hi guys,

Does exposing your les pauls in sunlight fades the top paint? I got a 2009 gibson les paul trad pro in heritage cherry burst and it's a bit bright on my taste..can you expedite the fading process without sending it to HM?

TIA

Fastest way would be a refin. Sun fading takes too long(based from experience, konti lang nafade sa washed cherry r0 ko at siguro din dahil sa plasticizers na ginagamit ng gibson ngayon). If you insist on sunfading, make sure to cover the fretboard. Baka magfade, dry or worse, warp(got this tip from kuya jents). Anyway, read somewhere na itutok sa halogen lamp or UV lamp can expedite the process. Never tried it though.

Back then (late 50's) people complained about the cherry color (wow) fading too fast in sunlight to the lemon color underneath (eewww). Today, Gibson uses a formulation that prevents too much fading of the cherry (eeeww) so it doesn't fade into the lemon color (wowww) underneath. :D

Tama si rowley. If you're gonna leave it in sunlight, cover everything that you do not intend to fade. Sunlight can also be harsh on your plastics.

I haven't heard or read about a Gibson USA being sent to HM for a make over.

nako bro, sometimes mga ganitong advice depende kung sino nag bigay. in some places of the world the sun, regardless of how bright, can be forgiving and comfortable - kahit ilang hours pa.

but sa pinas? the sun can melt things. so inggat lang.

Glad to hear some advice from the community. It looks like today's paint will not fade as fast as those 50s. What I plan to do is expose it to morning sun inside my bedroom with the a/c on. Its not gonna be hot and would just utilize the UV rays. And "maybe" dulls the color slightly..

Ganda ng angle at lighting. Parang nagbe-blend yung kulay ng fretboard at ng body.

Faded Tobacco Burst bro.. Thanks! :)

Yup, gassing for a black beauty pero saka na muna. I have an old amp to restore pa at medyo madugo ata ang magagastos. At enjoy muna ako ng todo sa dalawang LP's. :)
