Photography Paranoia sa Pinas: Your thoughts?
« on: April 13, 2012, 04:29:23 PM »
Its funny how many people are waaay to paranoid of taking photos in the Philippines..aside from that kahit naman magphotowalk ka magisa with your precious camera exposed..sigurado..may magtatangkang nakawin yan sa iyo..

did you ever feel safe taking photos sa Pinas? Most places when guards see you shooting interesting things..they would stop you and say..BAWAL at Kailangan ng Permit..even wedding photos kailangang may corkage sa public places..Pahirapan talaga magshoot ng matiwasay dyan ..comapred with outher cities around Asia kahit ASEAN..madaming KJ sa Pinas..dont you think? tsaka bakit pag may nakasabit na DSLR tingin ng ibang tao..mayabang, or maporma..ano bang paki nila di ba? in most of the countries I have been to...even in China//.nobody cares, and you can shoot in absolute bliss...hours of photowalking and exploring is such a joy...

"I got pissed when I was admiring Botong Francsicos Murals at the PGH Lobby I decided to take a shot , lo behold, here comes mr security guard..SER <SER! BAWAL YAN! KAILANGAN NG PERMIT!!"...I mean duh?!?! wala naman akong tripod or flash..and di ba nila alam para mapromote ang Philippine art kasi pwede ipost ng mga tao sa FB or FLicker..langhiya..I just visited the NATIONAL MUSEUM OF CHINA and you can take photos of every thing..as long as you dont use flash or a tripod..even classic paintings of the Communist Era...rare jade pieces..books..folk art..sculptures...etc....

Dito you would see parks and nice places bustling with soon to be married couples having their prenups ALL FOR FREE! I even heard about this DSLR Corkage when you visit some provincial scenic spot...2000 pesos per DSLR daw if you want to shoot..OMG!?!? pati yung LUNETA park incident...kailangan pa maglabas ng memo..just to tell people na the park is FREE TO ENJOY ?!?!?!

Why is this the case? culture? Security? or just plain distrust in Society....

Kung NOKOR tayo I would understand..pero...di ba?!?

Your thoughts..

That “No Photography Allowed” Policy
This has happened to me and friends on many occasions and I know a lot of you have experienced this too but what’s with the “No Photography Allowed” policy in a lot of malls, parks and streets nowadays?

You can’t go around GreenBelt and shoot pictures without being confronted by security. We used to walk the streets of The Fort and take pictures but immediately be stopped by roaming guards asking for permit. Stroll around Salcedo park and taking photos is also a no-no.

Early today, we went around the Mall of Asia open grounds to take pictures of debris and fallen trees and we were stopped by roving guards asking us to delete all the photos we took.

I know it’s private property and they got all the right what they want visitors to do or not do. Besides, most of the time, it’s the huge dSLR-type of cameras they don’t normally allow.

Nevertheless, I kinda think Metro Manila is not very photographer-friendly (or tourist-friendly, for that matter) city.

So aside from getting that customary permit, others resort to some sort of guerrilla tactics:

Bringing sub-compact cameras that are not as conspicuous as dSLRs but take almost the same photo quality.
Bring a second empty flash/SD card and swap it with the original just before the security comes up to you and ask you to delete the photos. You can always tell them you’re shooting blanks.
Hit and run. Take photos as fast as you can and move around the area to avoid being spotted.
What do you usually do when you’re in this situation?

it's more fun in the Philippines.

i dont see signs here anywhere in manila. siguro kung may sign, hindi na masyado sasama ang loob ng photographer kung bawal. malls are still privately owned so owners have the right to prevent you from taking pictures.

IMO, it only becomes stupid when you are not allowed to take pictures in public parks and national landmarks. then again, makakapagbigay ba kayo ng ganitong location na sa manila na exceptional for photography? exceptionally beautiful ha, wag naman exceptionally depressing.

exceptionally beautiful ha

hmmmm..sadly yung mga exceptionally beautiful ay exceptionally forgotten at left to rot...

 Heritage Architecture could be one....

parks and scenic Manila SPots..uhhm di naman gaanong exceptional...may post nga si Paulo Alcazaren na usualy mga monuments and public art ay naka-fence..para di mavandalize.. actually I checked out the Boyscout rotunda sa may morato/timog and puro feces ng tao (vagrants siguro) ..tsk..

pero seriously...madami akong nakitang sky around..pero nothing beats the PHILIPPINE SKY..in fairness..swak na swak siya sa panlasa ko...

hmmmm ano pa ba ang exceptionaly beautiful sa Manila? hmmmm...kasi usually artificial na eh...and kahit CBD's and modern highrises..Isnt that impressive compared to the Singapore Skyline, Tokyo, Shanghai...buti nga Malaysia may Petronas eh..hahaha

As long as wala silang ginagawang masama.
