Home recording
« on: September 17, 2016, 10:51:48 AM »
Hello po. Good morning.

Guitars/bass/edrums/vocals
->
Jamhub Bedroom
->
Cheap but decent laptop/pc (through USB out)
->
Cool Edit Pro 2.0.

Minimal lang po talaga kasi, tight budget saka making the most out of limited resources lang po talaga. Haha. Salamat po sa tulong. :)

Di ko alam yung cool edit pero i suggest reaper as DAW

As for pc, you need a decent at least i5 with 4 gb ram, yung guitars ba plug through effects then amp then amp to jamplug? Or guitar straight to jamplug? Kung guitar straight to jumplug, mas powerful na pc kelangan mo since gagamit ka ng vst and cab simulators in real time kasabay yung isa pang guitar and bass using vsts too.

Nopee.. The bedroom does not support usb connection. Pero meron syang recording output.. So it will simply work like a mixer.
It is great for silent rehersal, pero you might wanna reconsider it kung for recording purposes na solid.

Ah i see, again di ako familiar sa jamhub, pero yun nga ts, malamang pwede siya i-out sa DAW as single track? So eq should be done on jamhub or effects pedals.

Haha. Salamat po sa mga inputs. :)

Ahh.

@ts

hindi kailangan na irecord sabay sabay lahat ng instrument ha, just in case you didn't know. otherwise, live track nga tawag dun, as mentioned earlier.

loaded kase question mo ts kaya di talaga alam ng mga reader kung pano sagutin question mo. google mo muna individually, how to record bass... how to record guitar etc etc.

ano ba first concern? hardware o yung process ng pag record?

hardware? short answer is: computer first. audio interface second. latency only becomes an issue when your vst plugins start weighing down on your processor. if you do not use/monitor with live vst effects, you're most likely ok.

the pink jack on your laptop is mic level. do not enter. lol.
the blue jack is line level, pero inexpensive consumer sound cards have quality control issues --- very possible na may DC bias yan (bad).

software? long time user ako ng cool edit and adobe audition... reaper is much much better. also get asio4all.

recording process ba? create a click track. not familiar? google. then record just the drummer playing along the click track. then record just the bassist. then record guitar. then record vocalist. add effects to tracks when needed. mixdown. master. google pa more.

in short, google x infinity. hahaha jk.

good luck, masaya yan :D

enjoy sana kase may edrums kayo. if i were you I'd record just MIDI info para pag sumablay yung drummer, pwedeng ayusin. nahuli yung palo? quantize! mahina palo? adjust velocity. then bounce that "perfect" midi drums to a wav track. dugas no? hehe.

na-try mo na ba mag paint ng iyong obra maestra sa kwarto na pula yung bumbilya? nung lumabas ka at ipinakita sa friends mo, mali-mali pala yung kulay? if you have a bad room and bad monitors (pc speakers)... your mix will probably suck when you listen to it on different devices/speakers outside your room. ok lang yun. part of the learning process yun.

Just buy a decent audio interface (1-2 channels) and a decent mic (sm57/58 will do) then record every instrument one by one.

I googled Jamhub bedroom, watched a couple of videos in Youtube. I think I get what you're aiming for and it looks like it's doable.

Kumbaga all in one na rin. Thanks for the help po. :)

Bibilhin mo palang? Then interface na bilhin mo man,  record per tracks nalang or overdub like sir chiq said. Pero kung isa pang purpose is for jamming silently then go for jamhub.

I think almost the same ang goal naten TS.

What I'm planning to do is to have a bedroom studio but instead of Jamhub, I would use a mixer and headphones amp for silent band practice since we live in a small apartment. I prefer a mixer for flexibility in case we need to use it outside for live gigs
But I want to film our cover songs using a Gopro Hero4 while recording it through the mixer for "Youtube" purposes..(syncing the audio and video later though I still need to learn how to do that later)
Setup:
Behringer Xenyx Q1202USB or Behringer Xenyx 1202FX + UCA222 soundcard (not sure if I'd get the mixer with built in effects or USB interface..maybe with built in effects)
2 guitars, 1 bass and e-drumkit plus 3 dynamic mics
Our headphones connect to a Behringer HA400

Your thoughts?

cant beat jamhub for rehearsals because each player will have independent stereo mix with independent controls - which you can never do on simple mixer. pwede pa kung yung mixer na bibilin yung mackie matrix mixer http://www.musiciansfriend.com/pro-audio/mackie-hmx-56-6-channel-headphone-matrix-mixer but still not as good as the jamhub

and for the recording setup you are planning which is just a simple stereo mix then just record the R channel of the jamhub direct from the headphone out, its just as good.

^actually kaya din I don't want to go the Jamhub direction kasi we don't really need the independent controls on the stereo mix. Timplahin na muna namen sa mixer then 1 out to the PC and 1 out to the Headphones amp. Kelangan from mixer pa lang tama na timpla kasi it's the same mix that we will use to sync with the video recording for Youtube. Buti na lang compromise is not an issue sa band namen mababaet naman sila hehe..but the most we can do is adjust the output level of our own headphones

Apart from my plan being half the price of a Jamhub bedroom I also want it to be versatile so in case we need to use it for live performances then we have that option to explore.

@jellybean

ok yun kung mababait and willing mag compromise ang members volume-wise, kaya lang... what if you are the only one who can play/sing your part flawlessly?

take 2... sintunado si vox 1.
take 3... nahuli sa pasok si vox 2.
take 4... pinch harmonic sana si guitar 1 pero di tumunog
take 5... naka mute pala yung mic 3.
take x... may nag ring na cp and pinapauwi na si guitar 2.

willing kang mag x takes kase may sumablay na member? and when the band finally nails it... you get a somewhat okay mix of a stellar performance. parang sayang effort/oras diba?

nakaka spoil ang tunog ng jamhub. it actually makes you play better since you can hear better. you only say you dont need stereo or independent controls but trust me, you NEED to experience it to realize what you're missing. napakalaking bagay nila.

my biggest regret was selling may jamhub bedroom, ayaw din ibenta pabalik sa kin nung buyer. even if i have full digital mixer now - kaya ko binenta si jamhub - na mimiss ko pa rin si jamhub
