Para sa akin mga kapatid, binebenta mo ang sarili mo sa harap ng tao sa pamamagitan ng musika mo....dagdag nalang ang attire para sa pagmamarket mo...still, it counts!

How Important is a Musician's Attire?

long hair, tattoos, piercings, hats, caps, beard, mustache, goatee, black shirts, those leather things you put on your wrists, che guevara shirts, high-cut leather boots, bracelets, necklaces, rings, jewelry, facial paint, make-up, spiky hair, mohawk, dreadlocks, and many other such affectations...

what use or purpose do they have? are these effects really necessary for a musician? :-s o baka naman pang-porma lang?

how do you think a musician should properly appear for his or her audience?

we encourage you to share your opinions.

hindi important yun costume mas tinitignan yun performance nila.. pero pag costume dun makikita kung anong klaseng mood yun tutugtugin nila

ung attire for me is not as important as the quality of music the band has.
ung attire nmn kc nature na sa musician un..kung isa syang heavy metal musician its natural na ung attire nya is ung pang heavy metal.if his grunge den he'l go for grunge clothes.kc kung pakunwari lng..nagiging "costume" na ung tawag sa attire kc hindi natural.& ung iba nga nagcocostume na lng for them to get attention...panget nmn un.

For me, it depends on your genre, Alangan naman mag-goth attire ka samantalang ang tutugtugin mo eh pop di ba?

Dun na pumapasok ang "ATTITUDE" kasi once you have "it", you can get away with "it". Wag nga lang exaggerated kasi matatawag kang poser.

the way you look is as important as the way you play...

it's your responsibility to give the audience a good audio and sensory experience (knowing that they'd rather be somwhere else).

-good chops but guy in see thru sando and slippers = almost pornographic experience
-slipknot costume but missed cues and a detuned E-string = i wanna throw a bottle at the amateur.

OT:

i play metal but sometimes... i REALLY HATE wearing black... it has become the official band uniform of the 21st century. "im in a band, doesnt matter what genre i play, i have to wear a black t-shirt." if someone looks for me in a gig, they can find me cause im always wearing red or green or gray... i do everything i can to avoid wearing black... so sometimes its weird when we play cause my bandmates are in black and im wearing a gray shirt ... i have a feeling i make us look back onstage *lol*

i'm still contemplating about wearing a trenchcoat or my old vampire costumes ... cause them things are HOT! ... its hard being overweight cause a lot of cool t-shirts don't look cool the moment i wear 'em. i have to resort to those big costume things to make us look good onstage.

one of the effects of the rise of "pogi rock"

IMHO, yung mga nakikita kong puro naka itim, posers. May natanong akong lalaking naka che guevarra na shirt, sabi niya rock daw. eh diba political figure yun?

anyways, music isn't music if people are always going to focus on clothes and accessories, diba? magiging fashion design ang mundo ng mga musikero. If you want to dress up for gigs, concerts, etc. siguraduhin mo munang matino ka tumugtog, otherwise, magmumukha kayong ewan sa harap ng maraming tao.

cool nga suot mo, hindi naman maintindihan tinutugtog mo.

2 cents ko lang po.

You want to look like a musician on stage! If you come to the gig straight from your day job, don't wear your office clothes or polo barong on stage, dress a little cooler.

Ahhhh not necessarily, you can be a country musician like the late Johnny Cash and wear all black. Pampapayat din ang all black if you're on the chubby side, hehe  :-)

As for Che Guevarra, poor Che! He was a revolutionary from Bolivia that helped Fidel Castro's Cuban revolution. Now people think he's a just reggae artist or a t shirt design.

Still I think if you're on stage you should look like a musician, not someone who just walked off the street. This has nothing to do with pogi rock. A little glam is always good on stage, even someone as down to earth as Chikoy Pura of The Jerks will put on a little vest over his tshirt as part of his stage wear. You don't always need to apply mascara like Raimund Marasigan - though that does look more rock n roll :-)

To some people, i guess it does matter. I mean, I bet they get sick of seeing someone who looks like a gas station attendant playing music. They want something larger than life.

I think it depends on the market you want to reach. As a band, we dress up the way we want to, though for some occasions, if necessary, we dress up a bit (like the time we had TV appearances - breakfast show and...a text show late at night).

It depends on the music and the audience, and ultimately, on the band itself.

"eat to please thyself but dress to please others..."

some people take the entertainment value of rock & roll so seriously that they'd put on the most outlandish clothes just to get noticed. you gotta admit it though, that the attire of some musicians may sometimes be more memorable than the songs they play!

hahaha. :-D  oo nga. madalas ganto yung nangyayari.
ayus..

you have to stand out from the crowd, ndi ka mukhang audience, ndi ka mukhang fan, ndi ka mukhang tech, ndi ka mukhang pa, ndi ka mukhang bouncer. kelangan mukhang artist.

it depends din kase sa crowd, if we play mayric's or 6ug or jst regular bar gigs, a simple shirt na mejo papansin and a good pair of trousers  will do. pero pag big events, kelangan talaga pumorma. gaganahan ba manuod ung mga tao pag nakasando ka, shorts at beach walk? depende na lang kng may pangalan ka na talaga..
im screaming, im shouting...

it also depends on the audience...some of the gigs we've played, the people there are more suspicious if the band dresses up - they prefer people who are like them. in others naman, they sometimes expect us to dress the part. Tanchahan lang talaga.

Review all the popular bands or musicians "who made it to the top".Notice the peculiarities of their dress to the type of music theyre playing?
Its "packaging" if you want to sell yourself. Have you seen a "mild" baby soap in black, red, and white packaging?
There's  psychology on visual impact whether we like it or not, unfortunately in some cases, theyre quite deluding! :-(
