Yung pinsan ko ganito halos ginagawa niya ngayon. Naka pot lahat sa garden. Oregano, Thyme, Mint, Basil, Kaffir lime. Check ko pa yung iba.

Gardening is a hobby.  Farming is an industry.

Gardening is a hobby.  Farming is an industry.

come on ML lets not use the dictionary on this. eh sa gusto ko magtanim ng luya sa pagitan ng mga niyog. natutuwa ako ginagawa eh. diba hobby ang ganun?

It's NOT farming, regardless if you want to use the dictionary or not.  Semantics does not follow your rules or terminologies.  Also, farming encompasses more than just planting, and no gardener plants ginger between coconut trees as a hobby.

i derive fun in what i do so i define it as what it is, regardless of how you define or not. i am not about to engage in a semantics war with you over what is gardening and what is not gardening. i know where this is gonna go so before it gets there, ika nga ng mga mods natin, i are gonna NIP it in teh budz...

Farmers do have fun farming after all.  Definition notwithstanding, semantics DO NOT rely on how you enjoy yourself.

i tried. i used to have a bunch of plants in my room, by my window. my mom is obsessed with plants/flowers that she had me take care of a few. don't know anything about plants really, except that you water them everyday. pretty basic stuff. they died when i left home. :/

tried growing weed too. does that count? heh.

also trying to help my mom grow her herb plants now. real herbs, btw. but i keep killing her basil plant for pesto.

i think i might be into gardening too... if only i weren't too lazy to go out in the sun and take care of them.

anyone?

I need some help sa garden namin.

any suggestion?

I'll post pics soon. :-)

Gusto ko magtanim ng miracle seeds (dunno what the actual plant is called). Those red seeds that comes out of drinking sessions that makes any potable liquid taste sweet.  :-)

Yellow bamboo, very nice.

Im also selling may other 8-15 feet live with roots, yellow bamboo. Buhay na po ito at malalaki na.

I also accept swap kong meron kayo :):

Chico
Rambutan
Langka

try reading up soil and compost, managing your own garden, weeds, rats, sunlight direction, bacteria, biology....TIME....etc.

Id love to do it but its really harder than it looks. Unless you just want to have some basil on a pot, pick on it for your pasta or pizza toppings and watch it replenish until it slows down replenishing.

Note to self...... Should have bought 10 pots of basil.

i-up ko na din to para sa mga interesadong hardinero.

my grandmother is big on plants. flowering, shrubs, bonsais, etc.

would like to try aqua/hydrophonics pero may makikialam sa bahay so wag muna ngayon.

We acquired around 1500 square meters of land right near where we live smack in Laoag city.

You are in a city but it feels so rural I love it. Not a hobby but a lifestyle of our not so distant future and a dream within reach to be our own selves and escape the tyranny of the monthly paycheck.

Anything except rice. Whatever that grows locally but also lots of flowers to atrract bees and plants that creep to provide shade and of course fruit bearing trees and bamboo and bananas
And avocado. Papayas, sweet yam and corn, pumpkin .

Im usually staring at air during work just thinking of all the things i want to plant its embarassing.

And the fun part is we have no idea how to do it.

Libro brad. Start reading on gardening and plant stuff. Para pag uwi mo may gagawin ka na and you know what to buy.

Whatever you do dont use any chemicals or weed killer. Yung mga nalaman ko ay gumagamit sila ng straw or hay to cover the ground. Some use dead leaves or anything like woodchips or palay by products.
Nung bata ako sa Baguio i remember the ground was covered entirely of pine needles. No weeds growing when they are literally covered with it.

World Naked Gardening Day is upon us – here are 9 horrors to avoid

Get your hoes out everyone, it’s World Naked Gardening Day.
We’re used to seeing tits and thrushes in the garden, but today we could be seeing a whole lot more.
The weather may not be at its optimum for weeding in the nude, but everyone is being encouraged to tend to their flower beds as nature intended.
In fact, there’s a whole website dedicated to the cause, which claims that it is now the 10th annual World Naked Gardening Day. Gosh, that came around fast, didn’t it?
But letting it all hang free while brandishing shears comes with its risks.
Here are some rules to follow on this special horticultural day.

Had the chance to go hoem and work on our farm for 4 days. Everyday i would wake up around 4:30-5:00 just before the break of dawn and ive had my first taste of farm life. It hit me in the face lookin at how hard it was walkin around on heavy mud caked boots plantin fruit bearing trees, manually crushing pests off the pumpkins, running out of space on where to plant. Looking for weeds to pull out.

It was also a very spiritual experience on my part especially when i got my hands dirty trying to notice the condition of the soil. The environment and all the things that i can do, what else to plant maybe a deep well here and a small shack over there.

Yeah i was happy for a few days but i know farming aint no piece of cake. Im not ruling out the trees i planted will survive so im throwing expectations out the window.

Clay from my boots mixed with sand and you need to add some fiber like used up rice stalks.
Yiu can use it for making small cob homes, oven and statues if you like or an alternative to hollow blocks.

Wife would kill me if i took a photo...he he.

Saw this one, had some lemon younglings. Got some soil where the horse dumps. Got some burnay style earthen pots plus lots of elbow grease.

And wala...

My humbling Lumboy tree. I am always awed by its resilience. Never fails to remind me of the poem The Giving Tree. I will honor it by erecting my sons tree house around it.

Going inside a music store. Ooh i want this, 8 of that but man di pwede sa mainit.

awwww man! akala ko ang weird na nakaramdam ako ng ganun when I was in an Herbs Store last 2 weekends =)) ended up with a plethora of fresh herb plants =)) and I WANTED MORE =))

im actually scared that I might develop a controlled environment just for them i.e. BASIL PLANTS are really sunlight hungry, so I might get sunlamps for them. sighhhh control control control. =)))

Not a hobbyist but i'm into the business farming

Purchased a 1.X Ha of Land sa probinsya para taniman ng mga Cacao, Nakatanim na silang lahat, almost 700 trees.
Now, the waiting game starts. 3-5 Years pa, bago ako payamanin ng hobby ko na to.

Cacao!!!

What variety you planting? Saan banda climate wise tsaka ilang years ang production rate ng mature plants?

Yaahn.

I remember our neighbours had these and we would pick the fruits not knowing anything about it. Would love to try it on a smaller patch of shaded land and start from there.

mag root crops ka, potatoes, or ginger (kaso 1 year bago ka umani)

Pero ngaun, mas maganda ang sili, kasi in 4-6 months, mature na agad ang mga sili mo, then, 2 months, pwede ka na mag harvest.

- last 2008 we acquired a 3 ha coconut farm in Batangas,
- napabayaan,
- early this year we started reviving the farm.
pics to follow.

Nice move in reviving farmland. Ganito rin ang dream namin ni misis. Revival ng farm nila from mono crop rice to diversified crops and livestock.

Bought sunflower seeds today, and hoping na sana mapamulaklak ko sila :)

We also bought RAMGO sinigang pack (okra, sitaw, kamatis, kangkong, labanos) - okay ba yung ramgo seeds?  I guess we'll have no problems as my father has a green thumb and nakailang ani na din kami ng saging, okra at talong.

Maselan ba yung kamatis patubuin? Any tips naman po. New to this thing e :)

yung talong din madali lang yan.
