@dual coil: just to clarify - serato is the software and hardware suite that may be used on ANY turntable be it technics, numark, stanton or whatever else. the needles are not exclusive either and there is no such thing as a Technics MK2 needle...the headshell housing the needle might say Technics but it can be anything from a Shure, an Ortofon, Stanton or even an audiophile quality needle. when referring to SSL, FS2 or Connectiv, you are referring to the tools, the suite used to connect your PC to your turntables, not the turntables but they may be packaged together even though they have separate components. the working business of this system are the interface, the encoded vinyl and the PC - you may use ANY turntable, needle and mixer with this system; this is the beauty of this digital/ analog scheme because it is versatile and you can use vinyl alongside your laptop.

ang example po nito is, kunwari may "Technics mk2" tapos iba yung name ng niddle nya. pero ang tawag parin nila in the end is  a "Technics mk2

ayan nanaman po tayo eh.. sinabi ko na nga ang halimbawa para di kayo malito eh.. yung Technics mk2 na sinabi ko.. yun yung brand ng turntables. pero yung mga sabihin na nating peripherals nya tulad ng "needles " iba ang brand.,.pero the whole set it self is named or brand Technics mk2.. gets po ba talaga?
 :|
i know all of that.. i just making a summary of the whole package.. pinaikli ko lang po.

"what do you mean about a serato turntables" is it a separate unit or items.. or is it the brand of the turntables..

....hay naku..... what a morning...  hehehe

DJ battle na lang!  :-D

im not nitpicking further dual coil but im just adding more FYI:

ang example po nito is, kunwari may "Technics mk2" tapos iba yung name ng niddle nya. pero ang tawag parin nila in the end is  a "Technics mk2

mk2, or more properly mark II  or mkII, is version designation for a particular model which doesnt make sense in your statement at all.

have you seen the old technics sl1200 mkI? its very very different from mkII which is seen from jepoy's pics.

when mt. pinatubo exploded and the bars in angeles closed down, i was able to buy a pair of technics sl1600 mkII for 1500 each to replace my pier-bought denon 3000 mkII

so which mkII are we talking about again?

Dapat kasali si peeves! abyss pwede rin!  :-D

wahahaha, sir kit i havent touched a turntable since 98

so where can i buy such equipments in low prices? it's ok if it's second hand i am not that pro to spend a big amount of money.

2nd hand turntables meron pa ring sumusulpot paminsan minsan sa pier. dont expect any technics 1200s there but sometimes they do have some direct drive denon, pioneer and sherwood beltdrives. buy a turntable with a pitch control. get a heavy turntable too, to minimize hum.

needles, audiophile na lang ata. sayang sarado na radio shack coz they used to sell their own repackaged stanton cartridges (bassy sounding pero grabe sa tibay, ganda pang practice) for 500 each. wala na rin ata phasetron sa park square no?

for local vinyl presses, nandun pa rin sa basement ng makati cinema square kaya lang medyo mahal pa rin. i think nasa 100+ for a 12" single na locally pressed last time i went into the store (gaddd its been 10 years already). nasa sulok yun and i already forgot the name basta libutin mo lang yung basement nya dun sa area ng mga gun shop.

mixer sa raon pa rin mura

ow crap, here i go reminiscing again...

who else here wanted to learn how to match beats so bad that went as far as using 2 cassette players to mix?

common raise your hands. dont be shy

dati inaalis ko yung cover ng cassette player para mahawakan ko yung motor na nagpapaikot sa tape para mapabagal ko sya. yung pag crossfade is just a matter of adjusting the volume for the 2 players. later on i found out from a friend in marikina that he put potentiometers in series with the motor and voila! pitch control on a cassette tape.

cassette decks? wow, hardcore ka pare! the weirdest i ever mixed on was a pair of belt driven tables using a mackie 24 channel mixer.

i started late in DJing because it all began when I moved to the US which was in the early 90s. back then, the rave scene was starting to pick up and that was my training ground. the warehouse raves of detroit, philly and chicago were my turf and i learned a lot during those years. i got to meet a lot of local chicago folks too like mike farina, collette and derek carter and i watched them intently as I learned the ropes.

yup i started with a little sony cassette player and my sister's 100 watt karaoke (really highend in 1990 hahaha)

then i got a really cheap turntable without a pitch control plus an amp which i modded (i was 11 then but had a very encouraging father so i learned electronics from him) so i can use the phono and tape inputs at the same time.

i was 13 when my dad finally bought me a pair of denon TT and then i was able to buy a new "better" mixer for 2100 from money saved from mobile gigs (which was 100 pesos per night doing lights which i thought was cool).

ei jep sino nga ulit yung main man ng mars? i remember they always had the latest sounds which always become popular in radio 2 years later

no myth about the place, it actually existed. the myth is "they sell all kinds of goodies dirt cheap" because the salesmen now know what they are selling and the stuff is actually more expensive than audiophile.

from roxas blvd (coming from makati), go past Manila Hotel. makikita mo yung rotonda. nasa left intersection yung pier so ikot ka sa rotonda. maraming jeep dun, makikita mo agad yung new port area shopping center (puro tv dun). diretso ka pa papasok hanggang maabot mo yung chicago street.

@ karlo u might wanna check this out ... mura na to considering na naka Vestax Vestax PMC 05 Pro yung mixer at kasama headshells. usually kasi ang bentahan ng 2nd hand di kasama yung headshell at cartridges

@peeves
ill double check sa cuzin ko pag online na.... sya kasi yung main man sa tandem namin nung nasa Mars kami. pang showboat ako pag kailangan nya ng scratching and juggling sa set eh. :D ahahaha.

DJing has changed dramatically. How is Computer DJing in the Philippines?

Getting there. There are a bunch of guys who can do great things with just a laptop, controller, and soundcard (madz, cy, ado, malek, mark, etc etc, but its not all dj'ing of course). What's great about this is that the line between dj'ing and live PA is blurred. What I don't know is how those who've been on TTs for years (the turntablist community) feel about the movement towards computer dj'ng.

I think computer dj'ing is great IMHO, since it democratizes the whole dj'ing thing and since I do it. but like I said, I totally respect the craft of traditional dj'ing. DMC routines on youtube still completely blow me away. I guess scratching and cutting is something digital will never be able to accurately emulate. (the bcd controller had a scratch feature when used in conjunciton with the bdj/deckadance software but IMO its sounds really really really really cheesy.)

Do you think there is a possibility that Philippine DJs will be interested in Vestax Computer Interface products?

I would mos' def. And maybe some of the guys in electronica manila. that new vestax controller looks pretty bad (bad meaning good). lots of encoders, dedicated crossfader, multi-channel layout (perfect for digital djs, since we usually go for 3-4 virtual decks at least). it would be great if it had audio capabilities, a la the korg zero 4 or the a&h xone (or the djm800, is it that one that has midi control?), since i mix and eq still on an outboard analog mixer. but for a midi controller, its pretty well-specified.

kung sa mix lang.. maraming beses nako nag mix sa turntables. and i do some live mix quick shift of two turntables.. with a "street fighter" loops and voice sractch. madami na nag sabi sakin nyan na sumali ako. but all i just want is to just play and mix some music.. pero kahit isang beses hindi ako naging intrisado alamin yung mga model and brand ng turntables.. kasi for me back then. laro laro and injoy lang ang ginagawa ko. kung alam ko lang.. mgagamit ko pala yun dito..

share ko nalang ang mix ko from my  "virtual dj" kung kaya nyong talunin yan with a deferent software. its ok for me.. because having fun of mixing music is important..

@dualcoil: do you know how to blend at the very least? the problem with cutting is it really ends up producing a choppy mix...use this as your only method of mixing and your long sets will suffer-badly. i prefer long blending, even on techno songs and DnB tracks, because you are able to produce a more seamless set that just keeps the dance floor (and your tracks) going together smoothly...i might cut to accentuate the dropping of a bass or build after a nice synth drone but i do it sparingly.

@jepoy: yeah i started in the 90s and the rumor is true, the parties used to last till the next day which isn't all that weird, really, considering how parties in Europe have that as the norm the raves (at its peak) in the US was really rivaling that trend. Ibiza has a few clubs with retractable roofs so the daylight ushers in the "day" half of the party and the music just keeps on going:) I am not sure if Pacha kept that but they did have one of those when I was there. Surrender ako nyan pare kase kawawa talaga ang tenga mo after long sets and all i ever wanted to do was go home after a while.
