Title: Alto Sax Vs Tenor Sax
Post by: kultabashi on June 24, 2010, 12:03:44 AM
Mainly ive been an Alto Sax Player.  Ive been Playing for quite some time now for different show and wedding bands, a pop orchestra and in church.  The ALTO seems to be my weapon of choice.  With 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 reeds, Nagustuhan ko yung Sound niya when it comes to Contemporary SMOOTH Jazz, POP and its versatility when it comes to Praise and Worship songs.. I also used this With other woodwind/brass instruments alongside me eg:(Trumpet, ALTOSAX, Trombone/Tenorsax).  But i also noticed that at times, "MANIPIS" ang tunog ng ALTO, specially pag puro AMPLIFIED INSTRUMENTS Kasama ko.

Then... Due to Peer Influences from a number of Professional Player friends, In comes the TENOR SAX.

Ive been using the Tenor sax for a while, and it didn't take me much to get adjusted to it.  I use 3 and 3 1/2 reeds and now, after a few weeks,  im beginning to fall in love with this horn.  Although it takes MORE AIR to get it sounding as it should, once done, mas ROUGH yung tunog ng Tenor.  Perfect for BRASS BANDS, Mainstream JAZZ and ROCK and ROLL.  "BRUSKO" Ika nga yung tunog and the RANGE seems to fit perfectly with a Trumpet or trombone. Kahit 2 lang kayo, basta may TENOR SAX, ang kapal ng Tunog agad.  But im finding it a bit more challenging to tame myself to play this horn in a MELLOW Softer tone in such a way that it sounds less JAZZY, specially in church.  In other words, i cant seem to play it like i do my Alto.

Kayo mga ladies and Gentlemen? do any of you "DOUBLE" on Alto and Tenor?  if so, how do you go about it? When do you use your Tenor sax or Alto sax?

Ok, ive seen this topic In SOTW.  But i would like to hear from us PINOY Sax players.
