actually d3000 ang latest entry-level unit ng nikon (2009).. d40 i think 2006-2007 pa.. so it's probably safe to say na di pa sya maphaphase out.. :-D

either way, camera bodies really will, sooner or later, be replaced by newer and better models.. the best investment talaga is yung mga lenses..

salamat sir, medyo may pag asa pa pala ako.. (di sure ah) pero pag na phase out ang d3000, ang mga next price na susunod dun di ba nasa 35k up na? baka kasi di na pumayag si erpats pag ganun ka mahal..im still hoping by the time na maka grad ako,may d3000 pa sa saudi

n00b question:

Depende ba sa lens yung pwede ang high ISO setting na hindi grainy? Or sa body?

How do you mean, bro? Please expound further your question.  :-)

The ISO settings are not really related to the lens and body if you're talking about image grain/s. Regardless of the lens or camera, grains, especially on film, will occur on high ASA/ISOs, say 800 up. But then, the newer cameras (in my case, Canon) have lesser grains in high ISO settings. I shot an HD video using a 7D rated at 1600 ASA/ISO and was surprised to discover less grains.

I hope I answered it right, bro.

I'm seeing photos that were shot in a 3200-6400 ISO setting. I was wondering how it didn't become so grainy. Is it in the camera or the lens? The photos I saw were taken with a Canon EOS 30D.

Aaah... gets..  :-D Newer cameras have better chips than the old ones. I guess they (manufacturers) make better gear these days. Thanks.

@Paranoid - I think most new cameras have built in Noise Reduction for High ISO's. My D90 has one. That's why I can shoot with ISO 800 and up without any "Noise" or Grain.

iso = light sensitivity of the sensor.

the higher the iso, the more sensitive to light your sensor is. mas liliwanag pics mo

Yes. But the higher the ISO setting, the higher the noise you get.

another question.

ano yung differences between NEF(RAW) at JPEG files? in terms of quality, file size, etc. ? yung NEF/RAW ba na oopen sa ordinaryong image editor (microsoft photo manager /CS4/paint)

yung NEF/RAW ay yung pinaka "film" sa DSLR world.. basically kung ano yung narecord ng camera sensor mo, yun yung laman nung RAW.. with that said, kailangan mo pang i-process yung RAW files like apply white balance, apply contrast, sharpening, noise reduction, etc.. basically yan din ang ginagawa ng camera pag JPG ang format ng files mo, pag RAW nga lang ikaw mismo ang mag apply nung mga yun through software..

as for the quality, a RAW file in itself is rather plain.. kailangan mo talagang iprocess using a photo editor para makuha yung full potential nung file.. mas malaki din ang "head room" mo when editing RAW files kesa sa JPGs.. and since "RAW" ang laman nya, mas malaki talaga ang file size compared sa JPGs na may compression at optimizations na yung laman..

(haha anlabo ) i'm not good at analogies.. haha

anyway, while you can add or remove stuff from both color books, i would say a "JPG" color book would break easily (image noise) kung dagdagan mo or bawasan ng kulay.. whereas a "RAW" color book will have a higher level of tolerance pag nagdadagdag or nagbabawas ng kulay..

advantage lang sa JPG is if you got it right the first time, it's good to go thus, saving you a lot of time.. sa RAW kasi may processing ka pang gagawin.. imagine processing around 500+ frames in RAW.. tiyagaan! :-o

i shoot both RAW and JPEG.

JPEG for good lighting situations and RAW for low light so i can process noise better. and i like to have the idea of "shoot once, get it right the first time".

For me, it's Nikon. I don't know. A lot of friends have been saying that if you want quality professional pictures, get a Canon. Pro photographers (well, I only based this from my professors) use Canon. I too was a Canon user. Pero parang nahihirapan akong hanapin yung exposure na gusto ko sa kanya. When I borrowed my friends Nikon D5000, I instantly fell in-love with it. Ang dali hanapin yung exposure na gusto ko, plus yung colors nya very pleasing para sa eyes ko. Yung images ng Canon (kahit sa mga classmates ko) are bland. Hindi ko ma-appreciate. That's why I shifted to Nikon. Sa akin lang naman ito. I'm not saying that Nikon is the best, but Nikon satisfies what I am looking for.

+1 D5000 hahahahahahaha
