Maple fretboard wear marks, Cool or Not?
« on: November 20, 2018, 11:21:02 AM »
I have a maple neck strat due for refret. Should I refinish the fretboard surface anew or leave the wear marks on?

Keep them. It adds character

me, I prefer the cleaner looking fretboards hehehe some people like the roadworn look though! so, if it works for you then keep it! if it bothers you, like it would with me, then I 'll have it refinished.

On reliced guitars I don’t like it. They add artificial stress wear but add dents on the fret surface. I’d rather they stain them to look worn and not dented on the fretboard.

If the marks were through wear and tear, they look great on the guitar.  I've always been mesmerized with Tommy Bolin's strat (with a Tele headstock?!?) and the way the marks on the maple fretboard make it look so cool.

I think I will leave the marks on their own... gastos din ipa remove tapos babalik din. Malamang next strat I buy will be a rosewood. Thanks sa mga replies.

if it is natural or normal wear, then it is cool.
