My Newbie experience (hope you can get more info from this)

Idol ko si Lars Ulrich ng Metallica pero I started as a guitar player in music (actually Pioano kasi bata palang ako gi-ne-GAY ata ako ng nanay ko eh!) ehhehehe.

After reaching my peak sa guitar, I then moved to Drums and idolize Lars Ulrich.

So I went Window-shopping and found 8K crappy drum set. This is fine with me (at first) pero I find it "wasting" 8K kung yun ang bibilin ko. So I increase my budget and ended sa DDRUM na worth 26K.

During setting up, naBASAG yung lock nung Floor TOM  :| . So the following day, sinabi ko sa JB at papalitan daw nila. pero they also told me na "Sir next time dahan dahan lang po ang pag lock para di mabasag yung iba".

So binigyan nila ako ng replacement which is DIFFERENT COLOR and MADE  :-o. So I find it "NOT ACCEPTABLE". After discussing it with JB people. I then decided to change to "Pearl Forum". naging 32K na hehehe.. Pero wala akong trouble sa hardware and it sounded better sa DDRUM.

Yung DDRUM ko is Standard Set while yung Pearl forum is Fusion Set. This is why I told you before, try mo muna yung 2 set and then decided. (which I decided to get Fusion set).

OK, now that I have my set, PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE hanggang naka buo na ako ng mga favorite songs ko. hehehe. At since nagimprove na yung drumming skills ko (thanks to YouTube and the movies I got from there). Gusto ko i-upgrade yung set ko.

So I got the following;
1) Gibraltar Double-pedal
2) HiHat Drop Clutch
3) Change my skins to REMO PINSTRIP and Emperor X for the snare.
4) Bought 12" K Splash, 14" & 18" China, 14" ZBT Crash and 16" A Custom medium crash.
5) Extra cymbal stands.

Moreover, when I bought the splash cymbal. 1st I bought the 10" A Custom splash. Kinabukasan sinoli at pinapalitan ko ng K 12"kasi hindi ko type yung tunog sa JB. Which the good people in JB accepted din.  :-D

Now I am playing more complicated pieces like TOTO, old school heavy metal like Metallica Megadeth, etc.,

Now I am looking for a 16" Floor tom para mahaba haba ang rolling at mas heavy (kung kailangan) ang tom beats.

Moral of my story is..

1) Stay away from crappy items and always compare the prices with New and 2nd hand items. kasi kung konti lang ang difference eh sa New kana. May WARRANTY PA!

And in the first place, ask your self..  BAKIT BINEBENTA YUNG 2nd hand?
A) maybe may mas maganda sa market?
B) Maybe hindi nagustuhan nung unang mayari.
C) Maybe may damage na.
D) etc etc...

2) Buy using your ear or how you feel. Hwag yung sa TINGIN lang! Music is listening not looking right?!  :-D

3) Go for GOOD or HIGH Quality items. kasi kung mag sawa ka or plano mo nang ibenta.

Hope this helps and let me know kung kelan kita sasamahan ah!  hehehe :-D

---> NOSEBLEED!  :lol:

di ko naintindihan ibang specs/terms na sinabi mo, di bali malalaman ko lahat yan in time.

btw, guys ano ibig sabihin ng 5pcs with hardware? tnx

Heheh, granted, medyo nosebleed nga siguro yung mga sinabi ni sir paeng, pero sort it out and read through it. It's good advice. :-D

Hardware refers to the mounting equipment and other stuff (i.e. malalaking piraso ng bakal) you need to put the drumkit together and start playing! (Except cymbals hahah)

A standard 5-pc drumset with hardware means:
Five actual drums:
-Snare drum
-Three toms (commonly 12", 13", and 16" -or- 10", 12", and 14")
-One bass drum

Hardware:
-Snare stand
-Bass Pedal
-Tom holder/s
-Hi-hat stand
-Straight or boom cymbal stand/s

If you happen to see something labled as "5-piece shell pack" though, no hardware is included. Just the drums.

Sorry sa Nose bleed post ko!

Anyways, I went last night sa JB Mega and found they have Pearl Target Under 20K color maroonish. nice yun. (yan ah! kina-kanvas na kita!  :-D)

If you happen to drop by sa JB Music Megamall, look for Nelson (the drum doctor) and tell him na "GF" kita!  :-D  or Good Friend

Don't worry, I will look sa AudioPhile Pioneer branch at sa Yamaha Megamall.

Well, usually wala talagang kasama - pero may stock brass (low-end) cymbals lang in the case of Pearl and Tama Imperialstars. But I've seen JB, Yupangco, and Forerunner package cymbal sets as a sort of "promo". See for yourself when you visit the stores. For example: (sa JB, in their big yellow info tags)

Gretsch Blackhawk 5-pc Set w/ hardware plus FREE ZBT Pro 4 4-pc cymbals. Reg price: 45,000 Sale price: 38,000
(sample lang yung prices)

Ayun, they "package" some of their drums with entry-level cymbal packs. By the way, these packs come in "three-piece" and "four-piece". Three-piece means you have Hi-Hats, and a Crash-Ride. Four-Piece means you have Hi-hats, a separate Crash, and a separate Ride.

If I were you though, I'd inquire about drumset prices without cymbal packs - so I can buy the cymbals separately. :-D

Guys I need help here. I want to buy a drumset, cymbalset and accessories. I have a budget of 60k for all of them. I also want to include a splash, china, doublepeds and extra hardwares (for the splash and china). What brand can you guys recommend? My musical styles are rock and progressive rock. Please advise. Thanks!   :-D

// COPY-PASTE from the other thread //

sa 60K budget..

Pwede ka mag gretch, pearl, tama, Ludwig etc. Pero consider mo muna to.

1) Cymbals < mahal to at baka mawalan ka nang budget for this babies.
2) Skins or bater heads. (yung mga nasa new drums kasi 1 ply lang, pag narinig mo yung mga pinstipe ma papawow ka men.).
3) double-kick or twin-pedal. < mga 7k to 8K din to. iba na kasi yung may ABANG na double-kick sa single kick eh. Kasi less than a year (for newbies) magsasawa ka sa single kick at hahanap ka din ng double-kick.
4) THRONE - a good throne like gibralter cost about 3K. Men importante ito kahit sinong drummer will agree.

So given all those things and with 60K budget, i'd go for...
1) ludwig(birch)  8,12,13,16 toms with conversion kit this is under 40K sa JB with ZBT cymbals na to.
2) Buy double-kick na gibraltar (mga 7K to 8K).
3) Gibraltar throne (3K).
4) Zildian K 12" Splash + gibraltar boom (mga 7K itong 2)
5) sukli pang PEGASUS (kasi konti nalang eh) hehehe..

That is my best estimate for the "PRESENTLY" available drum sets sa JB. AudioPhile madami ding TAMA.

Sa set na yan, you can play almost anything (metal, pop, rock, jazz, etc). MA-AARAWS KA (hhehe).. Yung double-kick... well dagdag sa SKILL mo yan..
