gotta love DIY. have found myself gravitating to ace hardware every time we go to the mall. so far diy ko would be accessories for my guitars palang (hangers/cases/straps). wala pang major on my guitars themselves.
lets share instructables/plans etc.

Naisip ko lang. Another alternative is you may have simply drilled holes just inside the perimiter until you cut off the hole. Then take a flat bastard file and SLOWLY smoothen the edges until satisfied.

Till next time nalang. ;-)

Did this on my DIY cab's baffle.  I still needed to do some chisel work to clean up.  But for plastics and metal, I do it a lot for inside cutting without a router or power tools. :-D One thing to remember about files is it tends to round out the edges, since you must attack from the outside going in (if it so happens one accidentally runs that file towards a squared edge, it will tear out).

So my tip.  Always make allowances.  Don't use a file to walk up to the pencil line.  That's what the 60 grit sandpaper and sanding block is for.

Let me share a DIY project of mine...

http://pinoy-geartalk.com/showthread.php?3945-Les-Paul-Junior-Build

wow, this is the ultimate DIY!  Where did you get all those tools?  How did you start building guitars?  Na-decide mo lang to build a guitar, then bili na ng tools?  Or was it a slow development, guitar repair muna, then slowly acquire the tools, then later you gained confidence to build a guitar?

Lupet mo sir!

A veeeeery slow development, actually. Short condensed version: Tinkered with my guitar. Broke a few, fixed 'em, etc. Slowly acquired tools. Met people who DIY too (luckily). Bought power tools. The rest is history. ;-)

Question to those who have experience on strat/tele pickguards.

If I have an american standard (Strat and tele), will a replacement pickguard (that claims to be "fit" for fender) exactly fit?  I plan to order a new pickguard kasi from US and I won't be able to fit it, so wanted to make sure the screws will line up.  I read somewhere kasi before na pickguards never line up (or something to that effect).  Is this true?  Or depends where the pickguard is coming from?

Get your pickguard from www.wdmusic.com. They'll be asking for your guitar's exact specs, year, etc. so what you're getting would be a 99% direct fit.

Did the same for my MIM Standard strat. Got the pickguard and it was an exact drop in.  :-)

ah, so that's a good tip.  So then, it means that the pickguard holes in a particular MIM or MIA fender yr/model is standard.  So as long as I buy from a reputable source then I should be okay.  I got a lot of stuff too from WD music before, so I'm sure these are quality parts.

Hi mga DIYers!

May plano akong mag DIY ng Guitar eh, and after watching videos for a while in youtube napanood ko po yung

so naisip ko why not DIY??

May spare strat ako dito na pwede kong babuyin at paglaruan lol.

Options Questions:

http://www.warmoth.com/Gotoh-Twelve-String-Bridge-Chrome-P610C707.aspx
-LESS DIY :)

Pwede kayang butasan ko na lang yung Headstock para magfit ng another 6 Machine Heads? then change nut, then syempre bibili pa din neto:
http://www.warmoth.com/Gotoh-Twelve-String-Bridge-Chrome-P610C707.aspx
-MORE DIY >:D

what do ya guys think? Thanks!

yung addtional tuners  :)

@e-guitar: I suggest getting the new neck. A six-string neck will not have enough width to fit 12 strings that will have enought string spacing for playability.

though the real question is kakayanin kaya ng Normal Strat Neck yung tension ng 12 string?
siguro mas ok kung gawang luthier na lang yung neck kaso medyo magastos yun. tsaka less DIY.. though quality wise mas ok.

any other suggestions from other DIYers jan!?

This is an interesting mod, it looks like the example you showed is just using the standard squier neck.  Actually I would be more worried na almost konti na lang yung wood sa headstock because of all the routing.

This is what you can do for the mean time:  maybe you can check the string tension of 12gauge electric guitar on standard tuning and then compare that to .009 base gauge 12-string tension.  I know some use 0.12 gauge string in their electric and di naman bumibigay yung neck.  Sorry I haven't tried it so I'm not sure, but just sharing my thoughts as this could help.

by the way nakita ko na yung nasearch ko kagabi eto oh:

source:
http://guitarz.blogspot.com/2007/10/diy-stratocaster-12-string-im-impressed.html

Sana the guys modified the shape of the headstock and used opposite geared tuning pegs.
I have stated that there are more bad sounding suhrs then there are good ones.

Wala pang string tree. Masyadong pinilit IMO.

If you really want to DIY this, Here's how I would approach this: You can try drasttically modifying the heastock by plugging, cutting and grafting another piece of maple. Make sure you use dowels or better yet, biscuits to ensure stability of the bond. Glue a headplate veneer on to  add strength to the headstock. Shape, drill, install and rock!!!
