Hi,

I have this old M-Audio Mobile Pre (2000s model pa) that has served me well. Ngyon I wish to record acoustic drums with 6 drum mics. Kaso yung mobile pre, 2 lang xlr (digital) So i plan to have a Behringer UMD404HD interface shipped here, na may 4 xlr (digital i think) inputs.

So question, pwede ko ba pagsabayin nakasaksak yung m-audio ko and behringer interface para each drum mic may assigned track sa DAW? Need yoir confirmation bago ko magpabili :) thanks

I was typing a reply giving an answer, but I decided to delete it because I'm not an expert and I don't want to tell you the wrong answer.  But what I can do is recommend you research "aggregate audio interface"

it MIGHT work but the DAW might be confused, kasi for reaper, sonar, cubase, isang interface lang yung lalabas sa devices and isa lang yung pwede mong icheck.

either upgrade to an interface with 6 or more channels or parang ganito na setup:
6 mics --> mixer --> stereo out to audio interface.

Thanks all. Yeah mukang pwede naman daw pero need to install ASIA4ALL driver (which I need to research on more) sabi nun nagresearch ako on Aggregate Audio Interfaces for Windows.

I am using ableton live lite (yung kasama pa nun m-audio ko na interface, luma na ren ) as my DAW pero sana may ganito ren options. will check it out first and research ulet.

Pwede naman. On Mac OS X it'll be an aggregate device. You'll just open the Audio MIDI setup program, and you can create an aggregate device. Pipiliin mo which audio devices would be included in the aggregate device, and once done the computer will recognize the aggregate device as one audio device. I've done it with an M-track Fast Track Pro, Soundflower, and Audinate Dante at the same time.

Idk the Windows equivalent of Audio MIDI setup though, pero meron naman yan online. Good luck sa recording.

Hi,

thanks sa mga nagcomment. I made this work (used two usb interface at the same time) using ASIO4ALL driver sa Windows. I have 2 usb interface with 4 inputs each, so I have 8 inputs assignable to differet tracks. Real time ren ang recording/monitoring and playback (in my opinion, zero latency talaga, pero baka meron pero mga milliseconds lang).

yeap. possible ito sa ASIO4ALL. onting ms delay lang. super non noticeable. you just need an able computer to do this. (i.e. strong processor and memory)

hi guys,

if you're using a mixing software you don't have to do that. just do it in multitrack.
mixers are usually use when 2 or more instruments are being recorded mainly to have channel separation.. "para clarong madinig yun instruments na nire-record in a single track even at the same level or frequency".  but if you have a mixing software kahit hindi ka na mag record ng multi-instrument in a single track kasi mixing software is multitrack already..

okaaaaaayyyyy... so saan ipplug inputs mo papuntang "mixing software" kung dalawa lang input ng Audio Interface mo, at gusto mo mag multitrack ng 4 or more inputs, say drums? :D

bakit nga mag record ng multi instrument in a single track.. record na lang yun instrument singularly.. put it on mixer software.. then render it in a single sound file.. say mp3 or wav file

i have done this almost 2 decades ago na..

same procedure lang noong nag-record kami sa paragon records noong 90's..
→ the sound engineer record us doing it all together
→ sumunod yun drummer alone nirecord ang track niya.. pinapakinggan niya yun sabay sabay namin sa headphone niya..
→ then bass track,
→ then guitar tracks (electric guitar rythm),
→ then acoustic rythm
→ then lead guitar (including instrumental)
→ then main vocal track
→  then back up vocal track

tsaka minixed ng sound engineer

NOTE: sa pag record at pag mix.. parang pareho lang sa home recording or PC recording..  kagandahan lang you do it in your own bed room lang.. and recordings are saved into files kaya puwede mix or alter effects and volumes anytime and render it all gaian many times.. na hindi ka gumagastos ng libo-libo..

sir, I think you're not understanding the requirement.
if you plan to multitrack a drum track, i.e. 5 mics, one track for kick, one track for overheads, one track for snare, 2 tracks for the toms, all being recorded in a separate track in your software,  this will be impossible to do with a 2in/2out interface.

que naka "mixing software" ka pa, it is virtually impossible kung kulang ang inputs mo sa audio interface.
the idea of using 2 audio interfaces is to get access to record different tracks in your Recording Software, not just to get more inputs.

iba yung multitracking na record, add track, punch in another take.

hahaha ako binibiyak ko muna yung wetpaks para makita kung may yellow thingy hahahaha

yung oldschool way, isang track lang ang drums, pwede yang naiisip mo. pero sa modern way of recording drums, hindi uubra yan.
more often than not, a drum track will at least get 5 layers/tracks in your DAW Software, tulad ng nasa baba. hiwalay ang bass, snare, cymbals so that the engineer can adjust with precision

yup pero naka-mixer naman yun..

ibg pong sabihin.. when you have a mixer software.. you dont have to have several usb inputs.. just one lang kasi po one at a time lang ire-record ang tracks.. hence, multitrack recording

Track 1 → drumline.wav
Track 2 → bassline.wav
Track 3 → Rythmguitar.wav
Track 4 → leadguitar.wav
Track 5 → instrumentalguitar.wav
Track 6 → mainvocals.wav
Track 7 → backupvocals.wav

then after timplahin ang effects kada tracks, optimizing volumes.. it will be render as a single sound file.. of course before rendering it ise-save muna in a file para puwede balik balikan.. timplahin ulit or to have another copy kung nasira yun nauna..

now unless you really wanted to record sabay sabay.. i won't advice several usb interface.. kasi mare-record siya as a single sound file lang naman.. so walang channel separation..

i would suggest yun naka-input sa usb guitar interface is yun output ng mixer.. kaso line out (impedance level) ang output ng mixer.. unlike sa guitar or guitar fx na mataas (instrument level).

so not uless may switch ang input ng usb guitar interface between "amp out or line out" walang mis match impedance..

otherwise yun output ng mixer na XLR.. i-convert into 1/8" trs at mag input sa line in ng soundcard.. yan match yan line out to line in

so that's how you record several instrument.. or inputs in your PC.. lalabas siya single track lang or single sound file

oo nga medyo lumayo yun sagot ko.. my bad..

kung yun recording software mo is puwede 2 or more inputs.. puwede yun sabay M-Audio at yun Behringer niya.. aside from mixcraft na isa-isa lang yun nare-record.. i also used adobe audition before tsaka isa pa i forgot na.. isa-isa lang talaga..  don't know ngayon sa mga softwares kung may 2 or more inputs tapos may channel separation na.. pero mixer pa din talaga.. kung marunong sana siya summation amp circuit lang yan.. para mapag sabay niya yun M-Audio at Behringer na hindi mag-aagawan

as mentioned, hindi nga different instruments ang scenario. kung over dub lang ng overdub, pwede yung sinasabi mong take 1 guitar, tapos new track, record bass. pero kung gusto ng separate tracks/channels sa isang instrument. (i.e. 5-8 mics for drums, 3 mics for guitar amp) eh hindi na uubra yung snigle input USB interface.

hindi naman several instruments, single track ang aim mo pag nagpapasok ka ng multi interface scenario. you're doing this to get more channels which you can record ng sabay sabay.

now unless you really wanted to record sabay sabay.. i won't advice several usb interface.. kasi mare-record siya as a single sound file lang naman.. so walang channel separation..

super wrong my man. kaya ka nga mag mumulti-USB Interface dahil gusto mo ng channel separation :)
karamihan din ng interface may impedance switches na.

you have to research about modern USB Interfaces my man. mukhang 90's parin ang nasaisip mong recording methods ;)

hindi na rin kailangan gawin to electronically. kaya na through software gawin ito. Asio4All will allow the PC to use both audio interface I/Os and then sa DAW Software mo, si Asio4All yung ilalagay mo na Audio I/O.

Nagka gig ako dati na nagulat ako tumutugtug yung mga kanta namen after ng set. Yun pala nirerecord ni FOH yung mga kanta. No interface pero naka mackie na digital mixer sya and I believe na mackie rin yung pinaka DAW. I though of that because aanhin mo nga naman yung multiple interface na pahihirapan ka pa sa setup. Yun nga lang, I guess the only thing that you can turn are the knobs on the mixer and on the DAW. Hindi sya tulad ng mga Sonar, Cubase and Pro tools na you can put everything that you might need. Pero in fairness, ok yung quality nun recording or baka halimaw lang talaga yung mga kasama ko. :)
