this means you, on a personal level. not a tone thread. not a bashing thread. consider this as your personal checklist of what you still need to do, and i guess what are you doing about it. :-D
more finger exercises.
and a change of patch cables.
still looking for strats that would match the toneS in my head.
how about you guys? :)
lol... it's not about you giving tips to others, it's about you assessing yourself in an honest fashion. :-\
-
1. a very good amp
2. very good speakers
3. a lot of money
4. a lot of practice
-
skills. improving it.kung may swerte pangbili ng mga gamit, di mas lalong okay.

Suhr backplate on my strat to minimize the noise
Practice. :-D
-
Practice :-D
-
Record your playing somehow. Then you could hear yourself and listen for what you think you need.

This helps a lot. Iba rin kasi yung naririnig mo when you're "in it" (ie. playing). Helps evaluate tone/playing.
-
What else do I need to improve my tone?
GUITAR LESSONS! :-D
-
tone na naman? :-P you should ask yourself how you can create your own piece of art. masyadong madami dito ang concerned sa tone/ gear, that is never gonna end hangga't may mga bagong naglalabasan na gamit.
BTT: i agree with sir Letour. and a lot of practice.
-
"Practice cures most tone issues." - John Suhr
More practice. Best guitar within reach. Better amplifier within reach.
-
lakan, haha.. self analysis thread naman to eh.. so personal opinion sa sariling sound.. so no bashing ^_^
there are of course gear-related and skill-related reasons and it varies per person. and there is always room for improvement :-D
-
high-end stuff? 8-)
and practice :-D

sorry! haha. napanuod ko kasi Earthmover kagabi, man. i was blown away by the tone nung guitarist. he was using an Me-50 and a frigging Behringer amp but his sound was huge!i guess what im trying to point is sa huli ko pinoproblema yung tone ko after finalizing the arrangement of our song.
gearwise?i need a better amp. lol.
-
1) practice
2) practice
3) practice
4) better amp
5) better cables.. :-(

couldn't agree more. arrangement is a different plane altogether.
-
IMO. Tone is your identity. We all have our own taste of tone. Tweak your knobs, find out what it does, find your tone. ;) Now, if it doesn't work out after doing that with the gear provided, then more gears to come most likely. lol.
-

yep. walang paki mga nakikinig sa tone mo, as long as hindi masakit sa tenga.
im gonna disagree with the Tone is your identity perspective, unless your Tone is mostly about your skillz/fingers. halintulad natin sa damit ang gears na nagbibigay sayo ng Tone mo. so the clothes is wearing you. clothes do not make the man. or the camera does not make the photographer. ahh you get my point.
at dahil na-modify na ni Voltz ang thread :-P i dont think may hinahanap ako na specific tone from gears na I want, siguro exception na yung Tubemeister 36, diba Derek? i make do with what I have right now.

Not literally man, what i mean is we have different preferences of tone. Humans have their own identities, same with tone, its very unique! So what maybe good tone for me may not be good for you.
mismo yang tubemeister 36 na yan. kakaiyak. lol.

I agree with this. Kanya kanyang preference. Nakakatawa lang kase minsan yung mismong tumututog eh walang paki sa tone niya hehe. Basta tumunog dirt eh okay na, tipong ganun. Hindi aware kumbaga. Parang ; "Wow OD!" then kaskas "tama OD nga, okay na yan, game tugtog na" .. haha!
Sakin, more time for me to practice, during weekends na lang ako nakakapag jam...kulang na kulang hehe

A dr.z z-wreck and a victoria tweed deluxe clone.
Tsaka kfc supreme bowl ala king.
-
Practice.
-
Not to get easily bored or lazy on that gear. Damn, and a good warm-up for me stretches the playing for hours.
-
a better dirt that will fit a noiseless SC Strat :(
-
MORE MONEY...
and I apologize but its not PRACTICE. PRACTICE is what you need to be a GREAT GUITARIST as a musician.
No amount of practice will make your fingers sound like a Les Paul when you are playing a Strat. And no amount of note selection will make a bad sounding amp sound good.

Given naman yun Alex; I guess I was replying in the context of all other things being equal, ie if you already had the best equipment in the world, what else would make your tone better.

Last thing I tried is to add Boost / Preamp pedal and to use the effects loop. And tama More gigs.
