Yes sir, thats the advantage of using heads, u can change them as much as you wish. And vice versa. I use my blackstar ht5 head thru my 4x12 for rehersals, it sounds so massive. Heck, u can even drive a 100watt head thru a 1x12 cab, just make sure u have the right impendances and wattages

decent clean naman kaso mas gusto ko blues jr ko mas bilog. at nakukulangan ako sa gain, payat. pang ac/dc lang and not so metal stuffs which is ok for me kasi hindi na ako tumutugtog ng metal ngayon. too bad huli na nung nakita ko yung blackstar sa megamall hehe.
havent tested it yet sa gig and cranked it up. asa break-in mode pa. ayaw ko lang kasi na magarrive ako sa MG series or any ss amp thats why i chose the starter tube amp model na MA for my budget. mahal nung jcm sa jb kasi, taga. yun pa naman gusto ko

Hindi naman sa hindi siya nasaksak. It blew the cab. :-o
The JMP SB sounds very much like those live Hendrix albums. It also likes pedals. I tried snooping with some distortion pedals and can get some nice Tool-ish tones.
As for the late '70s MKII, I'd say it is a more open version of the 2204 JCM800. Less gain on tap, but more thickness when cranked (I had =C= 6550s popped in it).

The most tweaking I ever did was the hot-rod mod for the JCM900. Supposedly it gave the amp a little more gain and added a bit more midrange. Honestly, I can't even remember the difference it made.
Then there's plain old bias adjustment. Konting pihit lang, ramdam mo na agad yung pag "hot rod" mo. It gets to a point where the good harmonics just jump out at you. At that point, rakenrol!

I was thinking of selling my Marshall AVT20, but before I took the plunge I decided to upgrade it's tube to Mullard with the help of our forumer Sherwin Simon, the packaging is superb when it is delivered, he definitely made sure that the product will not be harmed during transport, it is protected by a bubble packaging.
With the help of Mang Raul he fixed the scratchy gain and made the OD button working again, and before replacing the tube he allowed me to hear the difference between the stock tube and the Mullard tube, and boy I was surprised for the change in it's tonality, it is now louder and clearer to my ears and well balanced too without using any effects.
Now the problem is what am I going to do with my guitar effects? :eek:

got a 900 dual reverb back in 09. shame to sell it for around 600 bucks! its a pretty decent amp for its price. it has junk sovtek power tubes and marshall preamps when i got it. it was really cloudy but i switched those w/ jj 6l6's and and as far as for the preamps, i tried to mix a dozen combination to suit my taste from tungsol, jj, ruby, mullard (R.I. & NOS thanx pareng bart!), electro hamonix, svetlana till i found it. not sure what i ended up with. i think its still loaded w/ jj's n eh's. not sure! but it still does the job!
performance wise, its very versatile for a high gain amp as long as you like a thick, raw, heavy and lots of mids! it may sound from a chip compare to 800 but 800s doesnt suit my ear unless siguro high gain lee jackson mod. if i still have my dual recto, jsx and 5150 II and my current, laney gh50 and this, and ill choose w/c one to keep, ill pick this one. *no offense to the user its not as chunky and bassy as mesa's.. american high gains aint for me.. 5150, very nice amp! but i dont need all the gains and when i turn it down, its half a$$ed, jsx, SATCHurated, ds1 in tube amp. very loose.. gh50, manipis (compare to 900), maybe beacause its 50wts.. im planning to switch to kt66 so it could have a lil more body but havent tried it yet and wala talaga syang clean channel. have to turn the pot down.
but to be honest, sometimes nanawa na din ako but heck! couple of turns from the knobs and im good!
not even with a disto pedal? cause i've seen some videos on youtube and it sounds really good

Yup. But your comparing a 100watt head driving a 4x12 have against a 5 watt 1x10. Imo, the class 5 doesnt have enough clean headroom for a dirt pedal. But hey, thats just my opinion. I own both

Try to check @ frequently asked questions forum. If I were you dont touch your amp till its fixxed. You might end up spending more. Goodluck!

Better have a speaker change than a tube swap.. but with that, sobrang compromised din ang drive channel lalo kung gusto mo yung drive niya sa ngayon.. Mahirap hanapan na gaganda both yung clean at drive channel niya, especially kung ang benchmark mong clean ay sa Fender whereas hinahabol mo yan from a Marshall..
Keep the Marshall.. Get a Fender.. Then an amp switcher.. :-)

I've tried a 2x12 combo before and found it interesting. Lots of usable tones but the key is to find the right balance between the body and detail knobs. Not as full sounding as the JCM 800s but better than 900s IMHO. You may want to have the head version because the combo doesn't seem to fill the room well.

Canadian models all shipped from England with EL34's, metal switches and possibly different output transformers. They had a fuse board internally to help prevent more blowouts in the amp.U.S. models were assembled state-side by Unicord *Univox* and had 6550's, plastic switches and again the transformer. The Canadian OT's were putting out more power than the U.S. ones by comparison.

Okay. Noob question on the JCM 800 dual reverb. I got to use one the other night. I instantly fell in love with the sound on both channels. The only marshalls I got to use back then were all valvestates :cry: Now I know what a cranked all-tube marshall sounds like, and this is going out via a 4x12 marshall cab. Pure rock and roll.
But I noticed, you can't really get a clean tone without really turning the gain knob about 7-8 o'clock. But the volume goes down with the gain adjustment even if I crank up the volume knob. I also trued to lower the guitar's volume knob. It still sounded a little overdriven.
How do you guys get your cleans on a Marshall stack? :)

You know, the cleans on "Paradise City" 's intro. :-D
Nag feeling slash kasi ako nung nagamit ko, we were trippin' around and started jamming guns and roses but I couldn't get the amp to sound clean. The reason for asking is that.. if budget permits. I'm getting one haha. But I can't justify spending too much on an amp that sounds cranked all the time.
In addition, I was blown away by channel B's gain. Whoa.

hmm... paradise city cleans ain't that clean but anyway, slash uses a chorus and a delay i think.
ideally, the guitar vol knob roll-off should do the trick and give you a gritty clean, and try to fiddle with your eq :-)

hi marshall experts I have a dilemma. I want to upgrade to a tube amp, I play from jazzy fenderesque cleans to heavy mesa low ends. After sear/hing I found that marshalls are the best way to go. Specifically the MHZ15h and the DSL15h. They're about the same price and specs. Opinions please? :?

I haven't been using my JCM900 for quite some time (15 years to be exact) and now that I've been going back to playing, I notice that every time I turn up the volume, I hear a popping sound even if there's nothing plugged in the amp. Anyone have any idea what it could be?

What should I look for when as replacement tubes? Is it as easy as changing a light bulb? Obviously a noob here..thanks
For pre amp tubes (the 3 small ones) its all plug and play. As for the power tubes, u have to get em tuned (biased) by a qualified technician. Try changing the preamp tubes first

-I'm experiencing volume drop while playing, both sa clean and dirt section.. I don't know kung gano katagal yung gap pero bumabalik naman sa normal na volume then mag drop ulit. Need help from the experts.

Kinuha ko ngayon yung speaker ng Cub10 (Celestion G10E-30) then nilagay ko sa Marshall... Pero di ko na nilagay yung speaker ng Marshall (Celestion G10D-25) sa Laney...
Nagandahan ako sa tunog, solved. Nakukuha ko yung gusto kong tunog...
QUESTION mga bossing: Lagi ko dala amp ko sa gig namin and shempre kaylangan malakas volume ng amp ko kasi maliit lang 'to... "hindi po ba masisira yung speaker?
Nag se-search kasi ako sa web, di ko naman mahanap yung value ng mga speaker ko para ma-compare, baka may nakakaalam sa inyo...

they have MA50C and MA100C...I believe the 100w is just 51K without discount...and the 50w, 42K without discount too.

yep, but i think old stock na nila yun, ilang dekada na yata nakatambak dun mga MA series nila and it is already discontinued at the Marshall Amps today, replaced by today`s DSL40C (JCM2000), i think you can`t compare the sound of that, but the price wise and sound wise, the DSL40C without mods is awesome, and MA series? nah, still crap. Big improvements :-D

JVM just because the DSL100H is a Made in Vietnam, budget-line Marshall. Which is eeewww... Hahaha! Just kidding.
Got to use a DSL100H once. It's got the Marshall sound. But the fit and finish is tacky. Di ko trip yung pattern sa tolex, tapos iba rin ang feel pag hinawakan parang manipis.

yes, but the good thing is, she's not that fizzy even she's all stock. When it comes to clean, DSL is better, but when it comes to dirt, i prefer the JCM.

Just got a DSL50 recently and I'm still in the process of getting a good live tone for it. Just realized that I get buried in the mix if I leave the tone shift on. Also, started boosting it with SD-1. There's a subtle difference in tone ( I play high gain on lead 2) but very useful.

at what volume level are you playing them? i have a dsl40c and it sounds fine to me.
dsl40c's are fine cause theyre el34s they thicken up, when turned up.
but the 15h? and 5 watters nope..
go 800. or vintage modern pa din. Id even go for for a class 5 and turn them up to get that marshall sound.

Can't blame you. I don't expect lower watters to keep up with the band, more so with a loud drummer. Anyway, other guitarist in the band I'm in currently plays DSL100H (when he doesn't want to setup his rack), sounds big and I can hear him over my JCM2000 DSL. EQing is the key but cabs and speakers have a huge influence how you will sound in live setting.
I had a VM2266, sounds perfect for classic rock/hard rock applications. Just didn't have enough gain even when boosted (IMO). JCM800 is probably my next amp. If wasn't for $1,200.00 used price tag, I will snatch one up.

Can't blame you. I don't expect lower watters to keep up with the band, more so with a loud drummer. Anyway, other guitarist in the band I'm in currently plays DSL100H (when he doesn't want to setup his rack), sounds big and I can hear him over my JCM2000 DSL. EQing is the key but cabs and speakers have a huge influence how you will sound in live setting.
I had a VM2266, sounds perfect for classic rock/hard rock applications. Just didn't have enough gain even when boosted (IMO). JCM800 is probably my next amp. If wasn't for $1,200.00 used price tag, I will snatch one up.
saw a JMP 50 watter on fb classifieds. looks like its in great condition. check it out bro. jmps are essentially 800's excep the name.

dsl40c's are fine cause theyre el34s they thicken up, when turned up.
but the 15h? and 5 watters nope..
go 800. or vintage modern pa din. Id even go for for a class 5 and turn them up to get that marshall sound.
ah ok. i am curious, do you happen to own or used extensively any of the new dsl models or just base your review from watching youtube and reading online forums?

Marshall dsl15c user here! And i'm lovin the little critter. Crunches and bites like a boosted marshall! The gain knob has a weird taper though. I only have it at 10 o' clock and its very saturated. The digital reverb is just the right intensity IMHO. No complaints cause the tone just cuts through a dense mix of instruments playing at the same time. Definitely got that modern marshall tone.
If anyone bitches that marshalls suck, just turn it up so you cant hear the whinin'! Marshalls were designed and made as loud amps. Actually wanted to get that dsl50 head in the classifieds, but i knew i wouldn't be able to get those tubes cookin at the volumes i play. A 50 watt marshall is loud even with a full band. Mabubuwisit ka lang sa kakasenyas ng "sound engineer" to turn it down sa gig.. Unless i start playin those big venues that actually need the the 100 watt full stacks, im perfectly happy with my cute 15 watt small combo.

Scooped mids sounds great when playing alone but when playing with a band, it gets buried. Yan din halos settings ko in any marshall, I leave the bass boost on all the time pero depende parin sa speakers if I want to play with tone shift on or off.

Anyone got the Code 50 already? I auditioned it at JB music a few days ago and I must say it's ticklng my fancy in a bad way. Don't get me wrong, it certainly does not have the feel of playing a tube amp, but for the money I think it's a nice little toy to have around the house.

Jcm900 too thin, solid state rectifier over the tube preamp. Sounds ffuzzy. Dsl 100 england made is ok. Dsl 40 is crap. Jcm 800 is king

Go JCM 800. That amp can do everything, with the correct pedals. the old ones are better basta all stock and di laspag. If you cant find one, get a friedman. they're better at nailing that marshall tone even better than marshall nowadays.
DSLs suck.
So are MGs.
but if you happen to make the mistake of buying either of those. crank the master then use the preamp gain as the master volume. marshalls are known for their power amp distortion/overdrive. atleast youll feel the push of air coming from a real marshall.
Do u know what your talking about? Have u even tried playing thru a dsl100 cranked?

Damn! I missed my DSL 40C that i sold recently. I easily get bored with my Fender Deluxe Reverb, I missed the gainy classic sound of a Marshall amp. Plan ko pa naman kumuha ng 5 watter for my bedroom and living room practice, then mukhang puro negative ang review dito sa forum :cry:

Eto pa isa! Can't have too many amps. Doesn't have reverb which kinda bugged me at first, but i find that i actually prefer the tone without it. Gets a bit ice picky with bright geetars.. Now i need a 1936 cab...

for the time being... it's my only oversized 1x12 cab at the moment. i'd like to use the "greenback" loaded vox cab with it. pero parang babagsak. medyo malaki pala yun head. di ko nga pinabuksan yun box sa jb. just paid for it and went back for it the next day.
EDIT: tried it through the "vox greenback 12"" loaded open back night train cab, as well as the krank cab with the eminence legend 12". sounded best with the krank cab IMHO lang naman po. my high gain heads love that cab. must be cause it's a "hifi" speaker, great for tight high gain toanz.
interestingly, magkalapit yun tunog ng ironheart sa night train na cab. can barely tell the difference. as to which is better, parehong parang may kumot na nakataklob. baka nasanay lang ako sa pagka-hifi ng eminence legend. Or sa vintage 30 which is my go-to speaker whenever possible. Pero maganda mag-chug yun ironheart cab. Doesn't get much love in the internet, but its kinda growin on me. Acquired taste siguro. Either that or its breakin in quite nicely.

Celestion g10d-25 16ohms. But i have a replacement starvox speaker na 8ohms that i bought just to compare.
Nice. Same sa combo ko. Celestion G10D-25 rin pero 8 ohms naman. I've tried running it sa 1x12 cab with a Celestion Classic Lead 80, maganda rin although a bit darker sounding.

Yes sir! How'd you know? Saw it 1st dati sa school gamit ng friend din ni perf, yun gutarist ng da pulis. Went to the same school kasi pero higher batch yun dalawa. Nung nakita ko for sale sa forums, di na ko nagdalawang isip. The gain was shot pero was a quick fix by mang raul!

Cab update:
I've been runnin the dsl15h through a randall 4x12 cab for a few months na. Loud and shakes the room! Great for chugs on drop tuned geetars. Even my 8 string loves the [strawberry]. Hahaha! Whoever said the dsl series lacked bass should have their ears tested.

Mukhang they shifted the design of the low watt dsl from 6v6 to el34. I prefer the el34 myself. Pero at 20 watts output only for a pair, sa dsl20 na bago? Wonder how they get it to crunch & saturate? Diodes na naman ba?
I'm still a dsl fanboi tho. Would take it over any modified marshall bowteek. Kasi wala ako pambili ng bowteek.
