eto mahaba...pero i apologize in advance, opinion ko lang po ito based sa aking experience
there are so many myths about cymbals that i find it very hard to believe what i read. sorry dun sa mga naniniwala na maduming cymbal dark tapos pinunasan lang naging bright ulit pero hindi ko talaga maisip o madaan sa experiment e.
6 months kong di nilinis yung aax studio crash ko, kapal ng alikabok. pinunasan ko sya para kumintab pero bakit pareho pa rin tunog? as in walang pinagkaiba before ko punasan. try it, close your eyes, drop preconceptions and just believe in what you will hear.
my aax crash did not go into any significant physical (hammer, liha, torno) or chemical change (sunugin) at di ko rin sya nagagamit. nakalagay lang sa stand. why would i expect the sound change? kulang sa panahon siguro?
try ko kaya 10 years instead of 6 months? YES magbabago tunog nun. magkakaron ng corrosion e. chemical change. kaya lang di ko alam kung magiging mas dark ba sya o magiging bright.
i dont know anything about hammering and i certainly dont dispute johan's claims (rip) but i always try to modify every cheap cymbal i get by following some ideas from him and mike skiba but none of them made these cymbals sound brighter
from experience (coz i do not know any better) they became darker and thrashier instead. pinakamagandang nangyayari kapag naghand hammer ka e bumubuka yung tunog kahit pa wala kang sundin na pattern. basta bugbugin mo ng martilyo yung cymbal, bubuka yung tunog nya. you'll hear more frequencies from the cymbal than before
eto proof kahit hindi ko alam ang ginagawa ko:
bottomline is: A CYMBAL IS A CYMBAL
hindi sya tulad ng drums na pwede mong ma improve yung tunog (lalo na kung hindi mo alam ang ginagawa mo) na papalitan mo lang head. gusto mo ng bright, bili ka ng bright. if we know what johan knows then it would be nice to mod a cymbal but in order to know what he knows, we need to practice and make mistakes. that process makes it more difficult and expensive than say, buy a new cymbal perhaps?
@ushuaia
the guy, or his drummer friend asked for opinions, hence they got it
my previous comment about the guy needing to go visit an audiologist maybe out of topic and/or out of line but how can any drummer not notice how bright and harsh planet z's are? i was partially joking hence the smiley but i guess you took the comments here too seriously.
in fact, para sa lahat, kung hindi pa kayo nagpunta sa audiologist, i strongly urge you to visit and have a cleaning. it wont help you with your cymbal choices but it will definitely help you understand what you are taking for granted which is your hearing.
sorry lunch break at wala magawa kundi magtype...
