Really? How much yun sir? I didn't know JB had New Classics. Renown yung pinaka-high end na nasa website nila.

hehe.  123K (with snare, hardware, ZBT set) sya last check ko.  Mura kung i-compare sa SRP and sa price ng online shops like zzound and musiciansfriend.

Definitely sa atin eh konti lang makaka-afford nyan.  Pero panalo sa tunog.  Maririnig mo ang difference ng highend kit sa midrange.

Check this out: http://www.moderndrummer.com/rsrc/multimedia/productcloseups/Gretsch_New_Classic.mp3

Heto yugn Catalina Club Mod (which sounds close to the catalina maple) for comparison: http://www.moderndrummer.com/rsrc/multimedia/productcloseups/Gretsch_Catalina_Club_Mod.mp3

Ok nga yung price nya, biro mo 6600 na yung hardware na kasama. Was supposed to go to Park Square today para silipin yung kit pero di natuloy yung biyahe namin.  :-(

question lang po mga bros and sis'.

how good is a Gretsch Renown snare?

i'm planning of gettin a Renown or BP, but i can't decide.

please help me with this...for the owners of a Renown. let me know the strong points of the Renown..

what i know from it is it's a 9-ply maple wood shell. how good is a 9-ply maple shell?

i need to decide before the year ends kasi yung sale ng  JB is only til this 31st.

thank you in advance!

I dont own a Gretsch Renown Snare, pero i tried it once sa JB. Ung sound nya is a bit tingy (parang masakit sa tenga ung resonance). I tried ung 10 lugs with maple shell 14 x 6. Overall im not impressed with it. considering the price? i think its not worth it. I'd still go for Pearl Floating if you have the budget. Pero cheaper would be sensitone nila. But my toms are Gretsch Blackhawk.

Of course that would depend kung anong sound quality ang type mo. Remember, as a drummer, the sound of you snare is one of your identities.

Well, the most significant difference is, the one has ash wood shells, and the other has maple wood shells.

Gretsch Catalina Maple --- http://www.gretschdrums.com/?fa=drums&sid=573

"The Gretsch Catalina Maple series has been designed for the player who is looking for quality features without the high price. With the warm tone of the thin maple shells, UV gloss finishes, and pro tom holders, the Catalina Maple offers the looks and features of a pro kit without breaking your bank."

Gretsch Catalina Ash --- http://www.gretschdrums.com/?fa=drums&sid=574

"The Gretsch Catalina Ash series has been designed with power in mind for the player who is looking full, penetrating tones and solid overall features. Ash wood produces a lively tone that projects a clear, cutting sound. The snare quickly reacts with an aggressive tone that bites with authority and the UV gloss finishes fully reveal the visually striking ash wood grain pattern throughout the drum set."

I f you want to try renown snares, meron sa studio ni ian tan sa may cambridge... I think he's selling it sa kabilang thread.  Nagamit ko once, napansin ko lng, parang "fresh" ang sound compared sa lahat ng nagamit kong sound... (whatever that means)... basta, parang may natural reverb siya...  gets?

May bagong finish ang mga catalinas ngayun.

Catalina Ash has the all black finish in black nickel hardware.

Catalina Maple has sparkle already and all black kit. I'll try to post some pics.

Go gretsch army! Hehehe

i don't want to create a new thread kasi hindi naman ako drummer.

i hope that the drumm gurus will post their response!
