"click for available ports" just click it.  its possible that some of the ports are version 1.1.

my msi kt600 board is usb version 2 but when you look under systems properties some are v1.1

just try plugging your v2 usb device to all ports and see if you still get that balloon message

What mobo are you using? With some boards, the usb2 ports have a separate backplane slot accessory separate from the onboard usb ports, which are normally usb1.1. I use an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and the onboard ports are 1.1 while there is a specific header which is dedicated to usb 2, the ports are in the optional backplane accessory. AFAIK, it's only with recent mobos that all usb ports are entirely usb2.

there should be usb 2 drivers included in the motherboard cd if you are not using win xp

Weren't you able to get the SP1 update cd? In any event, you will find that the SP1 update cd will refuse to install itself unless you change the pc's date in bios; around early 2005 should do. Btw, I can't find a P4800D-X on the Asus site, only P4S800D-X and P4U800D-X.. no usb2 drivers either (strangely enough, MSI has usb2 drivers for it's mobos).

depende talaga yan sa board pero sabi mo ay bago ang board dapat meron na yan kc yung mga luma lang na board ang walang usb 2.0 di problema ang service pack jan o yung win xp os mo ilagay mo uli yung driver ng board re install mo.

I would agree on this one... I'm betting that the MotherBoard that you have has USB1.1 ports. Better check the Mobo manual in order to check the speed of the USB devices. You can also check the BIOS settings for the USB speed but I doubt if it shows it.

Question... hindi naman nag ha-hang yung PC mo after plugging the External HD sa PC... ksi ang tendency ng PC is to hang pag masmataas yung version/speed ng USB devices. But i've seen a lot of cases where it only slows down the performance and sometimes it doesn't.

Windows XP auomatically installs the USB drivers kaya i'm leaning towards the Hardware more than the Software (USB driver). For worst case scenario and you're 100% sure that the MotherBoard that you have has USB2 ports, is that you can Flash the BIOS to update your Hardware settings. One way but not advisable especially for Desktops... dami process na gagawin and very dangerous to the attached devices yung Flash ng BIOS.

you can also try to plug your External HD in another PC one with a USB2 and USB1.1 so you can check when and where the balloon message will appear... In this manner you'll be able to isolate the Problem.....

hope this helps... Peace!  :-D

I think you can download a manual from Asus.

Did you try the drive with another usb2 equipped mobo?

may settings yata sa BIOS yan to enable USB 2 support nagkaroon kasi ako ng ASUS P4V8X-X dati pang P4 sobrang hassle nung mga mobo line ng asus for P4 dati naalala ko pag mag kakabit ka ng SATA disk dun kailangan mo pa mag install ng driver through DOS mode at floppy disk ang kailangan..

if i were you bili na lang ako ng firewire card  :-D not more than 500 pesos lang naman yata

Are the scanner and printer usb2 devices? I think the bus slows itself down to the slowest device connected to the hub.

Sir,

Try mo rin to...

Turn your PC off... remove the power cables from the power source... hold down the power button for 10-20 secs (discharging the static)

remove all Devices na naka connect sa PC mo like printers, scanners, speakers, etc...

make sure ang ikakabit mo lang sa PC mo eh yung power, monitor, mouse and keyboard...

Boot boot your system up (kung USB yung mouse and Keyboard mo remove mo after boot -- anyway hot pluggable naman yung USB devices; kung hindi sya USB nevermind just keep it plugged in) and plug your External HD ---check mo kung may balloon error message parin...

Pag meron parin Motherboard mo na yan sir... hindi sya USB2 compliant or hindi sya naka set sa BIOS...

Hope this helps.... :-D
