Di pa ako nakakarinig ng success story from a Battle of the Band Champion.

Would you join such contest, or just work your a** off to the top from gigs?

Sa Muziklaban at Nescafe Soundskool may mga success stories. Those were battle of the bands on a national scale na funded by commercial means kaya madali nang sumikat, but still its a contest where anyone can join basta may laman ang tunog ng grupo. Pero giging pa rin ang da best, kasi umiikot ang grupo sa iba't ibang venues and audiences, may chance na mas mapakinggan yung mga sound ng grupo nang paulit-ulit hanggang sa makilala, at kung may top manager or talent scout na pure ang intentions towards musicality na nakapanood sa grupo, sure win na yun.

Diputa, hindi ako sumali sa mga Soundskool na yan nung nagaaral pa ako. Papogirock-an kasi.

i'd rather gig.
i've experienced a national scale b.o.b.
and all i can say is the 'politics' will make you cringe
plus it's music...it's art...it's not a competition

bilangan ka ba naman ng 3 mins sa pag-'soundcheck' tignan ko kung di ka mapa-"huh?!"

Depende, kung mga college battle of the bands or mga band competition na pang sosyal like Nescafe Soundskool, Sessionista, Muziklaban, Globe Kantabataan.. Pwede na.. Sana lang talaga may gumawa ng America's or Philippines' best Rock Band... hehehe..

Pero most like Gigs talaga... Kasi mas masaya, pwede ka pa magsama ng chicks.. hehehe

sabi na kakilala ko nagbabanda dati pag sumasali sa mga battle of the bands ang habulin mo lang dun cash prize. at yung sinasabi recording deal na ibibigay sayo kalokohan yun wag ka na umasa.

Gigs mas trip ko, parang walang originality karamihan kapag battle eh... Tsaka mas maayos ang exposure dito dahil di competition walang kang doubt na makipag-interact sa ibang bands... Sa battle kase maiilang ka sa mga kalaban mong bands eh... Baka pag-isipan ka pa ng masama... hahaha... atleast sa gigs di mag-iisip ng masama ang ibang bands kapag kinakausap mo mga organizer... di katulad sa mga battle... Masama agad iniisip... "Luto ata to" to be specific...

Mayo came from Muziklaban, and there's Stonefree from Monster Radio's Band search back in the early 2000's (nkalimutan ko ung title nung event ehh, "Band Break Out" yta..)

.. I would prefer joining those kinds of Artist search, mas madali na sumikat from then on kasi alam mong may mag`mmarket sayo.. mahirap mka`chamba sa gigs, lalo na naun sobrang daming bandang maggaling..

i always think of this as "competition vs. cooperation"...why do we compete above anyone else anyway? is it better to prove to others that "you're better than them" than giving everyone headsup and jamming together after or something?

Ok rin minsan ang BOB lalo pag Maganda ang sound system at sure win ang banda mo (kahit 3rd place lang).

Diba GIG rin naman ang Battle of the Bands?

pag battle of the bands kasi most probably mga sumasali is mga hindi pa ganun ka sikat or baguhan palang sa band industry. May mga band na na di discover sa battle of the bands pero mas madaming sumisikat sa GIGs, pag GIGs kasi parang nasa stage kana of being a professional musician

I dunno about that. Some bands make a living out of making the rounds of battles, so to speak. And as for gigging...it should always be treated with professionalism.

it depends for me?

if you need money for your own BATTLE OF THE BANDS talaga.

but if you want more experience and GOOD exposure sa gig tayo syempre.

but for me for being practical lamang. sa battle of the bands talaga ako pabor.

Nung high school ako, sumali kami sa battle of the bands dito sa barangay namin. Yung mga judges mga oldies. At the end of the event, tinalo kami ng mga showband from Japan na nasa 50's na. Para sa akin, Ok sumali sa mga battle of the bands kung ang habol mo lang ay experience. Kasi you get to play with different bands with different ages, & genre of music. Ngayon kung ang habol mo lang talaga ay manalo at hindi mo kayang tumanggap ng pagkatalo, IMO huwag ka munang sumali sa mga BOB. Kasi sa mga contest na ito, ang kailangan mong ma-please ay yung panlasa ng mga judges.

para sakin mga sir mas ok ang playing a gig kesa sa batel of the bands kasi

with the state of productions and scene support nowadays... i'd rather play battle of the bands, at least some kid's brother or sister is there to watch and genuinely like your band, not to mention, there's a slight air of professionalism there

a lot of "scenes" also have politics, add that with a lot of crap musicians tuning their guitars onstage at full volume and distortion.

lasing pa yung mga judge. Sila pa nanalo. Di naman maganda yung pagkakatugtog nila.

Winner/champion of battle of the bands esp. national contest= opportunities will come, talent scouts and managers would provide you to the recording company.. It's pure luck if you chose this but on

Gigs= more exposure, more fun and most important with pay..
Showband/RNB band are priorities for abroad..
