I think he's the most down to earth member of DT. He and Jordan were the only guys who bothered to sign my Octavarium CD. JP simply "snobbed" me.

JM was a real snob too.

As for their security measures for gigs, who do they think they are? Michael Jackson?

Portnoy is not the best prog drummer for me. But he does some interesting stuff once in a while. I prefer Virgil Donati, Bobby Rock and Atma Anur quite frankly. As for my drum gods, Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dennis Chambers, and Marco Minneman.

last month i bought virgil donati's drum video.. he's so cool.. dmi nyang alam na mga concepts in playing drums.. nweiz.. where did you meet JR and MP?..

last last week bumili ako ng cd ni MP.. yun Progressive Drum Concepts.. grbe gling niya.. pti nri yun mga lessons niya.. gsto ko dun yun mga Odd Time Signatures na pinag hatihati nya.. makakagwa ka din pla ng mga solo khit simpleng signatures lng..

dance of eternal...iba talaga si portnoy, some say parehas lang ang ginagawa niya bawat kanta and over-rated daw...but for me, having my portnoy gives you alot of musical angles. galing talaga. very inspiring...what practice and dedication brings to a musician. godbless kapatid.

Kung tutuusin, Mike Portnoy has bad technique. (no offense MP, and MP fans, I myself is a hardcore fan of MP)

However, Mike's own technique works for him. And look at him now... A world-class drummer, drumming icon, Hall of Famer...

Keith Moon was a much wilder drummer during his prime with The Who. But whatever he did behind the drumkit, it worked for The Who.

It's the music that counts.

idol to.. technically... npakawide ng drumming niya..
some peeps posted that he is redundant.. hindi naman e..
motiff un ng song nila.. anu magagawa mo?

magaling din xia sa time keeping from straight double basses
ng sixteenth note ang feel tapos shift siya to shuffle type..
sa dance of eternity ata un.. bsta galing.. tsaka napakatight
ng banda niya.. mismo.. kahit sabihin nating parang machine ung tugtug
pero technically magaling sila.. kanya kanyang trip lang yan..
i also like donati pero man wala nakong maintindihan sa moonbabies na

i think portnoy plays with and for his band.. to be really musical yet technically challenging...
not for insanity of technicalities na wala ka namang maintindihan na talaga....

It would be quite tough to bring in Mike Portnoy here in our country for a drum clinic, due to his hectic schedule (with Dream Theater & his numerous projects) and of logistical reasons (his monster drum setup). But that would be something, if ever it pushes through.

One helluva drummer! i'm a dream theater collector myself. btw, anyone seen the latest mike portnoy dvd "in constant motion"? 3 dvds, downloaded the whole thing (13gb) for 3 days straight, also planning to get an original copy soon from amazon.

Here's a short clip from the dvd:

ot lang: may bagong cd ang modern drummer ah, entitled "archives", lahat ng issues nandun, mula nung 1st issue. anyone who has a copy of the cd? nasa 200+ issues ata. saw the ad on the latest modern drummer mag that came yesterday.
