In terms of strat bodies, I'd go with the fernando dahil alder yung gamit na kahoy... Okay naman yung bullet squire. May na test ako noon, 3 stratocaster. 1 unique series, 1 bullet squire, and 1 RJ strat. My ears when for the RJ, then unique series, then bullet squire. Maybe that's on me lang din. Try and test which of the two satisfies your ear.

how about yung hindi unique series na strat? ano ang wood niya?

Hi!

I'm a noob (as in zero knowledge. I tried learning on my own with an acoustic but i sucked) who wants to try my hand at buying a Fernando guitar. JB Music currently has a Fernando guitar promo (Strat with your amp of choice (Laney, Orange, and Marshall), cable, and gig bag) for just around 7k. Is it a good guitar (My dream guitar is an Epiphone Casino or a Fender Telecaster) for beginners? And if in any case i get really good at it (sorry, it's really a dream of mine to be a pro guitarist and probably have a career at playing music), Is it ok to be used in performances?

P.S. I'm also thinking of enrolling for guitar lessons and i'm choosing between RJ Guitar Center and Lyric. Any pros and cons? My friends advised me to try to learn through youtube or google but i think i won't be good at that.

Pros:A good teacher can speed up the learning process in some ways, may teach you some workarounds for some difficult areas that is really hard to discern if you completely don't know what you are doing.  cons: the expense and time constraints, tapos yung "hiya" factor.

for a starter guitar oks na yung fernando, heck kahit yung stagg and the rockstar guitars are decent enough to learn few basics.

Anyway, I went to JB yesterday and had one of their crew play with their guitars. He used both the Strat and the Tele models. Both sounded great (or maybe it's because i'm a noob who doesn't know [gooey brown stuff] about guitars) but i think the Tele model is a better choice. However when i asked the craw about their promo, it seems that it's only for a specific Strat model. Am i making the right decision if i purchase that?

If you really want to go that route, I suggest weigh your decision by checking if your comfortable playing with it; if you can at least struck a chord without too much effort on your hands and if it the weight is good for you. Because at this point the matter of discerning the difference between a strat and a tele will not count as a factor. kung hindi naman deal breaker para sayo yung dating nang strat style body and a tele di dun ka na sa package for the sake of practicality.IMO.

Tried to handle both guitars with my hands and i must say na wala naman problema pagdating comfortability. About sa weight naman, medyo mabigat kasi solid body yung Strat nila (pero i think that goes for all Strat models naman). I guess the difference maker is how the two guitars sounded when the clerk tried to play them. Different ang tunog nung dalawa ("semi hollow body kasi yung Tele") or maybe it's because the guy played different sounds with the guitars to show variety. But yeah, i want to get the package for practicality. What i'm trying to assess is the overall quality of Fernando guitars. I was considering to get an RJ din kasi (buti na lang di pa ako nakakabili kasi nabasa ko sa threads ng RJ guitars na ang dami palang may ayaw dun. Ang sa akin naman, what holds me back is the presentation of  their products e.g. "Strut" guitars  :-P, Acoustic guitars na mukhang mediocre sa itsura pa lang.

The thinline(semi hollow) tele will surely weigh less because of the wood reduction done. Tone(sound) wise you'll have obvious difference because of the pick-up design, body construction, and wood type. If you want to assess quality why don't you try other entry level guitars from squire,epiphone,ibanez(gio),jackson(JS32 series),Washburn(not sure if may x-series pa). In the store scenario medyo mahirap i-sum up yung long run quality eh,all you can do is check the construction, kung smooth yung mga frets, walang problema yung electronics, and the level of comfort. Durability wise, certain factors can affect especially on how you take care of your instruments.

yung RJ m16 guitar astig.

I don't know anything about the non-unique series. But even the unique series, I think they are low grade alders. Not the same grade used by Fenders.

IMHO, being a newbie in guitar playing doesn't equate that you should also purchase entry-level guitars. Been in your shoe before, but then I realized, with your intended budget, there are those that are sold in the classified ads that are better in terms of quality. Baka makachamba ka ng mga SX, Korean Squires, etc. But yeah, mas mabuti kung meron kang kilalang marunong kumilatis ng guitar if you go this route.

^i'm actually considering buying a guitar off the classifieds. Ang pinoproblema ko lang din kasi bukod sa budget, eh i feel that the guitars are suited to the seller's personal preference in guitar playing. Kung di ako nagkakamali, most of those guitars are tweaked to a certain level to match their style and skill. That's why i want to get a brand new guitar, feeling ko kasi mas madali para sa akin matuto sa isang simpleng gamit. Pwera na lang siguro kung yung binebentang gitara eh ginamit nina John Frusciante, Santana, o kaya ni Keith Richards.
:-D Pero yeah, bibili din siguro ako sa classified natin kapag marunong na ako kumilatis ng tunog.

Plywood daw yung Unique Series na Strat ko :( I still have it, though. First love ko eh.
