Always angle your monitors in such a way that the convergent points of the speakers' HF dispersion hit the mix position.  Make sure your mixer is within reach from the mix position, as any other equipment you use in mixing, for that matter.  You can put your synths towards the side but put the rest of the stuff that you tweedle with when mixing within reach at mix position.

If I read the drawing correctly, the monitors appear to be almost 180 degrees to each other at the mix position. that's one big set of "headphones" you got there.

Ideally, you would want the mix position to be the tip of an equilateral triangle with the 2 other tips being the monitors facing in the direction of the mix position. Right now, I imagine the stereo image to be quite exaggerated. Mike, I imagine some bass buildup in the corner behind the monitor; could be a good place to position a bass trap.

OT: Had the pleasure to meeting Jepoy in person today... great guy! Thanks for the coffee pare!

Not necessarily a bass trap.  A 100 mm glass fiber absorber can be good.  I would put the bass trap at the back or corners, left and right of the mix position.  You need the wave to build up before it can be absorbed by the LF trap.

@MikeP,

Thank you for sharing your great opinion with regards to this acoustical issue. I'm quite amazed why we haven't much thread about room resonance modes. If only you can share more on the effect of acoustic resonance- such as in a monitoring/listening room. I know ..I know it's quite hefty from your time. How about just covering the basic acoustical principles for those who want to take the next step in understanding how sound behaves in a room?:wink: That will be greatly appreciated here. Reason for my concern, is to share more awareness about room that acts as an equalizer; boosting certain frequencies and attenuating others which result to degraded sound quality. I think everyone want's their music free from these aberrations.

best regards,
Direk

Direk, I would be more than glad to discuss room modes and other matters regarding room acoustics but rather hefty.  Maybe if there are certain issues that people would like to ask, I can probably give them a shot.  If ever I cannot seem to answer them, I have my acoustic consultant and studio designer friends from different acoustical firms locally and abroad who are more than willing to give their viewpoints on it.

ideally, you should have your studio monitors at ear level, forming an equilateral triangle with each monitor - left, right, and you - forming each corner of the triangle.

my monitors for my PT and PC DAW setups sit on 36" raxxess stands at ear level, facing me when I sit down.

Yes, ear level is where the monitor speakers should be.  They are about 1.2 meters from the floor.  The HF drivers dispersion must coverge where the sweet spot or mix position is at.  I normally prefer my convergent points (HF convergence) to be about a foot from the back of my head that way I have a nice stereo spread.  I would like the monitors to be about 6 to 8 feet apart, and yes, they should be positioned to form an equilateral traingle.  Also, better to have them in their own monitor stands so that there will be no splash or reflections into the console table or mixer itself.
