Title: Dunlop Wah Question
Post by: idoytuba on April 24, 2007, 11:42:41 PM
I got a Dunlop GCB-95, yung bang pag maglalagay ka ng battery kailangan buksan mo ang apat na screw. I bought this around 1994, scratchy na ang pot at minsan ayaw mag-engage or disengage.

My question is:

1. Kanino ko pwede ipaayos? Mga magkano aabutin kaya? Locally available ba ang parts? I'm planning to sell it if it will cost me too much in the end.

2. Ano difference nito sa isa pang GCB-95 na iba na lalagyan ng battery? Yung merong battery terminal na sa labas, yung tipong di mo na bubuksan pa ang cover. Mas luma ba yung sa akin? Aside from the battery placement, same components ba sila? Same sound?

Thanks in advance!

you need: pot replacement: 1.3k brand new
switch 500 brand new
shipping of items from local distributor: 150.00-200.00
labor for repairs at least 500.00.

if you're instersted in selling it, im intersted in buying it. thanks

I had a GCB95 that I didn't use for at least 10 years. I had the pot, inductor, switch, etc changed/upgraded and now it has been my main wah pedal instead of the Vox V848 Clyde I have.

I know Turi is interested in buying it off you but I suggest keeping it and having it fixed/modded.

If the GCB-95's pot is a Hot Potz (most likely) or some other kind of sealed pot, you won't be able to spray any kind of contact cleaner into it. Otherwise a good suggestion for remedying scratchy non-sealed pots.

If you want to add an easy-access battery compartment, you'll need something like this: http://www.guitarelectronics.com/c=qoRWaPErByyuRaZOa2FY7ftdB/product/9VB2 (http://www.guitarelectronics.com/c=qoRWaPErByyuRaZOa2FY7ftdB/product/9VB2) - not sure if it is locally available.

Or, you can get a battery door - http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=587 (http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=587) - I think smallbear ships to the RP.

I suppose you can replace the pot with any standard 24mm d-shaft pot, 100K linear or audio taper, although the taper might not be the same as the Hot-potz (i.e., the treadle response would be different). Otherwise, get one of these pots: http://www.smallbearelec.com/Categories.bok?category=Wah-Wah+and+Swell+Pedal+Parts (http://www.smallbearelec.com/Categories.bok?category=Wah-Wah+and+Swell+Pedal+Parts)

For the faulty/inconsistent switching, the felt pad underneath the treadle might just be worn out. You can try one of two things: 1) replace the worn out pad with something similar, or 2) raise the switch (this will require some disassembly).

I know some of the forumites here work on pedals, BAMF, Emil_Murillo, and I think qwi does too. Check with them.

kung ang nakalagay sa front logo nyan eh "Original Crybaby"...ipaayos mo na lang yan bro...maganda yan kaysa sa mga bagong GCB95...i used to have that kind of wah na kelangan mo pa buksan para palitan yun battery...kung pot & switch lang nman ang sira, madali maayos yan...look for BAMF here in the forums... 8-)

If you bought it in 94, we have the same model GCB-95.  Those aren't sealed pots.  You can use contact cleaner on them.  That was the first thing I asked the dude at the music store when it came to scratchy pots over time.

Sorry, I bought it 1992 pala. Typo error. And yes, it has the "Original Cry Baby" front logo. I searched the net for solution, wala ako makitang kapareho na model. At wala akong soldering or electronic skills! Baka lalo ko pang masira. I'll contact BAMF.

Salamat ulit sa mga suggestions.

Pinadalhan ako ng Dunlop 535Q wah, after i looked it up sa harmony central, i found out it had reliability issues especially on its switches. Meron po ba sa inyo may ideas/opinions tunkol dito and how i may try to avoid those problems?

i just got a bnew condish GCB-95 from a swap with a forumer, i was using it at the office when it was ok, but when i got home, the switch wont click.. as O.C. as i am with stepping on pedals, i don't stomp..
good thing ricabb7 has a true by-pass mod for that with only costs 750 bucks (including the switch), i'll bring it there ASAP..

Dunlop uses Carling switches. At one point, Carling moved their production to Mexico. Since then, their switches had reliability issues. Everytime I mod a Dunlop wah, I always replace the switches with those blue taiwan 3PDTs, no problems so far.

Guys, 2pdt switches are available at JB MOA 90 bucks lang!

As for cleaning the pots, better if you use contact cleaner that wd-40. Or if you can dismantle the pot just wipe it dry, assemble, and rock on!

1.  get yourself a contact cleaner... P150 isa yata. (minsan di pa naman kailangan palitan ang pots, dahil madumi lang)

2.  alam ko mas ok pa rin ang dunlop wah na luma vs mga bago ngayon.

what year is this gcb95?

http://s680.photobucket.com/albums/vv170/papotzki/Dunlop%20GCB-95%20Wah/?action=view&current=06252009573.jpg

it's got original crybaby written in front but the compartment has a pocket. i had an old gcb95, the one where you'd have to open the whole back plate to replace the batt. but this one has a pocket. what year is this? is this a good model as well? or is far inferior to the one I used to have? thanks!

also, i came across a JH1S.

Which wah should i get?!?!
