A symptom of addiction to music gear, and highly addictive, like nicotine. And also highly contagious. Music instrument distributors love this, I suspect they spread the virus to unsuspecting musicians through free product clinics. Maybe they spike the Kool-aid.

Acceptable uses:
"GAS attack!"
"Grabe ang GAS!"
or just "GAS!!!! pare"

By the way, can you reduce the size of your overly huge avatar? Please shrink it down to a managable size. We allow up to 150 pixels wide maximum. Also please reduce or remove that huge graphic in your sig. Thanks!

It basically means you want to buy stuff (in our case, musical gadgets) not necessarily because you need them, but because you just want to own one. It is for this reason of mere craving for a gadget that the cycle goes on; you GAS for a gadget, then you sell it for another gadget.

Because of this, what you suggested is kind o' right.. GAStos na rin talaga siya! :-D

mismo. pero meron na ako nito bago pa ako mag philmusic. di lang gitara sa audio gears na rin. marami pang ibang relative na syndrome yan. see below...

went through great lengths just to get me one... ended up having to pester my family in the US to have someone come home here and give me the damn box...

after which, i took a hard look at myself, and said that i've become a remorseless monster just for the sake of having a damn talkbox... had to psych myself not to give in while looking at these marvelous things posted at the classifieds section...

i'd say that i managed to cure myself of it... nakakahiya sa mga na-abala ko sa US e...

now, i'm targeting a bigger one.. hehe

Post by: robertshanepascual on October 04, 2012, 11:42:23 AM: Gear Acquisition Syndrome (sometimes Guitar Acquisition Syndrome, both abbreviated to GAS) is a term used to describe an urge to acquire and accumulate lots of gear. This term commonly associated with:

Guitarists (tend to acquire guitars, guitar amplifiers, pedals, effects processors)
Keyboard / synth players (tend to acquire keyboards, synthesizers, samplers, effects units, etc)
Drummers (various drums, percussion, drumsticks)
Photographers (cameras and its parts - bodies, lens, mounts, filters, flash, etc.)
Bike accesories (racks, lights, fenders, etc.)
The term "GAS" was coined by Walter Becker in 1996 in his article G.A.S. in Guitar Player as "Guitar Acquisition Syndrome". The term started to be frequently used by guitarists and spread out to other musicians who were familiar with similar tendencies. As it no longer concerns guitars only, GAS is now commonly backronym
