"PEDAL FOR METAL"
« on: April 07, 2007, 04:05:45 AM »
Good day mga Kuya, i dont know if there's existing thread that is same with this,but here is it;

I'm been thinking to buy a high gain pedal that is:

1.Versatile

2.That can stand alone (can play competitively even without using other pedal/s to add character,boost etc.)

3.And the pedal that can use both in soloing/shredding and heavy riffing (assuming that i can play like that :-D)

Because of different kinds of pedals that ive read or heard, it is very difficult to decide which pedal will i use. I know that different pedals have different tone,character, etc..I need your expert pieces of advice regarding my concern.

Thanks in advance.. :wink:

ganito din habol ko, someone advised to chain an Equalizer after the Chuga Chuga pedal, so like mine is;

Axe->HM100->GE-7->Amp

Pwede din pang boost ng solo yung GE-7,

anyways Im thinking of an UBER metal.

mga filipino mahilig manggaya no?
peace bro!

Baka wala sa pedal ng Slipknot yung 100% tone nila, maybe its in the amp also.
So bili ka ng amp na katulad sa kanila or be unique na lang. Try your own tone.

+1 to own tone. but if you are persistent in copying, try getting a maxon od9 and a hendrix octave fuzz since thats what jim root uses. and dont forget the emg pups on a tele!  :wink:

Try mo pamodify yung mt2 tapos sabayan mo ng eq. Mas maganda talaga kung tube amp gamit mo.  :-D

i've tried the following distortion types (as far as metal is concerned, so no DS1 or Tubescreamers here): MT2, Marshall distortion, modded and unmodded HM2, DOD Death Metal, peavey distortion, japanese amps distortion, Boss Hyper Metal, X Distortion, Boss Hyper Fuzz ...

the ones that stand out are:

1.) MT2 = if you are gonna use this unmodded, better get a Graphic Equalizer since the mids of this thing are too nasal sounding, i suggest you mod this into the bakemono (eherm). the disadvantages i see are: generic sounding because everyone uses it (but then again, metal is about riffs), expensive plus you have to either mod it or get an EQ pedal and in some cases, a noisegate. and just to add, another disadvantage with this (and with all high gain pedals) is that it kills your dynamics due to compression ... but then again, dont worry too much since metal is all about crushing power over dynamics. i just said this in case you decide to do blues stuff somewhere along the line...

2.) Boston Heavy Metal = now the stock version of this is a lot better than Boss MT2. you can play this baby without an EQ if you want - it is that decent already! ... you have the option to mod it, and it is dead cheap... i dont see why any guitar player on a budget shouldnt get this. if you are not on a budget, get a marshall halfstack or a mesa boogie triple rectifier... that will end the distortion debate.

3.) DOD Death Metal = one of the best chugging bass and mids ever! it beats the MT2 and HM as far as chugging is concerned! if you play a lot of groovy palm muted open chords, the Death Metal can make those heads bang. the only reason why i hate this is that since it doesnt have a gain control, the feedback shrieks at you everytime your strings stop vibrating. there is no way to shut the feedback off this aside from turning it off completely (which i dont recommend since DOD foot swtiches are flimsy), or getting a noise gate. on a decent amp, i doubt that you would crank anything past 12 oclock here... this thing is damn powerful! either get a noisegate or have it modded to have a gain control OR have your pickups shielded and potted perfectly to unleash the metal in this pedal.

Line 6 uber metal kung stand alone. May built in Noise Gate kasi siya so you wont be humming all over the place. habulin mo na lang sa amp pag gusto mong litaw yung lead mo. Kung tamad ka naman magtimpla ng amp, gamitan mo nlng ng graphic equalizer. The BOSS sounds great with it. Although the cheap Behringer GE works as well.

get an sd2. hi gain dist, with the balls of an overdrive. siguro dapat hindi metal pedal eh. metal pedals tend to replicate the tone of recorded tracks. remember, if you're gonna play in a band setting, you have to cut thru. using a metal pedal will only drown you as far as i know.. and if you're gonna mix it to cut thru, its tone ain't usable for lead/solos. manipis na. get a distortion (with balls of course) instead. yung humihingang dist, at hindi compressed gaano. hi gain nga, pero hindi metal. iba ang naririnig mong tunog sa bandang tumutugtog kesa sa gitaristang nag ssoundcheck pa lang. kung pagbabasehan mo yung tone na nagagawa ng bandang tumutugtog, talo ka dun. yung tunog na yun, pinaghalong bigat ng banat ng bass, drums at ng gitara. anyway.. yun lang. get a high gain dist na may balls. yun lang. sd2 na yun (lead channel - hindi na nga to overdrive eh kung tutuusin.)
