Sad plan to kill cultural icon

The plan of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to phase out jeeps is a sad development. Jeeps are a cultural icon of our country.
From the original World War II utility vehicle of US military forces in the Philippines, the jeep has evolved into a colorful public transport vehicle. The body is now painted with fiesta-like, geometric patterns—much like the forms and colors in Muslim art. Newer designs have sprouted with the advent of spray paint and sticker art.

IMHO, tama lang. I mean we really have to switch to a more practical and efficient means of transportation. And hindi naman natin siguro maipagkakaila na talagang barumbado ang mga jeep sa daan.

After all, pwede naman i-exhibit yan in a transportation museum of sorts.

^I agree! Pero sa palagay ko hindi major. Sa mga City lang alisin na ang mga jeep at palitan ng mas modernong paraan. MRT/LRT extension/modernization o kaya ung nababalitang subway or modernization ng PNR. Hindi na kasi kayang palawakin ang major roads ng pilipinas e. Lahat ng kalye natin may residence area sa tabi. 

Oo maraming driver ang mawawalan ng trabaho nakita ko na yang side na yan. Maraming talyer din ang hihina ang kita dahil mamamatay ang pruduksyon ng jeep sa Pilipinas. Hindi dahil sa moderno na tayo pero paraan ito para lalong sumulong ang Pilipinas sa pag unlad. Hihintayin pa ba natin na ang gulay mula sa bundok ay abutin ng pagkabulok dahil sa traffic? Hihintayin pa ba natin maging bilasa ang mga isdang binibili natin sa pamilihan dahil sa traffic?

[Admin 04] This is in response to Top Gear’s Facebook post dated 06 January 2017 showing a long queue at the NAIA Terminal 2 metered taxi stand with an accompanying complaint of overpricing of airport taxi fares.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) yesterday directed the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), headed by General Manager Ed Monreal, to address the issues.

In response to the directive, the leadership of the MIAA held a meeting yesterday afternoon to discuss additional measures to resolve these concerns.
An immediate solution is to relocate the two taxi types in one area only. The employees of the said taxi companies will no longer be allowed to loiter.
The MIAA will be announcing additional procedures and innovations in the following days.
Rest assured that the Department does not condone acts of abuse from the transport service providers. Once proven, violators will be meted with the corresponding fines and penalties.

Dumarami raw kasi ang nagaakala na hindi ito sakop ng batas, lalo na at may kumakalat na marketing materials na nagsasabing hindi na kailangan ang rehistro kapag bumili ng e-bike.

Takata Agrees to Guilty Plea, Will Pay $1B for Hiding Defect

Takata Corp. has agreed to plead guilty to a single criminal charge and will pay $1 billion in fines and restitution for a years-long scheme to conceal a deadly defect in its automotive air bag inflators.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Detroit announced the deal Friday, hours after it unsealed a six-count grand jury indictment against three former Takata executives who are accused of carrying out the scheme by falsifying and altering test reports that showed the inflators could rupture.

Takata inflators can explode with too much force, spewing shrapnel into drivers and passengers. At least 11 people have been killed in the U.S. and 16 worldwide because of the defect. More than 180 have been injured. The problem touched off the largest automotive recall in U.S. history covering 42 million vehicles and 69 million inflators. It will take years for the recalls to be completed.

"The risk that they allowed to happen is really reprehensible," said Barbara McQuade, the U.S. Attorney in Detroit, whose office worked on the two-year investigation.

Under the deal, Takata will pay a $25 million criminal fine, $125 million to individuals injured by the air bags and $850 million to automakers that purchased the inflators.
