Walang distro nga dito, sayang. Audiophile would have been the best bet since they carry Emu products... but all they have are the old sound modules.

I got my sounds (see my sig) by being a member of the Unofficial Emu Forums. Didn't have to spend a single peso, except if you count what I spend monthly for DSL.

kitc - dami mo sound banks pang emu x!   bigyan din nila kaya ako pag nag-member ako? hehe.  san kaya yun unofficial emu forums?  think i'm interested in either the virtuoso or modern symphonic orchestra.  para pang film-scoring kasi eh. :D

You can find the Multimedia Production Forums (nee Unofficial Emu Forums) here. I'm the main moderator there. The VirtuosoX sounds are very good but you have to work a little bit on them, parang Garritan Personal Orchestra, but the end result can be impressive. I suggest going to the Garritan site to get a LOT of tips on orchestration.

Villman and Emu? Hmmm... What did you get and how much? Just curious...

Emu actually discontinued the 1820m because of a European Ruling that mandated that products be lead free by 2006, including electronics. And guess what solder contains? The main consideration was to prevent children from ingesting lead (you know, lead poisoning). Frankly, I have never seen a child take a bite out of one of my computer cards. If you've seen any of the RoHS stickers (Restriction on Hazardous Substances) on any electronic products or anything else coming out of the EU, that would be it. This ruling has affected the entire electronics industry and has cause a massive retooling of sorts.

Since Emu already has an RoHS product, the 1616 and most new products, they decided to discontinue the 1820 rather than retool for the new leadfree circuit. Everyone's been wondering what would replace the common solder on these new circuit boards, tin? Or maybe silver? Hmmm....

x_taxi - if you need help configuring your Emu or Patchmix, just let me know. Be sure to download the latest drivers and application software from Emu.

kitc - very interesting info bout the lead-"full" 1820m.  but it seems tho that the 1616 is a step down from the 1820 in terms of i/o.  wonder if its still the same dsp chip.

We believe it's a different DSP because the pci doesn't have a firewire port. Emu also claims the mic preamps on the 1616 breakout are better than the preamps on the 1820m. No worries though, those preamps were designed by Ted Fletcher of Joe Meek fame and it still sounds quite good.

The St. Thomas strings bundled with EmuX are ok pero kulang in expressiveness, IMO. The VirtuosoX has the following tremolo strings: Hall Section Tremolo 1, 2, & 3, 16 Violins Legato & Tremolo Stereo, 16 Violins Legato & Tremolo Mono, 16 Violins Pizzicato and Tremolo, 5 Violins Tremolo, 5 Violins Tremolo Mono, 5 Violins Pizz/Trems, 15 Violas Legato/Trems, 15 Violas Tremolo Strereo, 15 Violas Tremolo Mono, 10 Celli Tremolo Stereo, 10 Celli Tremolo Mono, 5 Celli Legato/Tremolo, 4 Basses Tremolo, 6 & 4 Basses Leg/Trem, 3 & 4 Basses Leg/Trem, and Bass & Celli Trem.

There are also spiccato and marcato samples, as well as solo vibrato and pizzicato samples for a total of 512 presets. There is a downloadable mp3 of the VirtuosoX on the Emu site... makes me kinda GAS for their more expensive Symphonic Orchestra soundbank.  :-D

EDIT: You SHOULD hear their Modern Symphonic Orchestra set... incredible samples; could give GPO a run for it's money.

Best way is to contact Emu... I know they have a marketing arm in Singapore (via Creative) as well as web online store. Btw, I just heard that we already have PayPal here eff. Oct 13 or something (with emphasis on the pay, as in outgoing - can't receive money yet).

True, software emulations are much cheaper. You can always go to the other forum and try your luck at being member of the month.  I'm now receiving the Street Kits EmulatorX soundbank for being voted MOTM last month; that makes 6 Sound Central sets already!

Too many importers concentrating on hardware that they forget that software can be just as profitable (and easier to stock). It's just a matter of choosing the right ones. Granted that piracy is rampant here, it's just a matter of time before it comes back to bite us. I've already detected a few soft and cracks that "call home".

You can always check out M-Audio's selections. They have the ProSessions Producer series. Hopefully, JB will wise up and promote these and other software. I also hope that other importers follow as well.

Thanks! Hard to believe I was a noob in that forum 2 1/2 years ago.

I don't know of anyone retailing Reason. Of course, there are the "usual" channels, but you don't get bugfixes with those. Especially nagging is the Rewire channel problem with Cubase VST; I loaded up Rebirth (which is free now, yey!) and Project 5 V2, and my Cubase VST choked. Couldn't get the fix which is only available to registered Reason users. Good thing SL2 alleviated the problem, but there were things in VST that I still found useful.

That's not the impression I got from Emu's Ichi. Let's see if I could push a few buttons with Emu.

btw, nag-musical scoring po ba kayo if you don't mind me asking?  :-)

Sort of... mostly for personal and one-off projects for private individuals. This one used a combination of VirtuosoX, MU-80 , and some found orchestral samples to achieve the desired effect. Tell me how you find it.

peace to you sir x_taxi !

yes sir, i also posted the contact of axis sa supplies directory natin...na sinasabi ko nga dun na claiming to be distributor ng emu products which is ang nakakainis nga sa kanila, di naman talaga sila nagbebenta ng mga products(puro creative lang ata)...

i called them last 3 months ago saying na di nga sila nagdadala ng mga soundcards dito sa pinas and only emu 0404 and emu 1212m lang ang dala nila(tapos nakakaasar iisa nalang daw stock, anu ba yan, kuya?)...kaya nga gulat ako sa post nyo na nakausap nyo at sinabihan kayong pede...di sana inantay ko nalang pala un... isang pang dahilan kaya ako nadismaya din nung time na yun kasi sinabihan ako nung kausap ko na kapag nagpapaorder pa sila...by batch pa nilang gagawin...ibig sabihin magaantay pa sila ng MARAMING oorder which is...malabo daw un mangyayari...so tinigilan ko na...

salamat.gbu

then i spoke with michelle, the creative brand manager sa axis global.  she said na emu products don't move at all, that's why they had a clearance sale.  maybe i must've gotten the last 1820m.

Of course they don't move at all dito. Creative is a more well known brand so they're playing safe with inventory while completely neglecting and not marketing the Emu line. They probably even never heard of Emu before.  A shame, really. I'm gonna write Ichi a strong letter about this.

Normally it's called portamento when programming a synth. In EmuX, they call it glide.

You can access the glide parameter by going into Voice Processing mode. Expand the tree for the Worm patch by clicking on the "+" sigh then click on Voice Processing. In the oscillator section, there is a parameter called Glide just above the Envelopes section. It has a graph for choosing the glide ramp and a knob for the time it takes to glide from one note to the next. Remember that glide will not function if the succeeding notes do not overlap, hence, no legato notes - you have to hold down the previous note for the glide to happen going to the next note. You can also setup a cord so that large note jumps will cause the glide to occur faster.

better dealer brings in emu sa pinas.  almost placed an order na sa states, cause axis global's takin too long gettin back to my inquiries.  was plannin nga to fedex it na lang here.

If you have relatives in either the east or west coast, use Johnny Air. May take about a week but it's way cheaper than Fedex. Johnny Air has a branch in Megamall, basement floor, near Bio Research (bldg. B?), you can inquire there about rates - they're also listed in the yellow pages.
