well it's hard to keep up with anybody else lalo na sa mabigat na tugtugan... especially in gigs where the mics don't really help.

How do you utilize them to spice up the groove?
Saang part ng kit naka-mount?
Any tips?
Share them here sana! :-)

peace!

great thread!

When I was still with my former band, I used to have an LP Cyclops mounted tambourine.  It has brass jingles, which produces a brighter sound.  I mounted it over the snare drum, between the hi-hat and the rack tom. We had cover songs na pwedeng lagyan ng tambourine backbeats (examples - Toto's "I'll Be Over You", Gin Blossoms' "As Long As It Matters", etc.).  I can also play the tambourine on the upbeats of grooves, just like what Mike Portnoy did on the last part of the instrumental section of "Caught In A Web".  It can also come in handy for effects during certain musical situations.

Right now, I'm thinking of re-adding a mounted tambourine.  It might come in handy for some r&b/hiphop grooves.  I'm also thinking of adding a cowbell on my set-up.  I want to work on Latin-style grooves with cowbells.  Nakaka-inspire kasi ang mga ginagawa nila Horacio Hernandez, Akira Jimbo, Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, Rodney Holmes, and all those great drummers na gumagamit ng mga cowbells creatively.  Pwede rin ang foot pedal-operated cowbell or wood block.  I'm planning to do these someday.

Im currently using an LP tambourine mounted just below the hat cymbals and two cowbells (meinl & Pearl fusion) mounted on the bass drum (between toms)
I love the sound of the pearl fusion cowbell specially when using nylon tip sticks or a bigger tipped sticks. Parang electronic ang attack nya pero andun pa din yung characteristic ng cowbell sound which reminds me of Herbie Hancocks "Rock It".

Anyway, thanks for the replies!

Keep it up, God bless! :-)
