ako worship leader sa youth and singles sa CCF. tips on how to be an effective worship leader? you have to really personally worship din, then the rest will follow. true worship comes from the heart. the people will recognize that, and when they do, ayun, they respond din.

Hehehe funny but I was in the exact same spot nuon. :-D I was the guitar player though, and occasional bass, and drums. I always use the term "Buffer" if somebody asks ano ginagawa ko sa worship team. I am a Buffer-person. :-D

share ko lang yung youth service namin kahapon. astig e, galing ni God.. Pinatugtog kase namin ung mga trainees namin, after almost 4 months of being an understudy...before mag start yung service, jittery sila, kabado.. tapos nung prayer time namin, we just asked for God's hand to work through them, kase nga sobrang hilaw pa sila, technically speaking, gusto ko lang talaga matuto sila mag depend kay God instead sa talent nila...Nung service, its as if iba ung bandang tumutugtog, hirap i-explain, pero nag work si God sa kanila. Just shows how God can do great things, far greater than what our talents alone could....

As gifted or "nagsusumikap" na musicians, we can do alot of glorifying when we offer our gifts on the court and off the court. We tend to forget sometimes that God has empowered us also to shine in other things. Our music can be a good vehicle to impact lives too.....................

Song leaders need to be skilled in creating their lineup. Pansin ko lang that a well though line up makes a difference...........yun lang mga bro

for me, true worship starts from the heart. it doesn't need killer riffs, beautiful voicings, world-class instruments, etc.. (although it helps :-) ). the heart of worship should be just between you and the Lord because it was what we were all made to do :-D
well said bro... minsan kase we have this attitude na "if i just had that gear,this would have sounded much better" kaya ayun, nililimitahan natin agad sarili natin. or we tend to over-arrange a song na nakalimutan natin it's about God, not how complex our arrangements are...Yun ang masaya sa church music e, yung knowing that God is doing mighty things through ordinary people like us...

Hi Bros/Sis in Christ!
God has given me a bigger responsibility at church as the band leader. Our church is located along Mc Arthur Hi-way Potrero Malabon. Maliit lang around 100-150 attendees. The church has been around for 20 yrs but sadly I can say that the band and choir are not yet that skillfully equipped but have very big potentials. One reason is that none of us has undergone proper trainings/lessons. We are able to copy some of the hillsong and other Christian bands' songs but not exactly know anything about theories/scales and I can say even the basics. With my new role, I'm planning to explore and be exposed, I believe that we need to get out of our comfort zones and make extra efforts to enhance our skills for God's glory. One of the activities that I have proposed and was approved is to have a series of lectures regarding the basics and need to learn topics of each instrument and vocals. With God's help I know that this will be a great help for each of us to learn theoretically and apply it in church.
My co-Christians, I'm seeking for your help to make this plan a success. We need a Christian PW leader/singers who can conduct a short seminar with workshop. Kahit 45 to 1 hr lecture and 1 hr workshop. You can just focus on topics that you think we need to learn ASAP, specially practices, styles, tips, song arrangements,etc. Also if you can advise us on what other topics we need to focused on.
We have the following stuffs that we can use for this activity
-Laptop and projector - for the lecture (highly advised power point presentation for the lecture)
- Electric guitar
- Electric Bass guitar
- Guitar Amp
- Bass Amp (local lang)
- Drum set (local lang)
- mic and mic amp (local lang)
Unfortunately, the church only has a small budget for these activities. I hope someone will be touched by the Lord to make time and teach us for FREE (Transportation, food and love gift only). I believe that God will reward you for your act of kindness.

anyways, dapat maging concerned ka din kung nauubusan na kayo ng members (worship leader man or musician). Mejo mahaba-habang explanation to pero I know it's worth it.
Most of us members of our respective church worship teams are easily overwhelmed with how our team becomes better in many aspects in the ministry. So overwhelemed that we tend to stick to what we have and what we know as we become better. Meaning, ayaw natin madagdagan, ayaw na din natin mag-explore. ayaw magdagdag ng baguhang musician, ayaw mag-explore ng bagong type of worship music -- panay hillsong na lang (minsan, hindi nga hillsong pero hindi naman pang-collective worship -- pang-concert or studio recording so nagtaasan kilay ng elders tapos we'd say "hmm.. wala sila sa uso.."). Ganyan kadalasn mga p&w team. Minsan (minsan lang ha), masyado na tayo naging "magaling".

Well, nag-asawa si gitarista. Kelangan magtrabaho. excuse muna ng konti sa team tapos pag nagtagal, wala na talaga. Sinalo ni bahista si gitarista. Ayan meron naman mejo marunong mag-bass eh. Ay! Mahina si bahista2. acoustic na lang muna. Ayun, acoustic nga. Nanamlay si drummer. tugtog sa banda sa labas -- gumaling, alis na sa ministry. Naiwan si bahista. nagsawa na sa paulit-ulit na kanta. tamad din sa cifrahan. Si P&W leader mejo nawalan na rin ng gana. minsan na lang kumakanta. wala bang new song? sabi ni bahista, wag na muna bagong song, wala naman ibang musicican -- sya lang... si bahista nagpapahaba na ng buhok. nanghihina na spiritually... di sya makaalis, pano naman kasi nakiusap si pastor na i-sustain ang team -- sya lang mag-isa. naaalala pa rin ni bahista ang "good times" ng music team nya nung araw. Those were the happy days. pano na ngayon? iniwan na sya eh. tamad na tamad na si bahista, nahihiya lang kay pastor.
Familiar story? Oo naman diba? Siguro sa iba, ang nasa martyr role ay ang drummer or guitarist or keyboardist... pero almost the same story diba?
Why is this happening?

As early as now we should start mentoring young aspiring musicians. Spend time with them even if most of these times they tend to change interests -- they're kids anyway.
Dapat hindi tayo papayag na nakikita mong pag wala ka, mapapa-paralyze ang team. Dapat may tagapagmana ng ministry mo. Ganito rin sa worship leaders. dapat we're stepping out from our comfort zone. Spend some time teaching the church ministry heirs -- the people younger than you!
Usual start ng ministry... Lord, gusto ko pong kumanta -- sinagot ni Lord kasi naiintindihan Nya. Lord, gusto kong mag-lead ng worship -- sinagot ulit ni Lord kasi naiintindihan Nya. Lord, gusto ko din po magkatrabaho -- sinagot ni Lord kasi naiintindihan Nya. Lord, busy ako sa work ngayon so di muna ako makakapag-serve -- naiintindihan mo naman Lord diba?

O ayan, wala pa tayo sa spirituality nyan ha. maintenance pa lang ng team yan. di pa kasali jan how we should lead worship. gusto ko lang i-share to kasi I believe that the entire music team is the worhip leader. hindi lang yan singer.

As worship leaders, we are encouraged to practice to keep our eyes opened 90% of the time so you're seeing the people you are leading in worship. It's ok. Worship is from the heart, anyway -- not from our expression. Alam natin yun diba? :)

In worship, two words should be "spirit and truth". Our love for God would be the driver but to get to true worship it should be in spirit (our spirit, not God's) and truth... nonetheless it's no secret ingredient. :-)

it was really a blessing reading wat the others had to say about worship leading and such, so much so, i was awaken...
worship leader poh aq for 5 years now...
last year, my older brother, who was the guitarist sa church, left for dubai to be with our dad, praise God, continous ang ministry nia dun...
and so, i was left with the gears he had, marunong nman nah aq mag guitar, but then not that good, mahirap mag lead ng worship nah kumakanta at nag gigitara, or kulang lng aq sa prayer...
i strived with God's help and then aun, God helped me to lead, sbi nga, vessel lng tau, we shud trust Him, and he shall move in our lives.
my younger sister soon joined the worship team,along with my other cousins who were fems as well, i fell in love with strumming the guitars for Jesus, and yun sis q ang nag lead, pati nah ung cuz q.
funny nga, my isang visitor sa church nah nag comment sa pastor namen, puro chickas dw ung worship team... hehe! but wew were doing it for God and hindi para maglorify ung mga sarili nmen...
but then, the enemy has done something to our family dat up to now, we are praying for unity, na divide kc ung clan nmen into different churches and me and my sister was left to carry on with our church's worship ministry...
it was a hard battle, i was weaken by a lot of things,
but then, it is Him who knows His purpose for everything...
and i lay my life in His hands...

magaling sya. very powerful ang message ng songs. most of his songs are prophetic. yung ibang songs nga lang nya are very deep to the point na di na masyado magets ng mga tao yung meaning ng song. he is known to be very unorthodox; in fact, karamihan sa mga songs nya ay spontaneously inspired by the Holy Spirit.

whoah!!my gan2 pla..ayus..bgong song leader ako sa church namin..(CEC - Christ Enthroned Church sa Bulacan)2nd tym ko pa lang mgso2nglid ds sunday..mtagal na ko musician sa church..pero iba talaga pag song leading na ang ginagawa mo..kinakabahan pa din ako..Da best pa din talaga ang tumugtog at mgworship sa Panginoon..tama sa sunod d2 na ko tatambay pag nakaasign ako as sl..hingi ako mga suggestions..God Bless Philmusic..i like the message na nabasa ko sa mga prior pages ng thread na 2..We have to live a lifestyle of worship..and sa pagso2nglid,we just have to be ourselves and worship the Lord and let the the LOrd move the congregation with His Spirit..

Good day to all! Sali po ako? Isa po ako sa mga worship leader sa isang Christian Community sa Mandaluyong. This thread have been a blessing to me, I’m the band leader sa Music Ministry, problema ko din ang kawalan ng commitment ng mga members, parang di sila nagma-mature, but I still love them kahit na matitigas ang mga ulo, I know marami pa akong dapat matutunan at kailangan ko ding mag-grow. (kaya nakare relate ako kay skyjammer) pero salamat sa thread na to at sa mga kapatid na nagbibigay ng encouragement at word of God.

di ako leader, but "singer" dapat ako sa church. bago lang so trainee.. i was questioning the church, or the worship leader rather, why hindi naman ako "tine-train". wala man lang practice, or pinapaaral na kanta.
fast forward....... di na ako umaattend ng practice ng music group (2pm) umaattend nalang ako pag start na praise and worship (5pm). then kinausap ng leader bf ko (bassist) bakit di na ako nakikita at 2pm. syempre sabi, wala naman daw akong ginagawa. i mean imagine, practice ng music group yun, tumutugtog, kumakanta..taz ako pinapanood sila. waiting for something to happen.
sabi ba naman nung leader dapat daw personal ko siya approach if i wanted to sing! like dammit, 4 months ako naattend ng 2pm, ngayon lang niya sinabi yan?? WORSE she said sa bf ko "akala ko sumasama lang siya sayo". wow nag mukha pakong sit in?? EVERYONE sa youth alam na singer ako sa group! how can she not?? useless pala pag attend ko ng 4months at 2pm, kasi trainee samen for 6months
now, i attend 5pm. di ko siya kinakausap. kahit maapektuhan pa pagka leader niya, kasalanan na niya yun. i avoid her COMPLETELY. na bbother daw siya, WALA ako pake. everyone wants me to face here. sagot ko lang SOMEDAY. but not now.
its about a praise and worship leader so sana hindi considered of topic.

It is God who chooses leaders, and we must pay respect to them, dapat marunong tayong magpasakop, kung gusto ng leader nyo na personal mo syang i-approach, then approach mo sya personally if you really wanted to serve God, baka gusto nya munang malaman kung ano naba ang kalagayan mo spiritually, di naman pwede na basta ka nalang tatayo dahil gusto mo kumanta…. we don’t just sing or play instruments because we have the talent to do so, nakikipag battle kasi tayo eh… how can we worship God kung meron tayong mga resentment?
Dapat clear sa atin yung ating mga motives kung bakit gusto nating gawin yung mga bagay bagay,
mahirap kasi sumuntok sa hangin....
Dapat ma-hit natin yung target….
and we should have a humble heart to serve God.
Ano ba pumipigil sa atin para gawin yung tama at mabuti? Think about it..

share ko lang yung youth service namin kahapon. astig e, galing ni God.. Pinatugtog kase namin ung mga trainees namin, after almost 4 months of being an understudy...before mag start yung service, jittery sila, kabado.. tapos nung prayer time namin, we just asked for God's hand to work through them, kase nga sobrang hilaw pa sila, technically speaking, gusto ko lang talaga matuto sila mag depend kay God instead sa talent nila...Nung service, its as if iba ung bandang tumutugtog, hirap i-explain, pero nag work si God sa kanila. Just shows how God can do great things, far greater than what our talents alone could....

Daming magagaling sa technique na Praise and Worship leaders and teams, sobrang ganda at pulido ng tunog. Pero napansin ko lang yung mga small local churches na hindi masyado maganda ang mga gamit at di ganun ka pulido yung tugtugan, sila pa yung mas maganda ang flow ng worship, ramdam mo talaga na the whole church is worshiping. Iba talaga when a song or band sings the songs that reflect the way they live their lives and the way they connect to the people in their church.
Also pansin ko, bihira ang mga churches that writes their own praise and worship songs... anyone here singing originals at church? How was it received?

i agree if the content of the song is worldly and walang sense it would be a waste of timeIn my understanding - most of the "church" songs that we sing borrows heavily from "worldly" songs. Even some of the hymns are said to have been copied from secular folk songs. Songs themselves have no "moral" value - it's how the listener receives it - how the listener plans to use it that matters. Songs and talents and everything else belongs to God so it won't be a waste if you listen to a good blues song, if you have the right heart - you will see His glory in everything that he has done - including secular music that you know where done well. Of course there are songs that are intended for evil and what not - but what makes them evil is not the song or lyrics themselves it's the heart behind it.
so if i were to listen to jazz or blues or alternative rock would that mean that i am not aligned to what GOd purpose?i'm a guitar player too and i listen to blues and other genres of music heck even classical so that would mean i'm serving two masters?It is not for us to judge if you are serving two masters - it depends on your heart. We can't force Christian teachers to always teach about God's word and not teach about secular things like World History and the like - just as we can't force musicians to just play Christian music. If you are playing in a Praise and Worship setting and your heart is bent on impressing people - that is much worse than playing any secular song. It is not for us to judge.

bro, tip lang as a vocal coach, also listen to secular songs but not with bad content. i recommend you listen to brian mcknight, boys2men, and some artists na favorite mo. kasi their singing can add something you can use to your song leading. marami rin kasi tayo matututunan sa secular, and God allowed us to be with them but NOT TO BE LIKE THEM. alam naman natin ang limitations natin.

In! I just use a multi (Fender Mustang Floor) and I make sure na yung mga patches ay nasa iisang hilera lang para madali magpalit ng tunog while singing (clean, delay, ryhthm, solo). Lahat din ng guitars naka treble bleed para madali bawasan yung gain. Regardig the song selection depende yan sa sitwasyon ng church, sa personal devotion, kung may request ang Pastor.
It's been a while mula nung huli ako makapagworship lead. Ang hirap kasi gampanan yun lalo alam mo sa sarili mo na di ka pa totally okay :-(
