Title: Please recommend a book on pre-production (recording)
Post by: Ninjek on March 03, 2016, 09:58:00 AM
Hi!

I just want to ask if anyone knows a good book (even ebook) about the preparations needed before recording? Most of the books I've read talk more about the recording itself, and don't delve as much into the pre-prod stuff. I've noticed that I (and my band) tend to commit more mistakes on the preparation side rather than the recording, so I definitely could use more tips on that side.

For example, what kind of track should the drummer listen to? Metronome? Bass guitar? Live bass player? How loud should the instruments be (or gaano kalaki dapat yung itsura ng waveform)?

True, these things are specific enough to be googled, but I was wondering if there is a known book that tackles issues like these?

Thank you!

Mastering Audio by Bob Katz. It's still a recording book but it discusses a lot of things even before you hit the record button.
