the most important: single stroke
the 2nd most important: double stroke

without these two rudiments you won't be able to play any other rudiment.

it'll probably be the singles and doubles..after all..this is the foundation of all the other rudiments...

for stick control..

paradiddles at mga anak nito..double paradiddles..

another good exercise..is to use "ala-flam" exercises...

with the other stick raised higher..bring down both sticks to the head, but..instead of a flam..both sticks should land on the head at the same time with the same volume. *bawal ang puh-tak, dapat sabay.."plak"*

Singles stroke rolls, double stroke rolls, flams, paradiddles and drags. But the most important thing about any of these is the strokes used within each rudiment. rlrr or lrll or whatever is only the stick pattern. But what about the combination of stroke types? For example tap strokes verses downstokes etc. It all breaks down the efficiency of the energy used between each stroke. Playing these exercises also (if learned properly) increase control of the stick and it's rebound. It makes for less physical work or strain and more control. This is all beneficial to many styles of drumming.

kelangan ang rudiments dahil basics ito, parang ganito, hindi ka naman pwedeng mag pantalon ng hindi nakabrief diba?

lam m ba ung paradiddles? yung LRLL,RLRR? pwede mo silang gamitin with drumfills or as drum rolls, remember to use accents like for example, sinasabayan mo ng bass drum ang cymbals or maghit ng louder note in the middle of a paradiddle

i hope you get it, coz i dont get what i just said, check out drumlessons on youtube like mike johnston

Rudiments are a turn off lang because they sound so academic :D

Tama si lheyzero, basics lang siya. "Rudimentary", meaning "fundamental" or "basic". Singles are rudiments. Alternating singles (left-right-left right-etc...) is a basic thing na you can probably do already. You also probably already do "flams" with your hands and "doubles" with your feet.

Ang importance ng learning rudiments is that if you can do the rudiments well, your body can move na around the drumset. This means that pwede ka na ngayon mag-isip musically kasi hindi mo na iniisip kung paano gumalaw.

I agree with Mar Dizon when he said that there are only 3 basic rudiments:

1) Single = one stroke with one limb
2) Double = 2 strokes with one limb
3) Flam = one stroke that comes with a ghost stroke

And all other rudiments are just combinations of these 3. If you think about it this way, medyo hindi na siya intimidating. Pwede na sila i-practice between 2 hands, 2 feet, or between hand and foot :D

(naks parang expert... yuck)

as for me, i still try to study some rudiments just because it might get handy someday.
