Saraduhan na nga yang edsa na yan. Dami arte.
Nung nagstrict cla sa yellow lane, hindi ba lalong mas na obvious na ang konti lang ng bus esp.provincial.  Private  v's ang lumalamon sa edsa hindi bus. Not for the common good ang mga padale.

I'm torn between the convenience of using my car and commuting going to work.

The first one is, as I said, convenient but expensive. Let's say it is around 11k-12k per month. That's inclusive of toll fees, parking fees, and gas. Add the would be expense for maintainance because of continuous mileage. I also get to chip away an hour or two for travel time.

Commuting via bus, jeep, UVX and habal habal saves a lot of money. That goes about less than 4k per month. The downside is the inconvenience brought by long queue lines in terminals, the kup@l entitled people you get to share the ride with, and sometimes the detour of buses trying to avoid apprehension that eventually leads to more travel time to my already @ssburning ride.

If you are in this dilemma, which option would you choose and why?

My gut feel says take the car but my finances is crying out loud, hurting.

take the car. yung sakit sa ulo mo sa commuting baka makaffect sa work performance mo pati sa wife mo.
main reason why I still prefer to live near the office. :(

Suggest ko lang sir, itry mo for like some weeks mag commute.

Or... sabi nga ni kras, magmotor nalang.

Go for the convenience of using your car.

Yung stress, travel time, and discomfort ng commuters sa Pilipinas... kung susumahin mo yun, pareho lang yun ng nag-commute ka at gumamit ng sasakyan mo.

Unlike other places that I've been into, pwede ka bike or commute kasi maganda ng public transport system... pero sa Pilipinas, ang dami ng transfer, hindi pa komportable from lalakaran, to queue, at mismong sasakyan mo.

Just do it efficiently nga lang din, efficient route to avoid traffic, on time maintenance ng sasakyan para iwas big repairs. Carpooling is also nice.

Hopefully you ain't using those gas guzzlers.

My hunch was right! Carmageddon ang EDSA dahil sa lindol. Looks like taking the car is my only choice for less stress to get to work.

@ralph and trem
At the back of my mind, I have the same things going on in my head. Thanks for the insights!

@yeney
I used to take the bus when I was located at Makati. One bus ride lang kasi nasa office na ko. But when the office moved to Silver City Pasig, dumami yung commute coming from Cavite.

New models. I’ve no idea of their aftersales services, parts availability, reliability, and cost of maintaining one, particularly the pickups.

If your plan is to get it brand new, service warranty is included after your purchase. change oil, service maintenance, etc. You can discuss that with your local dealer. If your plan is to get it second hand, some of the dealers of used cars offer services as well for the first few months.

Parts are everywhere since its Nissan. Maintenance cost can be a little overwhelming if you disregard small issues about your car that resulted to a bigger damage so be curious about everything you hear from the engine and everything that is happening while driving. Nissan cars, vans and trucks are pretty reliable. (Proven by many UV express and Grab drivers.) Gas mileage will depend on your way of driving and the distance of your route. My cousin owns a 2017 Navarra and mostly used to haul 700-1000 lbs of cement every now and then. (Contractor business)Still in service and pretty good shape.

Goodluck!

i disagree.

this only applies to old models(2005-ish below) at may stores lang na meron talaga stocks. the new or recent ones, kung di ka papaorder, sa casa ka mismo kukuha. consider its parts as rare commodity na malabo mong mahanap sa tabi tabi pag nasiraan ka.

kahit ask mo sa mga taxi drivers na old nissan at nissan almera ang minamaneho. they will say the same.

the only thing that stuck with me eh yung aircon daw talaga ng nissan. biro pa nung nasakyan ko dati "ang tibay ng aircon nito at very reliable. baka nga bumigay na makina nito, yung aircon mabebenta ko pang good condition na surplus!"

thanks, while the toyotas is the default choice i looked at the nissan models this time lang. they've nice offers, like konti nalang idadagdag  then you get a 4x4 with select switch instead of a 4x2 only within the same price range. i dunno, if i might need a 4wd, still weighing the options. were after reliability, functionality, cost of operation, availability of parts, quality of ride. not much for the resale value.

Guys, for those who know? How's owning a Nissan here in the Phil.?

owning a Nissan is expensive brother. first hand experience.
this was the exact reason I went from a Nissan SUV to a Toyota Sedan.

the maintenance costs will kill you as Nissan parts are priced significantly higher compared to its Toyota counter parts.
ganun din ang Honda, however Honda's after market 3rd party parts are more available so may choices ka.

what they say about Nissan's AC is true however. iba tlaga ang lamig ng AC ng Nissan. plus the comfort of driving a Nissan is different, mapa sedan or SUV it drives really great.

if maintenance costs would not be an issue, go for the Nissan.

@Ralph, noted thanks

let me give you a vote of confidence on the safety of the Navarra.

a friend of mine totaled his Navara a few months ago. as in totaled.literally wala nang masave sa sasakyan.
he got a way with a few bruises and cuts but that's about it.
