just want to add some thoughts:

you have to realize how much an advantage coming from a financially stable family really provides...from the start pa lang, pagbili ng gamit, sariling space sa bahay, lots of time because of freedom from chores etc., connections, transport, expenses during gigs, style points etc etc etc...obviously mas marami ding middle and upper class na pinapayagan/kinukunsinte mag drop out sa school at tumambay/mag-banda nalang...so the odds are really stacked in favor of the "haves" but it doesnt mean they get to have it all...marami nang example dito sa thread na 'to about bands from modest means who got somewhere...they just have to try harder...

which brings me to my next point...these bands that people think are so privelaged actually work *really* hard at what they do... dinaanan din nila ang mga bulok na promoter at gig na nilalangaw. in fact even outside of music, some of the hardest working people were already rich to begin with...mas marami pa atang batugan na mahirap kesa sa mayaman e...

so yeah life sucks but you play the cards youre dealt...

In an expanding universe, time is on the side of the outcast. Those who once inhabited the suburbs of human contempt find that without changing their address they eventually live in the metropolis

Yup! Two words for everyone: Diezel Herbert.  :-D

Who should be blame when a leaf fell from a tree?...
Is it the wind that blew it away?
Or the tree that let it go? Or is it the leaf itself which never held tight?

having money can definitely make it easy, but the thing is, even if you spend a million bucks for gear/music lessons and all that jazz . . .  if as a musician you really dont have what it takes . . .
mag buy n sell ka na lng ng gamit mo . . .

Ive seen a ton of guys spend wads of cash on gears and lessons, wala din naman nagawa for their playing ability . . .

parang tabs lng yan eh, everybody can print out a few pages of tabs, the question is
kaya mo bang gawin yun?

it just loooks easy if they are rich, if you wanna know if they are good, close your eyes and
just listen . . .

Thank you for calling Smint together w/ Pentel,
Why should I help you?

rich-er kids have the time to play music. they can be 23, and still have time to do what they want - unless they inpregnated their gf. really rich kids can be 40, not have a day job and still play music all they want.

financially challenged individuals say goodbye to music after they graduate... or maybe after failing 3x in a row... they have to work to eat cause their families wont give em food anymore. after you realize that you dont have the basic human need of food, shelter and clothing, you will know for sure that music can never sustain your existence. all of those are considering the guy didn't impregnate his GF, hehe.

in the US, some poor guys get a break because even if they dont have money, they have food stamps... they eat, ergo, they live.

the only time a poor guy can have a break here in pinas is when he has a bandmate or manager sponsoring him... and they get a chance to travel abroad to play 4 sets a night of britney, j.lo and buttercup covers, depending on the location or else it would be cueshe, hale, 6 cycle mind, regine velasquez, kamikazee, etc.

it's not all about money really... its all about TIME (and food, perhaps)

cguro they much more feel secure in terms of finance,. mas madami time , more good resources, and support., lam naman natin sugal talaga ang magbanda d2 to reach success esp kung mahirap lang tayo,.malaking bagay din yata ang connection,..

It's either "Less is More" or "Less is Bore"

hindi naman din lahat. it's based on the musician's skill anyway. not how flashy they are. it's not based on how they look like while playing. pakinggan mo yung music. malalaman mo yung skill nila..

Uh, not all po. There are some lucky individuals who are so-so in their skills pero nakakapasok pa rin ng Music Industry dahil sa connections.

Pero there are those lucky ones na buo talaga ang tunog. Mapa-mayaman man o mahirap. Yun ang mga star quality talaga.

"Kaya sumikat yan, mayaman"
"He can afford the best gear kasi may pera"

That sounds to me like people downing others who are observed to be less "deserving".

A little thing I learned in life is that EVERYTHING IS FAIR. Life does not care if you're rich or poor, ugly or handsome, talented or not. What matters in life is that you do the best damn thing you can with what you've got, and how you can live with yourself in doing what you want or need to do.

Again, instead of focusing on what others have and you haven't got, focus on what you have and maximize it. if it still matters to you that you haven't gotten far even with the best you've given, then you're in the wrong ball game. Because what you have at that point is something that is more important than having reached the top of the heap, but without having paid your dues.
