Quote from: rodney vidanes* a few songs of Weather Report were also afro-cuban inspired.Yes, during Jaco's stay with Weather Report there were Carribean influences in some if not most of their songs. This was due to Jaco's trips to the beach with his family when he was a kid listening to steel drum players (Actually, more like Trinidad & Tobago influenced because it's the country's signature instrument).Afro-Cuban music is exciting! Not that many audiences, though. I think Miami Sound Machine has Afro-Cuban influences in their songs, too.
well speaking of steel drums, i think Othello Molineaux is the best...how amazing that he could make the steel pans sing like a piano or a saxophone...hanep talaga!
If you're looking for *the* Afro-Cuban guru in this country, look no further than percussionist Bo Razon and his various groups (Puro Ritmo, etc.). Bo has been to Havana many times to learn direct from the masters. Last I heard he was just in Barcelona playing with Grace Nono and Bob Aves.
