Title: MEINL Cymbals and Products thread

have you ever tried it, share naman. maganda din ba tumunog? and also n terms of quality?

what model of meinl cymbals will you prefer in terms of good sound, heavy duty, and quality, lalo na don sa mga hard hitter ok ba sya??

I own a meinl 10" Sterling nickelsilver splash that I regularly use. So far durable sya. I've broken many of my splashes a 12" A custom and a 8" K splash pero so far itong meinl ang tumagal sa akin. Sa sound hindi naman sila nagkakalayo ng tunog but yun price at durability mas nagustuhan ko yun meinl. I bought it in bangkok at 900 baht 4 years ago. Mga P1000 din yun at that time.

talaga,  :shock: mukang mahirap makahanap n klase ng meinl cymbals na katulad sayo, karamihan kasi dito na nkikita kong meinl cymbals e mga low class parang madaling mapunit,

naka try ako ng meinl cymbals sa dubai. naghahanap kasi ako ng china cymbals dun sa music store then nakita ko may 18" na meinl china. grabe nung hinawakan ko napaka nipis at kung pipilitin ko eh matutupi ko kasi napaka nipis ng bakal. hindi ko na tinesting baka mapunit ko pa ng wala sa oras.

kahit nung napunta akong brunei may nakita din akong meinl pero ganun din napangitan ako.

Yung mga Meinl sa Lyric are Headliners, I think. They're made of brass (sabi sa Meinl website). I'm guessing they're as brittle as Planet Zs.

sabi nila.. asa main na daw yung mga high end cymbals...

napa visit kasi ako non sa lyric megamall.... napalo ko yung pdp nila and meinl na starter not sure with series.

This is from a friend of mine, imported from Germany

MEINL Raker Soundwave Series Hi-Hats.
-MEINL Raker series cymbals feature cutting, voluminous and explosive sound. They're the perfect cymbals for drummers who dominantly express themselves in loud and powerful music. They unfold at high energy levels with enormous power, projection and bright, sharp sounds.

Made from B8 Alloy

Soundwave kasi, if you look at the bottom hat, wave type ung looks nya.  Para di suffocated ung hats pag closed.

Kung meron EQ'd na snare, this is the EQ'd hats.

Makapal sya, not like the Headliner series.  Kasing kapal ng Sabian B8.

For me kasi kinompare ko sa tunog ng Sabian B8, mas nagagandahan ako sa tunog nito.  Very cutting ung chick sound pag closed and malakas pag opened.

To tell you the truth kapag nag rhythm ako sa hats with my left foot while my right hand is hitting the SABIAN B8 ride, tabon ung tunog ng ride e. Numinipis ung ride ng B8 sa MEINL hats na ito.  (just my observation lang po)

This is the old issues of MEINL, kasi orange pa ung color nung logo nila, yung mga issue today is black na ung logo.  And medyo me pagkakaiba rin sa hammering ng top hats.

Sana me lumabas na mga newer versions ng MEINL dito sa atin.

Mga bro... since Germany ang origin ng Meinl...halos parehas natin sila sa language... Kung anong sulat... syang basa... So I'm assuming the right one is MEYN-eL

Ang Paiste naman... Swiss origin...Switzerland has 4 major Languages German, French & Italian dependent sang region ka naroon. They got english as their 2nd/3rd Language... So medyo mahirap din na debate ang pronounciation nyan.

like most cymbal brands, meron din silang high and low end cymbals.
i don't own any meinls pero i got a chance to play some and very comparable sa mga sikat (sabian, zildjian, paiste) na cymbal brands and meinl. it depends on your taste. mas non-traditional, in my opinion, ang meinl sa pag-iisip ng mga iba't-ibang kinds ng cymbals. especially with their generation x line of cymbals.

they even have a drumbal cymbal for use on top of any drum. it sound good on its own, it sound killer pag pinatong sa batter head ng toms or snare drum.

i wish magpasok pa ng mas maraming meinl cymbals ang lyric. sana lahat ng cymbal lines ng meinl mapasok nila.

oi mark.. oo nga mahirap maghanap ng cast na sabian at zildjian sa dubai.. nakakakita din ako madalas ng meinl sa dubai kaso puro entry level lang din pangit kubaga.. pero try mo sa deira may isang store dun na puro set ng meinl.. parang may cast na set dun eh..

try mo din dito sa nakita kong store..
diba emerates tower => tapat nun may building (office ng erpat ko) => tapos may katabing building yon sa left side. pasukin mo yun ask mo saan music store dun.. daming cymbals dun. ang alam ko may stanbul pa nga doon.

hindi nga lang zildjian o sabian tinda jan.. mga di ko alam ang tatak pero mga cast naman..

request lang pag napunta ka jan paki picturan.. at paki tandaan kung ano tatak ng mga cymbals...

Lyric sells Meinl Amun cymbals here... second to Byzance un... pero splash lang nakita ko... tapos tingi mo mabibili... diko lang alam kung may crash, ride etc.... (sama na ng tingin sakin nung babae nung kinakalkal ko ung mga nakabalot sa plastic eh...  :lol:ehehehehe)

i read somewhere before that some meinls are imported from turkey and italy while some are made in germany. byzance are the turkish style cymbals. amuns are high end b8 much like paiste's 2002 line.

listening to recordings and sound clips, parang sala sa init sala sa lamig ang meinls. their cymbals are either too bright or too dark but mostly bright.

kung ako ang bibili at kung yan lang ang choices, none of the above.

bibili na lang ako ng isang napakagandang hihat muna. tapos mag iipon ulit ako para makabili ng ride kahit na isang taon pa abutin nun. tapos ipon ulit para sa crash. basta gusto ko lahat maganda kahit na matagalan ako.

pero syempre, ikaw ang bibili kaya kung san ka masaya suportahan taka. pare pareho lang naman sila at balang araw ay papalitan mo rin so take your pick

ok ang tunog ng power ride na mb20...yung kay chris adler! but haven't tried it...based on my experience, gusto ko yung tunog ng generation x filter china tska safari crash nila. ok yung "white noise". pero yung mga available dito sa atin...di ko sure but according to some drummers, pinaka maganda na raw yung Amun...but it's b8 bronze. yung casted nila wala pa rito, siguro pag dating nila raab at bitnner sa sept. for sure meron na yun, kasi yun ang endorse nila. :-)

I went window shopping yesterday at the music stores around Araneta Center.  I dropped by Lyric, and it was my first time to see Meinl's Generation X cymbals.  In particular, I saw on display the "Tom's Becken" series, which are Thomas Lang's signature cymbals.

Aesthetics-wise, these cymbals look attractive and modern.  I haven't tested it though.  Right now, I'm watching and listening to Thomas Lang's videos, and I searched for my Modern Drummer issues with the Thomas Lang feature and the Tom's Becken product reviews.  I'm listening carefully to these cymbals.

So far, I understand that these cymbal models are contemporary models which are designed to simulate electronic cymbal samples.  And according to the MD review, these cymbals have a "soft" feel, and it would work well on recording studios and small venues.

The cymbals are sold as 3-piece sets (see package configurations at http://www.meinlcymbals.com/generation_x/toms), at a store price of around 16K pesos.  I think this isn't so bad for a trio of special professional-model crashes and China.

Anybody here with first-hand experiences with these Generation X Thomas Lang cymbals?  I just got really curious.

based on the description, the crashes probably sound like the hhxtreme crash...quick decay, trashy. kung ganun nga, sulit talaga sa 16K. i've used an hhxtreme crash a couple of times. it doesn't sound like a crash...too trashy. but, imho, it could be a substitute to a crash, unlike a china cymbal na meron lang talagang situations na puede pag gamitan. my only concern with the meinl crashes is the rippled edges...this might make the cymbals more prone to cracks.
 
passed by lyric too  :-)  they also have the byzance line already, which i believe is meinl's equivalent of zildjian's K series. meron silang byzance fast hats. the one with the vented top (yes, top  :-o ) cymbal meron din  medium hats. 17.5K yung 14". meron din silang 10 inch hats...which are around 12K. pero according to the sales person, meron pa daw discount.
nice to see na medyo madami na din tayong options sa cymbals. we are no longer limited to zildjians and sabians  :-)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, jckazs.  Have you tried/tested these actual cymbals?  Anyway, for my personal taste and for my band's style of music, crashes with a hint of trashy qualities are quite appealing to me.  I actually like Sabian's HHXtreme Crashes.  If I were to use Sabians, I would love to have those cymbals in my setup.

The rippled edges are an integral part of the cymbal's design, as it helps make the crashes decay faster.  Yeah, durability can be an issue.  These cymbals are definitely on the thinner side.  I even found an online comment, saying that the Filter China cracked after a month.  Anyway, the drummer who commented is a heavy metal/thrash drummer, so he must be a hard hitter.  I was also watching Thomas Lang's videos.  He's quite a forceful drummer too, but with a more graceful touch.

For its price, I also think that the cymbal set is a pretty good deal.  One thing I'm thinking of is, can it really cut through on live situations?  This will surely work on small venues.  But I don't think it will cut through on bigger venues.

The 14" Filter China looks great and attractive, and judged from Thomas Lang's videos, for me it sounds really great.  If only Lyric can sell those as individual pieces (not as part of a set).

i own a set of meinl classics. medium hihats, crash, and ride. bargain price ko siya nakuha kasi may bag na at cast bronze pa yung cymbals. ang kinis at intact pa yung logos kahit 2nd hand. dapat sana sabian b8 yung bibilhin ko, buti nalang nahanap ko to.

sound wise, i'm very satisfied with these. medium bright to bright yung sounds niya with a little bit of dark overtones. in particular, the hihats and the ride are the best. i really love the ride's bell; it has a very nice ping that cuts through almost anything. it reminds of the 8" bell that jason bittner uses. pati yung bell/ride na gamit ni chris adler. ayos.

sayang lang talaga, carrier ng meinl dito yung lyric. di sila marunong magmarket, which products to import, etc.

Haven't tried meinls yet. have heard the samples though on the site...oo sir, ganda talaga ng tunog ng hhxtreme crash. nasa wishlist ko actually yun hehe
tama kayo sir. It's all about playing style and application. hindi talaga tatagal thin crash sa hard hitters at kung gagamitin sa metal music.
sulit talga sa 16K. If that's the price listed on the tag, try to ask for a discount. ganun ginawa ko nung tinanong ko yung prices ng byzance. una 5% off...tapos nung tinanong ko ulit, baka daw madagdagan pa yung discount  :-)

Just give the crew from Lyric their chance.  Maybe they're still studying the market, or in the process of building up stocks, or planning for something in the future.  And they're still quite "new" in the drum and cymbal product marketing and distribution biz.   8-)

mga sir share ko lng.. nung 1994 my pinadala sa aking meinl rakes from germany 16" lightning crash, at 10" splash.. para sa akin super high end talaga, marami din na sound tech nagsasabi sa kin na sa halos lahat ng crash na narinig nila ung cymbals ko ung isa sa pinakamagandan na narinig daw nila..tumagal din skin ng 9 yrs ung cymbals na un..dumaan na sa rock days, punk and umabot pa hangang mag variety na ako.. bumagsak lng kaya ngkaroon na ng crack.. na try ko din ung mga meinl na tinda sa lyrics.. ang layo talaga ng tunog.. siguro kelangan lng na upgrade na nila mga stock nila, para makilala naman d2 ung mga talagang maganda ng meinl..

mga tsong i'm using meinl mcs cymbal set.... ung bago ng mcs ha kasi yung luma eh medyo di ko gusto yung tunog.... 
        B8 Alloy
   92% Copper
   8% Tin cya made off pareho ng b8 ng sabian pero mas ok para sakin ung tunog nya kahit sa b8 pro, parang inimprove nila, made for alternative and rock players....
sarap nya gamitin and so affordable... 16k ung isang set wala nga lang cymbal bag, nagpurchase lang ako ng isa 2990 ata yung price pero astig yung cymbal case nila... try nyo mga bro, enyways pwede mu naman itesting dun eh....

sa lyric mejo pricey po sila pero worth the money naman po. i got my splash at 5k, my filter china at 7k+ and the byzance crash is 15k. para sa akin mejo fair pricing naman po ito.

meinl cymbals are for personal use only... superb pagdating sa sound pero ung tibay nya ndi pangpublic use.. pwera na lang kung kuha ka sir ng mb10, mb20 series un sir matibay un designed for hardhitters... pero taga ang price, mb10 costs 35k ata isang set...

hello guys...add ko lang po yung product ng Meinl na cymbal bag...opo may kamahalan siya at almost 3k...pero sobra ganda ng bag na ito...well padded it can accomodate  1 ride, 2 crashes, 1 china, 1 pair of hats and 2 splashes.

For further references, check out Meinl artists such as Thomas Lang, Johnny Rabb & Derek Roddy.  They have some of those Gen. X models in their setups.

Hi guys! Just came from Malaysia. Naghanap ako ng crash cymbals since napunit na yung Avedis na thin crash ko  :cry: I saw yung headliner na crash, mga 3k lumalabas kaso bitin ang sound ala masyado decay. I purchased yung 16" na HCS crash mga 3.5k. Ok naman pero syempre hindi kasing ganda ng Avedis ko. Final verdict ko for 3.5k ok na sya. Hope this helps.  :-)

Brass is always used for student/entry-level pies. Sabian Solar, Zildjian Planet Z, Paiste 101s and PST3 - these are the cheapest, and are meant simply for practice. They lack the tonal qualities of good bronze.

If you're seriously looking to further your craft as a drummer, get bronze cymbals. Cymbals aren't cheap, but hey, they're a very worthy investment. When going for Zildjians and Sabians, Cast Bronze models (K's, A's, AA's, HH's, etc) are usually better as opposed to Sheet Bronze (ZBT, ZXT, B8, B8pro) but with Paiste, the issue is slightly different.

So ayun, know the sound you're looking for, and aim for a model that'll give you that sound. Usually, rock/metal drummers look for bright and cutting cymbals. Jazz look for softer ones with complex overtones.

Meinl RIDE user ako. Classics 20". Nakapalo na ako ng B8 ride ng Sabian. and i can say mas kuntento ako sa Meinl kesa sa B8. Kumbaga same line siya ng B8, pero quality nya mas ok, mas sulet. Ganda ng bell nya at buong-buo yung tunog somewhat. Ok na toh for intermediate at gusto ko makagamit ng medyo "kakaiba" sa normal sabian at zildjian.

Yun lang, gusto ko matry mga high-end cymbals ng meinl kasi ang ganda pakinggan dun sa site nila. Puro Beg->Intermediate level ng cymbals lang kasi available dito sa Pinas kaya di masyado nabibigyan ng pansin.(though may nakita ata ako sa SM north edsa, sa lyrics na may pagka high-end). And hindi gaano bulsa-friendly yung presyo ng mga high-end nila. ayun lang. =P

merun nang mgagandang meinl dito kahit sa sm bacoor lng.. hahaha.. nkita ko mb10, generation x, etc.. pero kung wala yung gusto niyo, pwede nman daw nila ipa order sa warehouse.. kasi nghhnap ako non ng mb20 pure metal ride at byzance traditional china..

ako nagpapasalamat ako dahil meron ako Meinl na MB20 21" heavy ride ganyan nga ang price nun nung nagcheck ako sa lyric. Pero yung sakin alam nyo naman kung san galing yun binigay lang ni jason bittner skin ng shadows fall. weeeeee!!!! weeeeee!!!!

meinl's endorser list is so awesome. meinl probably has the best metal endorsers out of all cymbal companies. cephalic carnage, mastodon, derek roddy, shadows fall, etc etc...

sana isang araw magkaron ng matinong distro ang meinl na hindi taga ang presyo.

siguro kung yung hhx jazz cocompare sa meinl, yung byzance jazz nila katapat.. hehe.. sa sabian AA naman, siguro, siguro mb10 series. kaso iba padin. parang lahat kasi ng meinl cymbals, kasama sa character nila yung pagiging glassy ang tunog. npansin ko lang sa lahat ng tugtog nila idol. hehe. opinyon lang.

May tip ako sa inyo pagdating sa pagbili ng Meinl cymbals sa Lyric: yung mga nasa display so far kasi, yun yung mga ginawang mahal ang price, kaya na-stereotype ang Meinl brand locally. Mapapisip ang karamihan agad ng  "ang mahal ng benta nito sa Lyric!"

Actually, nung nakita ko ang ng inventory list namin dito sa main branch, nakita ko na yung presyo ng other Meinl cymbals dito ay kapareho lang ng presyo ng ibang ok na brands! Lalo na yung mga odd-sized. At isa pa, ang daming cymbals na high-end! Gusto ko nga ibida sa display yung iba dito e.

dark looking and sounding yung isa. trip na trip ko ung ganung tunog at itsura. Tapos fan ako ng sound caster series and gusto ko ung tunog ng mga trash/ozone style na crashes.. ayos.. he hehe... makahanap nga ng sound samples :-)

I have tried playing all the Meinl cymbal lines when I was at the Shanghai music convention (Asian version of NAMM show). at first I was actually surprised because Meinl is a little bit expensive than Zildjian cymbals. But when I tried playing them I was even more surprised of how they sound. Oh how do I explain this??? maybe the best explanation is "it's so Europe" which is a good thing, good thing because it is so different from the "nakasanayan" na Zildjian and Sabian cymbals. Parang European cars lang yan men! you can't compare it to Japanese cars. Since then I sold all my Zildjian cymbals and I shifted Meinl. But I'm still waiting for the dry and extra dry series. They are F*** insane cymbals! Ang ganda ng tunog men! Goodness gracious!!!!! Paging Lyric... Pls order these cymbals.. I can't wait anymore. Thanks!

you can't go wrong with meinl's MB20 line, sir. soundcaster customs, i think, are also good for loud music as they sound glassy and cutting. well, at least dun sa mga na-try ko. pwede mo ring abangan yung bagong Classics Custom Extreme Metal series. bago lang nilang labas 'tong line na 'to, ewan ko lang kung kelan dadating dito satin.

i think meinl is a great brand. if only i had the money, mamamakyaw ako ng cymbals from their byzance line. :-(

ok naman yung bcs...i like the hats tsaka yung ride,,medyo di ko lang gusto yung crash,,masyado ma gong yung tunog para sa akin.pero overall,,ok naman yung set.  :)

sa lyric cubao po sir..nakuha ko sya ng sale.ang price tag nya 15,300 php nakuha ko sya ng 9.8k.kaya ako napabili kase ang laki ng binawas.may site din akong nakita (di ko tanda anong site,tinawag lang ako kapatid ko) ang nasa set talaga ng bcs,,yung ride ay 18' funny ang nakuha ko ay 20 inch.  :?

got a look at them sa lyric trinoma early this year, nakalimutan ko na yung meaning ng bcs, sinabi sa akin... but bronze na daw sya hindi brass

hmm,,hindi ko alam pano malalaman kung brass o bronze yung cymbals,,pero kung bronze nga ito gaya ng sabi mo sir,,sulit na sulit pala yung binili ko dito..dahil di ko inisip na bronze sya,thought it was brass.  :-o

If its for home use, it will be ok to go for the  HCS.

Then if you'll be upgrading or adding other cymbals you can combine it with stagg dh, myra or sh series.

Be careful lang sa crash ng hcs, if you're a hard hitter.

entry level to bro ng meinl. pwede na din kung sa bahay lang at pang practice. pero mas panalo tunog ng sabian b8 at quality para sakin. pero personal preference lang yun. depende parin sa genre at tunog na hanap mo. goodluck!

Yup ok sila as starter cymbals. Decent sound. I particularly liked the hihats and the bell of the ride. I lived through it for a year I think. 8-)
