A rather noob (?) question about toms and snare..
« on: April 28, 2011, 03:16:08 PM »
Ahm guys I have a question.
(BTW, I've just began drumming last year around March, had just basic drumming knowledge prior to that, guitar kasi talaga yung instrument ko)

Here is my drumset. (Stock pa lahat at the moment.)

So ung placement nung toms is yung usual na nakamount both sa bass drum, and yung snare+stand.

I've seen a lot of kits here na parang ung mid tom, andun nakamount sa place nun high tom.. tapos yung high tom.. nakafloat?
Nakasabit ba yun sa stand nun cymbal? Or merong parang bar na pinagkakabitan nya? And I've seen a kit na nakafloat yung snare. Walang stand.

OK. Here are the noob questions..

And if ever, anung tawag dun sa hardware para alam ko yung sasabihin ko sa music store pag bibilhin ko?

2. Sa "floating" snare? Paano yun?

No knowledge talaga about sa mga ganito. Ang alam ko lang pumalo ng 1,2 1,2 hehe. Salamat!

:)

* Gibraltar No Leg Snare Stand 9505NL
* Gibraltar SC-EA100 Extension Arm with grabber clamp
* Gibraltar SC-GRSMC or SC-GRSSMC Multi Clamp

I see. Grabber Clamp pala tawag dun. So basically (based dun sa assumption ko by looking at the pics you provided, thanks btw), pwede ko cya iclamp sa cymbal stand, maybe sa ilalim nung pihitan nung stand? (Yung pinipihit if gusto mo taasan or babaan un cymbal). Thanks bro.

Dun sa "floating" snare, I've seen a Yamaha kit (di ko matandaan model eh, kulay yellow cya, 4-piece), wala cyang rack pero nakafloat yung snare nya. Parang nakaattach dun sa gilid nung bass drum? May parang bakal cya na arm. Specialty hardware kaya yun and special bass drum lang un pwedeng gawing ganun? Kc if I look at my bass drum and if gusto ko ganun din, I think I'd have to drill some holes dun sa gilid ng bass drum (???).

Eto bro un pic pala. Yamaha Hipgig pala.

special feature ng hipgig yan since it's specifically made to be a compact setup altogether. for your current setup though, mas maganda kung "rack factory" style na lang ang gagawin mo, not just for the sake of having a floating snare stand but for the convenience of having better setup options as well. downside lang is magastos talaga. pero kung willing ka naman mag-modify ng set mo para mala-hipgig yung style pwede din naman! :-D

Ndi kaya macompromise yung bass drum? magkaron ng running-crack or ma-deform? Kc di ba snare ung madalas paluin hehe. And since nakakabit cya sa gilid nung bass drum, ayun, tension sa pagkakakabit and all that..

pls avoid text speak. thanks! :-D

possible na magka-issues yung bass drum kaya mas reco ko talaga yung gibraltar rack setup. If you don't mind me asking, do you necessarily need to have a floating snare stand vs a regular snare stand? kasi mahal talaga ang ganung setup. may alternative option though c/o vhinming:

I don't know if it's an acceptable reason, pero kasi nasisikipan ako pag may stand un snare hehe. My uncle gave me his old doublebass drum pedal. And pag ikinabit ko sa drumkit ko, parang ang sikip saka un parang bar na nagcoconnect nung dalawang pedals is halos nakadikit na dun sa bar nung snare stand. Hehe.

Hmm..

13" Tom + Snare Stand : What's you're take on this?
I've been playing around lately with my drumkit setup these past few days. Isang taon pa lang ako halos lumipat from guitar to drums.

If your real goal & comfort is to have free space in drums...
Mag "No Leg Snare Clamp Option", "No Leg Hi-Hat" or both...
Just read the details on what Sir Riff posted about Gibraltar...

There so many detailed options sa drum hardware set-up...
Just use your imagination on what you want to do to your kit...
I'd do the same if I had the budget for all those options...

ok din yung setup ng tom sa snare stand IMO kung yung bass drum mo is too big/tall for you to conveniently hit your tom if ever it's mounted sa mismong bass drum. some say it could improve the resonance, some just even go for it simply for the look. at the end of the day, as long as it makes your playing comfortable, then go for it!

Thanks boss! You've been really helpful. I'll make sure na mai-post ko dito yung kakahinatnan ng setup na ginagawa ko hehe. More power! :)

Brad, try mo tingnan ang setup ng ibang members dito specially yun may double pedals baka may makuha kang ideas.

A floating snare setup is not common for a personal drumkit. Personally, its "nice to have" pero not necessary.

Thanks for the link boss! I think ang problem for me is I prefer yung placement ng hats ko is not too far from the snare drum. So yung pedal board nung hi-hat stand is malapit dun sa sa feet nung snare stand ko. So I thought I'd find a way to "remove" the feet of the snare stand to free up yung space para maisingit ko yung slave pedal nung double bass pedals. It's coming along pretty well thanks to the ideas you guys are telling me. Thanks so much.

(I actually bought another bass drum to experiment on. I'll try to convert it like yung bassdrum nung Yamaha HipGig, yung may mount sa side for the "floating snare". If that doesn't work, I'll go with the "feetless" snare stand like dun sa picture na pinost ni boss riff.)

Try researching on that, HTH
