Thanks for your posts! wala pa naman plan magistall ng aircon kaya hindi nman grabe yung temp changes. siguro yung summer heat lang yung puede iconsider. pero well ventilated naman yung room kaya hindi siguro aabot sa point na magcorrode yung hardware o magwarp yung shells. actually, my orig plan was to put my kit by the window para presko hehe pero hindi na lang pala...papawis na lang kesa masira   nagcanvas na ko ng drum bag na set. plan to buy within the week para pagtuloy na talaga yung studio, puede itransport ng maaayos. nakakita ako sa audiophile. gator yung brand around 3.5 k yung price - ok na ba to? siguro what i'll do is put the rack / floor tom and snare sa case, tapos yung bass, bka takpan ko n lang ng makapal ng kumot. as for the hardware, baka maleta na lang din. i really do't mind them getting scratches...wag lang kalawangin. yung cymbals, baka iuwi ko na lang. in case lumabo yung hardware, ok lang ba gamitan ng wipe out? salamat ulit...big help!

Help! Kontra-kalawang
« Reply #76 on: November 14, 2006, 01:13:08 PM »
Hi All,

I wish to restore my drums, specifically remove the rust on the metal parts.
That goes for the snare, screws, stands, etc..

Would anyone have a good recommendation on how to remove this properly?
If I can do this myself, what should I buy or use? And if there's an establishment who does this, whats the name, where and would you know how much?

Last resort would be replacing all the metal parts. Any place to get all these? My drum kit is the old Pearl export series.

Would appreciate to hear from anyone who could help.

Many Thanks!

Pro Mark Groove Juice can remove rust fast. Pati yung Coke method ni peevees (babad sa Coke ang hardware, brush in the babad solution, then banlaw with water... I'd recommend applying WD40 after all these).

Pero when you remove rust in hardware, you'll probably see that the chrome is also gone, and you'll be left with black patches where rust used to be.

Maybe you can have it re-chromed in metal working shops?

Ako Papel de liha all the way then wd40,sakit na nga ng mga daliri ko sa kakaliha eh ang rami kasing kinalawang, napabayaan kasi ng matagal, pero nakakatanggal pagod kapag nakita mo nang maganda ulit ang mga parts ng drums mo.

in mild cases of rusting, i spread "wipe out" all over the hoops, then painstakingly and carefully rub the rust away using the tip of a screw driver wrapped in 1 or 2 layers of cloth.  so far so good.

For lacquered wood shells, a good furniture polish can do.  There are wood drums with matte and oil-stained finishes, and I think there's a special polishing/cleaning agent for these drums with more delicate finishes.  Or just to be safe, just wipe the drums periodically with a nice, clean, non-abrasive cotton cloth.

I also read and heard that polishes for other wooden musical instruments (electric guitars, for example) can work well for wood-shelled drums.

There are a number of commercially-available drum shell polishes out in the market, but I don't think there are any available locally.
