There are plenty of videos on www.drummerworld.com & on YouTube. It isn't hard-copy video, but at least it's still great reference.
You can also check out the websites of famous drummers. Some feature videos, just like on Virgil Donati's and Dom Famularo's websites. And we can download some videos free of charge.
Aren't we glad we're in the digital age? 8)

@ sir jun wla pa po akong vid na full length eh naka download ako dati ng back to basics ni dave weckl, then after that wala na kong nadownload pang iba... gs2 ko sna makadownload kahit yung getting started on drums ni tommy igoe and yung groove essentials waaaaaah gs2 ko tlga matuto
nkadownload na din ako sa vicfirth, drummerworld, etc etc... gs2 ko lang sna makanood ng full length video na instructional...

Most of the drum instructional DVDs produced by Hudson Music are very good and highly recommended.
Here's what I highly recommend from the Hudson Music library:
Steve Smith: Drumset Technique / History of The U.S. Beat Plenty of lessons on technique. A valuable reference on drumset history. Plus, loads of topnotch performances by Steve Smith's fusion group Vital Information. This video is drumming info overload. Great stuff!
Gregg Bissonette: Musical Drumming in Different Styles This is very useful for drummers of all levels and styles. Gives more emphasis on musicality.
Mike Portnoy: Liquid Drum Theater Not just for prog-rock lovers... Plenty of useful licks and lessons here from one of prog-rock's finest drummers. Double bass licks, playing with odd times, polyrhythms, fills, Portnoy signature patterns, etc.
I've seen these 3 videos in full, so I can testify on that. The other Hudson videos - I've watched some in full, I've already seen some excerpts of it online, and I've read great reviews and feedbacks. Most of the DVDs from Hudson are valuable.

Pwede bang pakopya na lang nitong dalawa?
Nakikopya lang ako ng Bissonette DVD e, ayos sa genres na sakop. Pati Big Band walang patawad haha!
Hinihintay ko sa mentor ko yung Billy Cobham video daw, pero nag-aalangan ako kung instructional ba yun o performance lang.

Billy Ward "Big Time" DVD niya. It's just not everyone's cup of tea. Medyo iba ang pag-iisip ni Billy Ward sa pag-approach niya sa drumming. Pero marami akong napulot mula sa DVD na ito.
Pati yung Advanced Funk Studies ni Rick Latham okay din. Tinuturo pa niya kung paano ipasok sa tugtugan ang mga rudiments.

Modern Approach to New Orleans Drumming by Stanton Moore- Supposing you have a good command on some of the basic rudiments (i.e.Single & double strokes,Paradiddles) this DVD is a good start to learn to improvise your own groove.It covers a wide range of World Music such as Samba,Funk,Guaguanco,etc. mixed with New Orleans' flavor.(intermediate to advance players)
That video (drumset techniques) by Steve Smith is the best I've seen so far.(basic to advance,..more on the Jazz type of playing)
Gregg Bissonett's "Musical drumming in different styles" is also a must for a serious drummer.-For Intermediate to advance level,covers almost any musical style.
Thomas Lang's "Creative Control" is for Advanced players...too technical!
I also have the "Next Step" video by Dave Weckl. but it's sort of a summary of everything. -beginner to advanced players.

i think its dave weckl's "Back to Basic"
sobrang informative kase.. tsaka hindi boring panoorin mula umpisa hanggang dulo para bang pag pinanood mo eh hindi ka forward ng forward hehehe... lahat tinuturo niyang maige. step by step. talagang lahat ng drummer magugustuhan to.. magaling talaga mag turo si weck'l... hindi siya madamot.

It's the first drum instructional DVD na napanood ko and until now yun pa rin ang video na napkuhanan ko ng napakaraming tips and tricks. si Bissonette kasi ay isang sikat na sessionista at lahat yata ng genre ng music ay napasok na niya. he shows how certain drum grooves/licks/techniques are interchangeable between genres.
basta, ang galing. hanggang ngayon binabalik-balikan ko pa rin.
mahilig lang talaga siya sa flams. heheheh..

Nakakatuwa yung natutunan mo pumalo ng Big Band, tapos Rock. Parang malayong talon pero hindi naman pala.
Hindi pa binabalik sakin yung DVD ko e, haha.

As much as possible, I try to watch every drum instructional video that I can lay my hands into. I even search on YouTube for excerpts and various lessons. I think every instructional video offers something special, and hopefully we can pick up something from it and integrate it into our drumming.
So far, the most valuable instructional video that I've ever watched is Steve Smith's Drumset Technique & History of the US Beat. It's a two-part DVD set and it's fully loaded --- lessons on technique, history of the drumset and modern/US music, excellent performances of Steve (solos) and his fusion group Vital Information, bonus behind-the-scene features... It's very inspirational and informative.

I agree! Dagdag ko na din yung "Take it to the street" Modern approach to New Orleans drumming ni Stanton Moore. Medyo maikli lang yung video pero nakakabusog! Madaming ideas na mapupulot dito na talagang magagamit mo,kasi ipapaliwanag nya yung basic stickings na pwede mo pang ma expand. Iba-ibang genre ang tinuro nya dito. Im sure hindi ka manghihinayang sa DVD na 'to!

Uy Jeva! Sori, bro ngayon ko lang napansin 'tong post mo, outdated na! Dyahi!
Anyway, hindi ako sure kung mas mura sa Tomlee kasi wala akong ibang napuntahan na music stores na pwede ko i-compare yung price maliban sa JB at Perfect pitch sa pinas na mas mahal ang benta. Pero madaming videos at books with CDs dun sa Tomlee, Tsim Sha Tsui branch. Sa Parson's Music din (Festivalwalk,Kowloontong) madami at pareho lang ng price compared sa Tomlee.
Well, i hope this would help some of you guys na nagbabalak bumili o magpabili ng mga instructional books o vids sa hongkong!

Kung makakadaan ka sa HK, sa Parson's Music, Festivalwalk sa Kowloontong may nakita akong package nun- DVD-book-CD in-one! Mas mura sya kesa bibili ka ng separate.
Yung mga lumang instructional DVDs ni Dave Weckl, special price din ang benta nila (DVD w/CD & book) mula nang maglabas ng bagong series si Weckl ng instructional na Natural Evolution.

Ok, since nacurious talaga ako sa kanya, e pinanood ko agad. Running time is about 2 hours. Do note that I am a newbie when it comes to drumming and I may not be describing the right way. What I will be mentioning hereafter are just my own view on how I saw it.
Basically Carter shows/tells his Style, influences, set up and how to play how he plays.
He demonstrates first either by doing it first in an overview way then followed by a video of one of heir actual performance with Matthews band, or it could be the other way around.
To cut it short, his method is a show and explain video. BUT, for me the explanation is too shallow. One reason is me being new. Di ko magets kung paano aapply since bago nga ako. I strongly believe, those who are intermediate will pick up a few tricks from here.
For me, it is TIPS video. Dun parina ako s groove essential.

So compared to Thomas Lang & Stanton Moore's videos na naka flash yung actual sticking pattern nung bawat tinuturo nya, yang kay Carter hindi?
Curious talaga ako kasi open-handed drummer ako, kaya lang ang mahal talaga nung video na yan sa hk. :| Tsk!

Di naman talaga drum demo, I think its for those who really knows how to drum already. Sample, a clip of his drumming, then he will discuss on the approach, then show it at actual speed/tempo, then again at a slower tempo.
Maybe its just me, since di ako marunong, di ko tuloy ma appreiate, kasi medyo advance ung palo for me, di ko kayang sundan? Lalo na pag 16 notes na.
I could guarantee though, that the groove he shows are COOL. I noticed he also love his Hats, tpos maganda rin mag fill, di masyadong OA.
Yun nga pala, he tackles those issue.
Kung maliit n file lng to, I could send it to you. Kayalng bro its 2GB per volume. 2 volumes kasi. Search ka sa Youtube, makikit amo dun, kaya lng intro lng yun.

Yung Tommy Igoe mo, may video ka din ba? Meron ako play-along CD lang saka book. Maganda din talaga, sulit na sulit! Gusto ko maka acquire nung video para maintindihan ko yung notations dun sa book. gud pm bros and sis, i have some drum cd instructionals... here are some titles that i think would help us learn more different styles and gain knowledge on drumming.
1. akira jimbo fujiyama---for drum trigerring---of course his great independence din. 2. larry fin---different styles from basic rock to afro cuban drumming (halo lahat na ng style nandito) also great for starters. the good thing in this video is that his lessons are divided to 3 levels: beginner,intermediate and advance section grooves and fills. 3. peter erskine---yamaha sponsor, great for jazz drumming 4. virgril donati power drumming---for speed,endurance and accuracy 5. steve smith drumset techniques---for jazz and groove 6. steve gadd up close---different rudiments and latin variations

cge bro...i'll try to watch it later tapos PM ko sayo...regarding carter's style...okz talaga, i love how he displaces his notes on a simple 4/4. with regards to ghis video under the table and drumming...yes most of its contents were their songs, how he played it,his influences, his open hand tech, but, he also discussed his approach in phrasings, syncopations... actually the video is somewhat of a lesson...but not the spoonfeeding type. very nice video.

The DVD im into now is In Constant Motion by Mike Portnoy (courtesy of Bam0120) :-D. Teaches you how to play DT music, which is very helpful for me of course since im in a DT cover band. Mike really does know how to teach. Easy to understand. Straightforward. Direct to the point :mrgreen:

im a working dad but i really dont wanna let go of the music..:) I'm currently helping my band in creating songs but still i need a lot of improvement with my drumming. medyo scripted pa kasi ako mag drums and i seem to be having problems with my using my pedal as well. i'd just like to ask you pros kung ano ba sa tingin niyo ang magandang videos na makakatulong saken sa mabilis na paraan dahil balak na namin magrecording early this year. :cry:

25th Anniversary Edition Advanced Funk Studies by Rick Latham
Eto one of the BEST DVDs na napanood ko. Very informative especially for funk and fusion drummers. Ang favorite ko dito yung mga examples ng fills. Yung ilan sa mga fills nya almost similiar dun sa mga fills ni mike portnoy. Best of all 2 videos in one DVD 'to: Advanced Funk Studies and Contemporary Drumset Techniques pinagsama kaya hindi bitin ang panonood nyo. Try nyo 'to mga guys. Sulit ang oras nyo. :wink:

I searched this on philmusic wala pa nag post so I'll post this for the benefit of all.
Hindi ko alam kung sikat 'tong DVD na 'to pero ayus na ayus sya especially sa mga phrasing techniques. Hosted by Pete Riley a UK drummer he demonstrated techniques like: hand to hand accenting, 6-stroke roll, odd grouping (compound sticking and hand/foot combination), double stops, single stroke rolls, double pedal application, open handed open hi-hats and inverted double strokes.
1hr DVD sya ok naman marami ka na din matututunan sa kanya. :-D

yan ata yung sa groove essentials 1.0, meron na ko nung pdf ng grooves, na-print ko na. kaso wala kong mahanap na transcriptions nung grooves ng 2.0 sa net e.

actually it IS boring. i can't sit through all 3 hours without dozing off. nakatulog nung gumawa siya ng mga linear rolls. haha. pero useful siya, wag mo lang panuorin ng derecho. hehehe.
critique ko lang, parang siniksik niya talaga lahat ng alam niya sa isang dvd, kaya parang ambilis ng ibang topics. at sana mas nag-focus siya sa technique niya especially foot technique. di man lang niya na-explain yung swivel thing niya. sinabi lang niya "just do a different motion". it's so vague because he doesn't say what this actually is. i'm with derek roddy on that instead of being too worried about technique and being on forums all day, just go practice and find out what works for you because technique comes naturally and that someone else's technique might not necessarily work for you. BUT, i, as a viewer, would still want to know what one of my favorite drummer's technique is because maybe i can incorporate it or try it out.
... but pirates can't complain, so i'll stfu now. :)
good dvd, but somewhat unfocused.
at least mas ok siya kesa dun sa dvd ni flo mounier. i only learned one thing on that dvd which is that the thing about blastbeats is that you can try anything, the important thing is the consistent snare sound. the rest of the dvd is him showing off by launching into solos and some exercises similar to virgil donati's.

After 6 years of hiatus from playing the drums, I eventually had the chance to see Johnny Rabb's 30 days to better hands instructional video... it's very helpful! It's like going back to the basics which I sometimes tend to set aside. Kasi yung mga nakukuha ko kasing linaw din ng orig (walang halong yabang 'to ha). Totoo mag download kna lang if I were you (i.e. kung alam mo kung saang site magda-download). Saka lang ako nabili ng orig kung wala talaga akong ma-download at kung gustong-gusto ko yung DVD pero since halos lahat naman nakukuha ko sa download so why buy an orig? diba?
Eh sobrang mahal ng mga Origs DVDs eh unless rich ka pero ako hindi rich eh.. heheh! Yung ibibili ko ng orig DVDs ibibili kna lang ng mga orig drum parts/accessories --- ang mga instructional videos puro pirata na lang lahat.
You don't need an orig kasi iisa at same lang din ang laman nun kahet tumagal yun ng 10-20 years... magsasawa ka din and at the same time matatambak lang sa room mo... sayang ang pera unless mai-benta mo agad sya pero hindi naman madali magbeta ng orig kasi madami nga pirata.. hehehe...

Nabili ko ang dvd ni Aaron Spears, drummer for Usher and American Idol tour. Two disc sya at ang 2nd disc ay interview w/ Jojo Meyer. First disc ay playing examples of different grooves: Gospel, Shuffle, Rock, Motown, Odd time etc. Nakakatuwa ang personality ng drummer na ito at down to earth.

i buy pirated dvds, i download torrents...but i always buy the original drum dvds kapag nagustuhan ko yung preview or nagustuhan ko yung nadownload ko. syempre gusto ko suportahan yung mga gumagawa nun para makagawa pa sila ng mga future dvds. i used to buy only orig drum dvds dati pero hindi naman lahat maganda at sa dami nila, parang paulit ulit na yung topic. kaya medyo selective na ko, i always buy what i think are great dvds.
mahal ang orig kasi unang una, ang liit lang ng market. if the producers lose their money from pirates, pano na masasatisfy yung hunger nating mga drummers in the future?
im a pirate too but it doesnt hurt to help pay something back even a little

minsan talaga kapag di ka full time na musiko di ma malalaman gano ka sakit ma pirata,ilang taon binuo ng mga yan sa pag hinang ng mga talento nila,pagod sa pag gawa ng mga videos na yan etc.. tapos nanakawin lang. para ka din nag ipon ng pambili ng mga drum gears mo tapos kinuha nalang sayo. marami dito mga hobby lang siguro pagiging musiko kaya ganun. nakakatawa pa yung iba pinirata lang naman yung mga videos kung angkinin pa yung mga torrent sites na napag kuhanan nila akala mo kanila :roll:
