kaibigan: bry alam mo yung bandang sugarfree?

bang napupusuan?
Pare2: Meron.. Manhid ka lang!

heegad.multiply.com

sugarfree for me is one band i know who struggled to reach their position now.

i got to watch sugarfree during their starting years. pero trio na sila nun. they actually started out as a quintet. the first line-up was ebe, jal, rico blanco, and 2 guys from session road. the guys from session road left and mitch singson came into place. then rico left and yun trio na sila.

during those years i got to watch them, they actually got a deal with viva. however sa wakas was delayed and delayed until they decided to cut ties with them and were taken in by emi. thats one reason they named their first album sa wakas because of the delays in releasing the actual product.

Ebe's songs are a bit autobiographical. whether he likes it or not, he creates a narrative/thematic progression. "Made the same album three times" is a wonderfully wrong generalization. Perhaps a bit more listening is in order, and if you don't like it, well, it's not music you like in general.

I agree that SkunkyFunk is way off the mark in that blanket generalization. Robin Rivera played a big role in getting Ebe's creative juices flowing for the project. Here's Robin's blog on the making of the third album:

I think all producers should blog.

I hear you sir, but I'm rather interested in the tonal aspect of the albums. I mean, it's almost predictable to hear the clean tone and/or crunch tone on the guitars for the verses, and hit a bit more gain in the choruses. Of course Ebe's field of experience has grown so I expect a lot of new themes in the new material. But then again I'm a lot more interested to hear them do more palabok to their arrangements.

And what's wrong with making the same album 3 times? AC/DC did the same album 10 times (or did they say 13 times)? :-D

Yeah. Parang Boom Tarat Tarat. Sugarfree makes some great hooks. Minsan yung buong song, isang collection of hooks. I don't mean sabit ha.

sugrafree is a good band... not necessarily the thing id always go back and listen to, but definitely you'll catch me singing and humming to their songs...

who cares about their "formula?" ... everybody is bound to have one... listen to Vital Remains and Deicide (just as an example) ... there are certain types of music that has to have a formula.

the only bands with no formulas or psychedelic formulas are bands that seem more like an art project than a real band (example, early Marilyn Manson) ... as for the Beatles... yes they were great and we owed them a great deal, but the only reason, they were allowed to be schizophrenic with their style is because at that time, music wasnt as well distributed and a lot of things were new... besides, they had an awesome producer.

they like to think that they're the next Rivermaya, eh silang tatlo wala pa sa kalinkingan ni Nathan.
