my slow fingers... how to shred?

Practice with a metronome. Build up the accuracy in hitting notes. Speed will follow.

- practice as often as you can
- don't give up

i can't shred but i'm doing those things i stated.

Speed will follow. Increase mo tempo once in a while, tapos try mo din ipush yung sarili mo into playing with a faster tempo than the usual mo na ginagamit.

panahon kailangan para makuha mo yun. hindi lang months but years. metronome is ok, pero dapat never mag papasma, kasi one reason ng pag buhol at nginig ng fingers eh.

A Metronome is a BIG help for me. Pero ngayon, hindi ko na masyadong ma-appreciate ang shred, ewan ko ba. Mas feel ko ang blues, parang mas may emotion kasi dun eh. IMO lang naman.

ako din...Influenced by a lot of blues players... I'm a shred stick slinging blues kid.   minsan, i use fast runs to add a bit of flavor lang to my improvs..

wag ka muna mag sweep, masyado pa advanced yun.

practice proper coordination lang. mag aral ka ng 3 note per string runs tapos iba-ibahin mo. kunyari 3 note per string pero quarter notes ang bilang instead of triplets. 

also look for the perfect pick, and the perfect picking angle for you.

youtube videos also help.

most of all, practice. 2-3 hours a day.

1. keep in mind the economy of motion
       
       - start slow
       - moving your hands faster wont allow you to play really really fast
       - precise movements para efficient
       - economy picking
       - less is more

2. remain calm and don't get carried away

      - remaining calm will allow you to make precise movements
      - play with the least amount of tension

3. take your pick

     - most players who are into shredding prefer picks that are very thick or those jazz picks.
     - the guitar string should conform to the movement of your pick, not the other way around

playing near the bridge will cause the strings to vibrate faster (which will slightly aid in playing fast) unlike playing near the neck which will make the strings vibrate wider

speed is only a side effect. practice accuracy and precision. establish your comfort zone first then practice outside it.
labo no don't worry dude, with the right amount of practice, you'll only get better.

speaking of jazz III picks...i saw and bought some picks on a store (di ko na lang banggitin baka may magalit) last year and para silang fake... like "cut outs" from a piece of plastic (parang sa laruan...rough edges). i asked kung bakit ganun. sabi nung nagtitinda kahit sila nagtataka. may nakabili ba sa inyo ng ganito? good thing i have one or two na reserba na nabili ko like 2-3 years ago.

o kaya practice ka.. slow and easy till bumilis din yan eventually.. but remember to practice the right technique, not just the need for speed..

from lessons i was taught the following things for efficient and fast picking:

-practice. muscle memory is key.
-dynamics. pay attention to how you pick and fret notes then practice the correct method for playing.
-study how your fretting hand plays notes and adjust so that you transition seamlessly from one note to the other or from one pattern to another if you are playing compound passages.
-play with a metronome and vary the speed so you ramp up in a given period of time.
