timbale is 1,500. Compare this sa G2 ng Lyric when it was just less than 700 dati.
