Question about strat saddles
« on: September 18, 2010, 11:29:17 AM »
I've recently purchased an American standard strat from yupangco and it apparently destroys strings (D and B specifically) frequently. Is this a frequent phenomenon? :-/

And in case I want it replaced, what saddle brand is good?

There might be a sharp edge sa string slot ng saddles. Try to lightly sand.file the string slot..

Oh.. MIA na Strat, may problem sa quality. So ano pa kaya pinagkaiba niya sa MIM. Mexicans din naman gumawa non sa California. Sayang naman tsk tsk. May need na agad to change the saddles. As far as I know, they have a 1 year warranty. They should make the proper changes necessary to bring it back to its original state.

it happens, you should have played it and assess it well before buying it..anyway what 'area' of the saddle did it break?

better have it checked first bro. it could a factory defect or something. i also own an all stock strat... my main axe as of the moment.  i use e. ball 9s super slinky right now but will upgrade to 10s later.  i play songs/solos with lots of half/full bends too but i don't break strings easily.

personally, i like the sound of steel

Mine is the factory default standard strat fender saddles. Played it for about half an hour on the store with lots of bending and vibrato action (That doesn't sound right). I don't know If that's enough test but the guitar feels right so I purchased it.

Strangely enough, It doesn't break on bends. Open Rock and Roll 12 bar blues rhythm in A and boom, there goes the D string. I understand the B as I've replaced it with a cheap string (Maya).

thats weird...i replaced a set of 9s since i got my strat 2 mos ago luckily i havent popped one string.  since you havent done anything to it,  i think the warranty will still cover the problem.

I've also tried KTS Titanium saddles before. While high quality upgrade parts such as Callaham, etc. are always good, evaluate first if your guitar is worth spending the extra money on. No offense to Behringer Strat owners, but I don't think that starter/beginner guitars will do any justice to the upgrade parts. Imagine buying a Callaham full bridge + trem block assembly upgrade and having it mounted onto a Behringer Strat. Mas mahal pa yung bridge assembly sa guitar. You won't hear the difference (for the most part). There are cheaper saddles out there that will solve the TS' string breaking problem.

MIJ Strats are normally good base units for modding. But above everything else, test the guitar first.

true i wouldnt put callaham parts into a sx, focus kramer or anything else less than 100usd, (but anybody can who'se stopping them) point is its not logical.but there are decent upgrades for those types of guitars(even ss saddles) but none of those branded stuff and marketed stuff found in private builders..

I'll give it another try. hehe Replace everything with a fresh new set of strings and see if problem still persists. If it does then I think the warranty will fix it. Thanks guys! :)
