I partially agree with sir alex that tone smashes technique..

It's the reason why most of us suffer from gas.. it's that tone searching stuff that we want to reach even if we're not that skilled..
It's also the reason why that kid in PGT got swanget comments from the judges, "nasobrahan sa electric"..
The reason why most of us complain with sound engineers with how they mix and set the sound levels..
Typical novice way of setting up his/her tone, too much gain and treble on a solid state amp :lol: the result, ear-piercing ice pick highs :lol:

Having the ear for tone takes experience too, napansin ko sa mga students ko, oks naman mag-gitara but they tend to set-up a horrible tone.

Lahat, rock,pop,blues, etc. pero jazz at classical guitar ako graduate sa conservatory dito sa Netherlands. Bandcoaching and private lessons sa mga music school, this school year may mga turo na rin ako sa yamaha music school dito. :-D

The very best players makes you think of someone singing, so imagine, how can you listen to a singer/player if you can't stand his/her tone.

or she cant sing well..

thats why my vote is for tone and technique,
I have stated that there are more bad sounding suhrs then there are good ones

Of course, I don't think anyone can make anything sensible and worth listening to if it weren't for both.
