Re: Remo Powerstrokes... are they like Ambassadors with doughnuts?
« Reply #100 on: May 30, 2007, 11:40:40 AM »
When in doubt, there's the Remo website...  http://www.remo.com/

And search results for their Powerstroke products... http://www.remo.com/portal/search?words=powerstroke&action=Search&mode=and

The way I understand it...  Powerstroke 3 are single-ply heads with a thin underlay/ring at the outer edge.  Powerstroke 4 are 2-ply versions of the Powerstroke 3.

So, yes...  Powerstroke 3's are like Ambassadors with doughnuts.  While the Powerstroke 4's are like Emperors with doughnuts.

@blackhawk

..do you use the plastic side of the beater? that may add up to wear on the head..but it is unusual for a Remo specially the pinstripe to just break that easily.. :|

Possibly product defect?  :?

coated vs. clear ambassadors vs. pinstripes on toms
« Reply #116 on: June 06, 2007, 08:44:46 AM »
right now, i use coated ambassadors on my studio kit. (catalina maple - 10, 12, 14, 16 toms) just wondering what effect it would make to the recorded sound (i use the kit for my project studio) if i change to either pinstripes or clear ambassadors. genre? well, generally pop music...

also, i still use stock heads for the bass drum.  i'm thinking of getting a ps3 head (vinci!).

any help would be appreciated. :-)

Clear ambassadors ring quite more than the coated, and they sound not as warm as the coated ones.  Pinstripes have a very focused sound. Can still get some ring if tuned tightly.

ako bro to get more projection, i use single ply heads like clear ambassadors, pag mejo jazz and bop genres i prefer coated. (2 ply heads) pinstripes are good as long as there are mics, condensers and so on, pag wala...hehe swerte na marinig ka pag nasa stage. :-)

well sir, the kit is just for recording purposes. currently, i'm using coated ambassadors. i used to use pinstripes, which i liked. i was wondering what effect would clear ambassadors do to the recorded sound.

i use atm250's (audio techninca) for my toms. oktava mk012's (w/ either the large caps or the hypercardioid caps) or rode k2's for overheads.
